Ignition System Upgrades For 2007 Mercury 225 Optimax!

  • In this episode, I installed new spark plugs and tested the ignition coils on the Mercury 225 Optimax. I definitely learned a lot on this project! After testing the six coils, I discovered one of the coils was NOT within “ohm resistance” specifications. This could have caused an intermittent loss of power on that particular cylinder. We’ll see how it runs on the water the next time out and go from there! Stay tuned! Enjoy!

    Can you post the ohm resistance specifications for the driver dual coil which has a 4 prong and 2 prong connection then the coil itself which has the 3 prong connection

      I have an 2004 optimax 200hp with the other style of coil.

    I have a 2004 efi motor with coils that have 5 pins and are identical looking to yours, if they’re all the same, all of my coils fail the pin D test. Do you think they are the same coils and all of mine are actually bad or do you think my coils are different? As far as I know all the two strokes used the same coils

      Are we talking about a Mercury motor? If ALL of your coils fail the pin D test, then I don't see how your motor would run at all. Does the motor run?
