I came here because of Steve Harley's passing today. R.I.P.
RIP Steve Harley - hope you guys play a tribute… I’ll be listening. 🎤🎸🥁🎹
R.I.P to Steve Harley. The boys made a remarkable cover and tribute to this awesome song.
Make Me Smile (Come Up & See Me) - this has to be Duran's best ever B-side! Bought the hit single (The Reflex) back in the days of vinyl records and it was the first time I ever found myself playing the B-side as much as the A-side! I'm 64 now and still a Durannie to this day. Have seen them live a few times -:the first time was at The Queen's Hall in Leeds in 1978, then at Leeds Direct Arena during the Paper Gods tour and again at Leeds Direct Arena in 2023. They never fail to turn in a great perfotmance. Duran have grown musically and I've grown with them❤
Agree about this being the best B-side, but I did like the instrumental version of A View to a Kill :-)
Me the same. Kind regards from Germany
This will go down as one of Andy’s finest performances!
One of many fine performances
Andy Taylor is and always has been amazing.
Honestly !! It gives me chills when I hear him play the guitar on this song..
Isn't this a very young Simon, and not Andy? Please educate me, thanks!!
@@jfdetorresAll references to Andy's guitar-playing dude...
Been a Duranie since I was 12 yrs. old. I'll be 49 yrs. old in August. I remember hearing this song for the first time in my bedroom on the radio. I had my blanke cassette tape ready to record at all times. I look back and realize how magical these times were for me. God I LOVE Duran Duran and will ALWAYS be am original duranie❤🤗🌻
I know I am kinda off topic but does anyone know a good site to stream newly released series online?
@Musa Abel flixportal xD
@Damian Johnny Thank you, signed up and it seems to work =) I really appreciate it !!
@Musa Abel Happy to help xD
@Niamh Baker Do try to catch the film Sing Blue Silver. Their tour of America. It’s amazing. I was your age in the 80’s when I became a Duranie! This video is a special gem of Simon being vulnerable! He will get over this girl and he will lead the biggest band in the world at the time! Enjoy sweet girl!
when they did their last show of this tour in birmingham, they brought Steve Harley up on stage with them to perform this. Such great memories of being a young school kid, skipping school to spend all day in Birmingham then going to see them in the evening. I wasn't a mad duranie, but loved the atmosphere of those concerts they did in the odeons before they went on to the larger arenas. Good times x
Fantastic.
John Taylor's bass absolutely defines this version. Listen when the music kicks in after the 1st verse. Solid as a rock!
Utterly underrated
Love John. His autobiography is brilliant.
Simon's voice and Andy's guitars nailed it 👌 👏!!!
Yes & I love Andy’s backing vocals!
This cover is hands down THE BEST cover of this song!!! Every other artist just did the tempo and arrangement that Steve Harley created. Duran made it theirs!!!! Love them so much!!!!! Such creative fantastic musicians!!! So underrated for so long!! There will NEVER be another band like them!!! So glad they’re being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame!!! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟❤❤❤❤❤

LOVING THIS...................
Oh wait, the version of the Wedding Present from 1991 (?) is different to the original as it is speed factor 2 :-))
@@andreeopthof376 WOW..............
Hammersmith Odean was such a grwat gig. No back-up singers other than John and Andy. No special effects. Just a raw DD performance. ❤💙🖤🩵💛
Guys u must all agree that this has to be one of the best cover version of Cockney Rebel Steve Harley Make me smile. I grew up listening to Duran Duran all though the 80’s
Tbh, the Duran Duran B-sides were often better for me than the singles they released to the radio play. What am I talking about? Faith In This Colour; Fame [cover]; Faster Than Light; Khanada; Late Bar, Like An Angel; Make Me Smile...some of the best stuff the made in the early days!!!
Absolutely agree, the B-sides you've listed were incredible, especially Like an angel, Late Bar and the haunting Khanada from Careless Memories
Don't forget Secret October! They did an amazing live version of this in the late '90s early 00's.
Omg Late Bar!!! I completely forgot about that song! I used to LOVE it thank you! Secret October too..what memories!!
"we need you" and "all i need to know" too
I'm a big Steve Harley fan and opened this with a bit of dread but it's brilliant.
Sending all the love & prayers on Planet Earth 🌍 to Andy Taylor - Rock n Roll Star Forever
Yeah, I'm not saving a prayer till the morning after either. Hope you are out of it soon Andy! ❤❤❤
I was at LAX at a restaurant when Simon and Nick walked by. I couldn't believe my eyes! I ran after then, touched Simon on the arm and said "you're Simon". He took off his sunglasses, twirled them, smiled and said "and you're dimples". I couldn't believe Simon gave me a pet name off the cuff. I just stood there and said "yes". 😂
that is AWESOMME, in other words, he was just as you'd hoped he would be, classic Simon :)
A great version of this song Duran put their own stamp on it making it really special
Nick is the master of the keyboards / Synthesizers!
This song proves how good these guys are even in the early days. The fact that Simon started singing with a cold start and in the correct key proves real talent
This is the band at their peak. What a brilliant, brilliant cover. RIP Steve Harley
Andy's solo!
Imduct this band to the Hall of Fame ASAP!
Ask and ye shall be granted - 3 years later!
🎉🎉🎉 Duran Duran release this track as a a side single in the honour of Steve Harley who as sadly passed away rip god bless him release it as a original version single could made Duran Duran a No1 mash single as all Duranies luv it 🎉🎉🎉
They have done many very respectable covers through the years. This one is certainly a standout!
Imagine that. They came out with their first single in 1981 and by this time in 1982, they were aready a massive band globally. Thats how fast they became such a success! Amazing!
I remember having this as a single. I would listen to it in my basement and when Andy's guitar kicked in, I would blast it. So good.
I still do the same thing today 💗💗
I BUMP but I mean REALLY bump Andy’s part in my truck 😂
@@melissawise1972 me, too!
they were a killer band. Still are!! That live sound esp the guitar is ´KING MENTAL
Remember this like it was yesterday, those days were magical, every morning a new opportunity and anything was possible. Probably because I was a teenager!! Haha!
80s girls were so beautiful , where did youth go? R.I.P. Steve Harley what a gem this song is
Such a powerful badass cover! This is by far the best and the most unique cover of Steve Harley's song. Love this raw guitar sound and bass. That's Duran how I prefer the most.
Probably my favorite B-side and here's me, excited as hell to see THERE IS A VIDEO
Just saw them live in 2022 and they’re still electrifying. But this song takes me so far back. We were right to be so obsessed with them then; they were (and are) amazing. 💕
It's phenomenal
totally agree 😊
Love this song ... Duran Duran do it so well & that's what sets them apart from the rest❤️❤️❤️
they broke the ceiling at the Rum Rummer Club In Birmingham and made them a 40 year superstars. Love them them!! ❤❤❤❤👍👍👍👍🤣🤣💋💋👍👍👍
As always my favourite band of all the time...
They're my second favorite band, right behind the Beatles.
My favorite band, no contest.
@@sjdrifter72same here. First the Fab four, then the Fab five
Absolutely stunning.....Simons voice is at its best and the bass guitar is superb. .....the band at their very best. Lindylou.
Still gives me chills watching this after all this time 💎💜
same here! it's got something 🥰❤️
The girl in the audience triple whooping at 2:25 has been burned into my brain since childhood. She's seriously my fave moment of the song. 💗
My first live gig lucky me 😊☺️
one and only ,Mr.Andy Taylor on guitar!
Brilliant performance
Wow. What a blast from the past. I haven't heard this in probably 30 years. Great song and great video. #duranie4ever
Will always love the original, but I'm more than happy with this version too, very good indeed.
I was very sad to hear of Steve Harley's passing, R I P Steve.
That intro still gives me goosebumps after all these years. Ta for uploading. (Or whatever the appropriate term is)
yes!!! same
In case anyone's curious, the kanji on Simon's shirt is 拳, meaning "fist".
To put that in perspective, imagine seeing a Japanese or Chinese group in concert and their lead singer is wearing a t-shirt that just has the English word "FIST" on the front of it. XD
Thanks for letting us know.
It not being an american shirt, means it isn't anything vulgar, I'm sure.
I don't think he'd mean anything by it even so.
Cuz this song is a punch to the ❤
I've just seen your comment, after spending 10 minutes to figure it out by myself.
Maybe it's just the 拳 in じゃん拳ぽん 😉
God bless and prays for Andy Taylor and his battle with cancer. I pray for him he is battling a death killing cancer and Pray for Andy
Andy is smoking with that guitar of his! Wow!!
The way Simon sings "smile" slowly gives me goosebumps... also, Nick'es keyboards. RIP Steve Harley, thank you for this beautiful song.
PS - Of course, how gorgeous Simon looks here doesn't hurt... ;)
THE "FAB FIVE" AT THEIR MOST FABULOUS!!! Yes...I so remember the first time seeing this air on TV in the US and not knowing this song...but loving it!!! I later learned (as all good Duranies do) that is was a cover song originally done by Cockney Rebel. God...so much fun in the 80's!!! Thanks for the great memories guys!!! Still a huge fan over 35+ years now!! Love you💋"RHO"
YES YES, SAME! I saw this concert late night I believe it was a Saturday night.. On mtv. and I knew EVERY song.. but when I heard this.. I was upset that there was a song I didn't know!!! And like yourself, I genuinely instantly loved it!
Dearest Duran Duran, Thank you soooo MUCH for all the JOY throughout the Years!
🌟💖🌟🌹🌹🌹🌹💋🎶💚🎶
I think I've been looking for this version ever since I saw this back in the early-80's! Thanks for sharing...(12/19)
One of my favorite live concerts from Duran Duran.
This is the sound I love from them, not electronic sounds and effects like in the last album.
Hi from Portugal!!
My thoughts also! It’s great to hear some guitars, and not just synthesisers.
I listen to Dd since early 80s. Duran duran are always the best! Any time… with older or newer songs. 💝💝💝
That's so powerful!! And they were just 20!!!!! I love DD
Its great to see the real concert, when you for decades just now the Audio of this song!!
These guys were my first concert in 1982, barely 13 years old! Love that they still sing this at their shows x
This is the only song I ever heard from Duran Duran that I like. When I hunted it down, I couldn't believe it was them.👍
Andy Tayler - "Thunder" one the best LP's ever.👍
You've done it all
You've broken every code
And pulled the rebel to the floor
You spoiled the game
No matter what you say
For only metal, what a bore
Blue eyes, blue eyes
How come you tell so many lies?
Come up and see me, make me smile
Or do what you want, running wild
There's nothing left
All gone and run away
Maybe you'll tarry for a while
It's just a test
A game for us to play
Win or lose, it's hard to smile
Resist, resist
It's from yourself you have to hide, oh
Come up and see me to make me smile
Oh, or do what you want, running wild
There ain't no more
You've taken everything
From my belief in Mother Earth
Can you ignore
My faith in everything?
'Cause I know what faith is and what it's worth
Away, away
And don't say maybe you'll try
Oh, to come up and see me, to make me smile
Or do what you want, just running wild
Ooh, la la la
Ooh, la la la
Ooh
Come up and see me, make me smile
Or do what you want, running wild
Ooh, la la la
Ooh, la la la
Ooh
Come up and see me to make me smile
Wow, didn´t know they did a cover of this gem from Steve Harley back in the days... A very good cover too...
Their Thank-you album is ALL cover 🎵 songs, you should check it out.
And the video for "Perfect Day."
I hate to spoil the party but Mr Harley and Cockney Rebel's original is simply different class from this nonsense. Sorry to Duran Duran fanatics but listen to Harley singing it live and you will perhaps agree......
Duran Duran forever.
I think I first saw this at a friend's house, I remember
the anticipation before the show starting.
And it didn't disspapoint!
Dang, John is so adorable!
I think fell in love with him the first time I saw this!
Oh yes!! I definitely fell in love with him the first time I saw this!! That mouth of his and him in that hat!! So freakin adorable and sexy!!! Still makes my heart flutter!!😊😍❤️❤️❤️

That's true.
That's why he got those three huge sacks of love letters his parents stowed in the garage, back in the day.
He mentions those letters in his book.
Most of my duranie friends liked him the best out of the five.
I liked Simon, John, and Nick always, but for realities sake, especially these days, I wish John could truly be my boyfriend!
Or better yet, my husband!
I'm truly in love with this man, as I've been watching again all day, lately.
Dang John, why did you have to go and get married, again?
You heartbreaker! Lucky, Gela! 😭
@@resa.walters I know. But it looks like they're really in love more than 20 years. He's lucky too.
@@JOHNNYSGIRL1960 Yeah, true. I somehow really like her.
She must be really good to him, they seem to complement each other so well.
Who couldn't be still so in love with him, he's facinating and the sexiest man ever.
Love this song so much, growing up in the 80s this band gave me so much happiness for many reasons 💗

NOT ONLY....
After all these years, the girl at 5:03 still makes me go aaah
She's a JT adorer

Great cover and brilliant guitar solo. Love these guys and they've done credit to Steve and this awesome anthem.
One of my fave Duran songs. Been a fan since '82 at 11 y/o. This song 🎵 is actually an unofficial cover of somebody's.
Eh, yeah we know. It was a huge number one hit for Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel in 1979, lol.
@@droge192 Any remake of anybody hit is much better because of advancements in technology that improve sound. So, I'd wager that the DD cover sounds a lot better than the original.
@@droge192 1975 actually lol :)
@@lisat.7310 Hmm, I actually like the original version much better.
@@GravityBar231 Well, I don't. It's my opinion that, with the advances in sound with more & better instruments applied that modern sounds are richer & more sophisticated.
Sensacional o solo de guitarra do Andy Taylor 👏🏾👏🏾
love this song and the guys that wrote it Steve Harley and Cockney Rebel its a lovely song and Cheers to all that love it also!!
the essence of the 80s
B side of the Reflex single, loved it then, love it now
When the band kicks in at 2:32, I'm a happy young teenager jumping around again!!!
40++ years..... DREAMLAND! x
Had to come here due to Steve Harleys passing, but why the Duranies, it's because they blew me away with this cover, I bought The Reflex single in 84 purely for this cover
'You've done it all"
Andy's guitar sound was really excellent
Nope ,he was their weak point
I have to disagree and I know when a guitarist sounds good believe me
yes it was!
Andy is a great guitarist and gave them an edge they haven't really found without him.
George: Even in how you phrased it, yours is a personal, biased based comment rather than an objective musical one. The guitar In this performance is awesome. All of the guys in Duran have said many times over the years that Andy was the guy with the musical ability, especially at that stage of their career. The others were giving it 100% but with limited technical ability. I miss the edge his guitar playing gave their music. Their music these days is too polished (and programmed). They're best with rough edges IMO.
So glad this is now on Spotify!!
Rip Steve Harley 😢
Andy was jamming so underrated
yes....great stuff
Duran Duran
unicos e irrepetibles ❤️
I love this song..so catchy and upbeat..makes you want to move
I’ve never seen this before…my fav song
Saya menjadi penggemar DURAN DURAN sejak tahun 1984.
