- "Ain't Too Proud to Beg" is a 1966 song and hit single by The Temptations for Motown Records' Gordy label, produced by Norman Whitfield and written by Whitfield and Edward Holland, Jr. The song peaked at number 13 on the Billboard Pop Chart, and was a number-one hit on the Billboard R&B charts for eight non-consecutive weeks.[1] The song's success, in the wake of the relative underperformance of the previous Temptations single, "Get Ready", resulted in Norman Whitfield replacing Smokey Robinson, producer of "Get Ready", as The Temptations' main producer.
He just sang sooooo effortlessly! My grandmama said he was a beast live. Man, I wish I could’ve seen them perform.
I saw them at Leo's Casino in Cleveland 1967 . . . a lifetime memory.
Nahfr I literally listen to him everyday
À
I swear
Saw them, again and again and again.
Ain’t nobody here to see you Otis is playing in my head rent free forever😂❤
Yup!!!
For me anytime I see a Temptations video LMBAO
"Ain't nobody coming to see you Otis!" 🤣🤣 Sorry I had to.
Mann 😂😂

Born in 89 and in 2023 it still slaps 🎶 🕺
yesssss
Yes it really does, even tho this isn't good memories, actually reminds me of how jus like in the movie, David tried takin over, bein 2 egotistical...😂😂😂
This will slap in 3023!
“I’m David Ruffin….and these are the Temptations”🙌🏿😭😂
Everyone needs to listen to these classic songs. Maybe then life will go back to being fun and everyone will chill the fuck out. Kids music nowadays is too full of hate
Exactly
I like the way they hyping eachother up while dancing. They definitely had good times when things were good between them
Exactly…when things were good between them. Which wasn’t often.
One of my favorite songs from The Temptations
David Ruffin was one smooth brother
That ain't no lie.
He was a badass!
One of the top 5 voices EVER!
David had a voice but but his looks and charisma just put him in another tier. People sort of put marvin as the Motown main guy, but i think david was probably as much if not more swooned over
He’s was really talented but wasn’t a good man
This is 2023 And in my opinion it doesn't get any better.REST IN SOUL HEAVEN
I just want to thank the black community for generating so much of our music in this country.
Motown will never die. With all the memories etc. And we won't let it!😢😮😅😊
Ruffin makes it look so effortless .. his range is really mind blowing 🤯
czcams.com/video/QRMT2pTUj2E/video.html
David Ruffin’s voice was so clear, it sounds like he’s just talking but he’s hitting notes ❤️❤️
Temptations have been loved by ME forever. And I "ain't" that old.
Have u seen the movie? David was a dope head, one of them was an alcoholic
@@dianatodd4601 just because he's a dope head doesn't mean his range isn't mind blowing
Rest easy David. You are iconic even now in 2022! You will be admired and missed for years to come. Rest in peace the rest of the temptations. They all hold such a special place in my heart.
Listening 2023 ‼️
Rip David
I couldn't have said it any better! THANKS!

I'm not too proud to beg I'm not too proud to plead don't leave me girl
One of the all time great Motown songs
I love Detroit I have family there, but I realized all the original temptation are from the South that makes me happy
Five guys who were born to sing together.
The camera doesn't quite catch it, but Ruffin does a knee drop at about 1:51 that's as smooth and effortless as ever I've seen.
Jeremiah Horrigan I saw that!!!! That was so smooth!!!! Awww... David ruffin...such a talent
Jeremiah Horrigan Oh, yeah! I love that!!
I caught it!! Sweet!!
Jeremiah Horrigan YAAAAAS! THAT KNEE DROP BY MR. DAVID RUFFIN WAS PHENOMENAL.👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Love this old school choreography
Good god what happened to music nothing compares to this kind of stuff today, pure class RIP GUYS pure legends the lot of you ❤
does not ever get better than this. NEVER
David Ruffin was one the best soul artist. Magnificent voice. RIP.
Yes indeed if he wasn't so super conceited 😂😂😂
@@PrettyNicky50 maybe that was the case. I cannot judge.
Can't nobody take this away from us
He had so much swag wit him!!!
My parents only played 60s and 70s music during the 90s. This song is very nostalgic for me. I literally have tears in my eyes.
Keep hearing nostalgic dnt no wat it actually means tho...never stop learning children!😂
It sounds like you grew up in my house!
Classic 5 era
David, Eddie, Otis, Melvin & Paul

"I know you want to leave me, but I refuse to let you go..."
"OK, I'll just have to get a temporary restraining order, then."
Lol. Its funny but also sad where the world is heading. Thank God for the oldies.
No one can match David Ruffin on any Motown song. What a shame that we lost him. RIP
He died of an overdose of crack cocaine on June 1, 1991. He was 50 years old. He first sought treatment for his drug addiction in 1967. He had a tumultuous relationship with Marvin Gaye's singing partner and good friend, Tammi Terrell. She announced their engagement, but found out he was already married. She ended the relationship after he hit her in the head with a motorcycle helmut.
Michael jackson, Marvin, Gaye. STEVIE wonder would say otherwise. Be a good competition thou
Agreed!
@@michaelwashington4408 Stevie Wonder is not competition for David at all more like Levi Stubbs
@@johnomalley7211 Levi Stubbs was a magnificent singer. I loved the Four Tops!
There would never be another David Ruffin.🤷🏾♂️
I'm 32 years old I wasn't born when this was out but when I first heard this song I falling in love with it plus this one one of the best groups to ever do it 💯💯💯
So ur wat 36 now...I'm 47 yet an still they were cold😂
Fanfecinkintastic vocals...
Eddie voice was breathtaking Paul was mesmerizing Melvin was magical. That David Ruffin just took it to another level this man voice is definitely in a class by himself... this group of 5 was awesome...I wished I was coming up in their era so I could've seen them perform in person.....
+Kim Winston , Battle of the groups, 4 tops, the Gladys Knight and the Pips, Supreme's that list go's on and on of Super Great Groups. During the 50's the Drifter Reigned, theee Group. However the 60's saw something even that would stand even until today as the greatest group of all time, The Temtations. Watching them on TV was magical. In real life changing the color line they are the Muhammad Ali of R&B Groups. Not to mention if you have the right equipment which is not remastered, or have a equalizer, you will listen and heal yourself as we used to do.
+Smart Bullet All Empire Investments Corporation totally agree....
well said young'un!
I saw the original Temptations at Leo's Casino in Cleveland in 1967 with Smokey Robinson and The Miracles, backed up by Jr. Walker and the All-Stars. I will never forget it! The original Temps with Eddie Kendrick and David Ruffin were THE BEST!
Kim Winston ok
One of my favorite songs 💞
Classic temptations, this is real music
Miley Cyrus, Justin Bieber, RIHANNA, Little Mix, Kayne, All hip hop, and most new country are fake as hell.
Ian Jackson Name just one that can play ANY instrument...........
It's all sampling.... = Fake.
Homegrown Television preach dude
I know right
@@FATRAT1973 you can love a lot of new stuff and old at the same time though
Plus this is the best state of indie music ever since anyone can get popular enough to make a carrer out of it on the internet. So we see so many new musicians and bands in every style imaginable doing amazing stuff.
The EMPERORS OF SOUL. Epitome of Motown Class and style.
Born 77 these dudes are the absolute best
It's 2023 and it's still AINT NOBODY COMING TO SEE YOU OTIS! RIP David. You were truly one of a kind. Continue to rest in peace brother.
David Ruffin's hand gestures; then doing the kneedrop at around 1:49...that was badazz. The original Temps lineup will always be the ONE.
You know he got that from Jackie wilson I never saw any evidence just my opinion!
@@masonmalone4853 That doesn't surprise me at all. Much like Sam Cooke, Jackie Wilson's singing and stage presence influenced generations of future Soul Singers. Respect and RIP.
I keep listening to this song and honestly, no one is smoother than David Ruffin.
The best of Motown
How could a woman even leave this man. Amazing. I’m 28. Wish I was born in the 50s 🥲
2019? Anyone? 😍😍
Got me thinking about that girl
Definitely, especially after just watching the show on Broadway 🎭
still here
Yes
Monica Rivera lol facts and I’m a 90s baby 🤣🤣🤣
my grandma love these men lmfao i’m screaming, i was born in 2002 she got me hooked to all they songs!
lol. I was born in late 2001 and grew up on these types of songs. My parents were born in the 60s, so they grew up on these songs and were still playing them in my lifetime
GREAT MUSIC EAS MADE BACK IN THOSE DAYS.
There’s only one David Ruffin. Flawed as a Gentleman, but a Saint as a singer.
Great song by a great group!
One of the very best things on youtube. David Ruffin's unique greatness shines forth so perfectly.
I met David Ruffin jr today I was star struck he look just like him and he was so downtown earth and he sings like his dad wow !!!!
I'm 28 years old but I love old school music thts when music was real
The temps wasn’t simps they were pimps 💯
Still a hit 2023
David should have been able to rule the world with that voice and charisma.
czcams.com/video/QRMT2pTUj2E/video.html
They still died to young, just glad they came up during my childhood. That's when the singers sing and musician played their instruments.
Same here...our generation was so lucky to have such good music decade after decade
Amen
Was born in 1999, hard to find good traditional music this generation
Hurts to be born in 2006 growing up with such meaningless songs
@@evanw2195 I was born in 2000
Yes, great then, great now. Great forever.
I’m 22.
I love this song from Japan.
50+ years later and I still get goose bumps...an era of music that will exist forever...Thank You Temptations and thank you Motown...
Motown was the dopest record company EVER!!!❤
i know they were a great talent, all of them, but David Ruffin really takes the cake... not only was he extremely gifted, but he was just the epitome of cool. this is my favorite temptations song.
MINE ALSO NAMEZ RICH.B.G.THA3RD
Beauty for ashes, Oh-oh the memories of this song........ My Favorite Also.. . For Life!
They were all great singers. Sad they died young.
As I listened to this song I came to beg to my crush 'cause she left me for some too bit punk, and I'm still crying but "I'm not ashamed to plead to you babe", 'cause I love you! 😢🤡💔💘🖤🔥
This never gets old.
Thank god for soul ❤️
Happy Heavenly 80th birthday Late David Ruffin
This whole group was sharp as a pin and smooth as butter. There aren't many songs about begging women to stay these days😢.
Damn I think David Ruffin is about the smoothest dude I've ever seen in my life. As an entertainer it almost pains me to say that I have absolutely no idea how this guy is doing what he is doing on that stage. He's hardly even doing anything and at the same time he's doing everything! And then can sing like that! Dude is an enigma. With that style he's doing I don't know who could touch him.
Hey man the dance was smooth I have to say it was nice check it out at 1:35
Roq, I have to agree; maybe because Ain't To Proud To Beg is my life long Temp song.
No one could touch David Ruffin then, and still today, no one ever has. David Ruffin, was definitely in a Class All By Himself. Still is.
I feel you there...there is only one David ruffin!!!!! But if I may make a suggestion......try some hardcore drugs and maybe you will pull it off too
@@robingar4973 Rob Ingar, David Ruffin was not in his early career using, as you say, hardcore drugs. David Ruffin drugs or no drug use, was a extremely, talented man. His performances and his soulful, voice was a natural. He was a performer, he could sing and he had smooth moves. The man was all that. I don't define him by his drug use. I defined this very talented man strictly by his natural raw soulful, talent. Can you do what he did? It wasn't because of his drug use or lack there of,. David Ruffin, Rob, had a Gift, and it was very obvious
David Ruffins voice is unreal !!! Goose bumps for days ! Man that guy was cool 😎
Yea, cool and egotistical...yo again, he tried ruinin the group smdh...how was that unreal??
They all look so lit
Marc Gillis They were!
David Ruffin His Voice Just Sends Chills Down My Spine I Only Wished He Was Still Here 🙏 RIP and Eddie, Paul, Mel 💙💙💙💙💙
50 years later One of a kind. Still listening July 2020💯💯💯
I'm David Ruffin, and these are The Temptations! Lmao
My favorite line🤣🤣
The Loner
He thought he was bigger than the group
@@COMPACTTVHD Uh, I don't see it. Bigger than the group is when you achieve sustained success after leaving said group (Diana Ross, Beyonce). Ruffin only had Walk away from love as a major hit after leaving the Temps.
Oldies are the best,agree folks.Black life's matter,they got soul.
We are so lucky too have music at our finger tips
One of the GREATEST GROUPS IN ROCK AND ROLL HISTORY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
this is not rock and roll
David Ruffin's was such a great singer that his singing greatly overshadowed his showmanship. He was a one-man show and that is a testament to his enormous talent because Paul and Eddie were also great. To sum it up, the original 5 were a match made in heaven and were born to perform together.
So very well said..
There the Classic five, not the original five. David Ruffin was not an original member. He replaced Al.
Temptations Forever
I love these guys and music still HOT EVEN TODAY LOVE YOU GUYS FOREVER
best rock and roll song ever!!
David Ruffin was the best lead singer for the group.
Melvin was the best backup
His brother was phenomenal as well.
I dunno man, Eddie Kendricks was a damn good lead singer as well
Agree with that
@@jasonfournier1463 right about that but in my opinion i think they were all good
The GREAT David Ruffin....mayyyyyyne....🔥🔥🔥R.I.P good brother.
The choreography is sick
Paul's choreography and dancing were matchless! Get it, Paul ❤️
He was 😎
Fantastic song and fantastic performance by David Ruffin. So much style and stage presence. Just love the moves! Great memories.
Yea but he tried takin over the whole crew...sorta like Bobby brown and lots of other artists back then...pipe dwn, we all cnt b in the lime lights!!😂😂😂
When I was in Vietnam .. Circa, 1968 and 1969 this group was a staple at our clubs in Da Nang and Chu Lai.... and there
weren't many black folks in those clubs.... mostly Vietnamese and White Folks enjoying some of the greatest music of
our time ... and we knew it.
Mark
They had soo much fun together remember the classic 5 1963- 1967 they had fun it wasn't all bad
David was a Baaaaad man! That southern charm just drove women crazy!😊
David Ruffin was just so smooth 😘
Ow man this never gets old.... who listening to this in 2021
This is part of the sound track of my life I was 16 in 1966 ,
Every time I watch this clip I wonder what David is saying during those synchronized arm punches. Trying to read his lips, I pretty sure he says something about being "fast." And, the way he hits that double knee drop afterward, I imagine he included a "watch this" 🤣... Oh, to be a fly on the curtain during this performance 😊
I'll be covering this tune in a few nursing homes soon. It is a great joy to sing the Temptations' songs and to see the overwhelmingly positive response to them from audiences.
Way back in the early 70s I went with some mates to Gt Yarmouth and met a couple of girls from Burnley, we got talking about music and all they kept talking about was the Temptations and a record called Ain't to proud to beg. We had never heard of it ! Eventually found it and were completely blown away, it was absolutely unbelievably brilliant, and have loved it ever since ! Great memories and no doubt a Timeless Classic!!
I wasnt even born yet and this song is fire!!
This song always reminds me of the scene where Uncle Phil is dancing to it in the living room 🤧 rip 🙏
I just watched that episode! It’s what led me to watch this on CZcams 🤣🤣
I just watched a clip of that so I came in search for the song 😆
Amazing Track.... Everything About it ... Vocals, message, musicality... They don't make em like this anymore.... dang near perfect! TIMELESS TRACK!
Yes the temptations dad said, we're pretty awesome 😂
Just thought of this song because it is a miracle to love another person and to need to be with that person forever.
06/01/20 marks 29 years we lost David Ruffin RIP!!!!!!!!
🤯that man was so damn smooth, even his hand movements
One of my favorite songs of all time.
Now I am curious. What is your other favorite?
Im so blessed God seen it fit to let be born in 1974 I can still feel the soul from back then Much love from Detroit 🙏🏽🙏🏽🤎🤎🤎🤎
