Same goes for a good analogue meter , if you know how to use it. That needle movement doesn't lie. As far as a digital volt meter , anyone starting out ought to learn on a non auto ranging & then , once comfortable move to the auto range. I have an older style clip on analog ammeter in my possession still. The gee whiz gear is great but i believe it can make one prone to jumping to conclusions & be led astray in the basics logic of fault finding. I appreciate the approach Scanner Danner, Joe take & show you multiple ways to skin the cat to ensure you understand exactly how the particular circuit & components work & the variations the various manufacturers use. I was going to buy the P.Probe 4 , & i still may but I'm likely going to buy the 3 master kit with the 3000 tracer & invest in an AES Wave master probe kit & an affordable one / two channel scope & an Amp Hound. From what I've seen the Load Pro has it's place & i could add that to the list & still be under the price of the fancy overpriced Strap On proboscis.
Those harnesses and the insulation that they used on Chryslers has been a big problem. Testlight for the win!!! Thank u Keith for our ongoing education!!
I can remember for years all I needed was vac. Gauge, timing light, test light,DWELL METER that's right that far back lol. But now maximize use of your test tools is a must plus diverse collection of tools is where we find our selves 😳
Plain Jane test light found a fault on an F250 7.3 today, 900 bucks on towing from mid-West Australia, an injector module and a PCM... it was the most expensive 40 Amp injector module power relay I have ever fitted to a vehicle.... test, don't guess!
Thank you for the reminder. I will make it a point to go visit them next week . IPA 9001 was the tool number . The newest version is still under development
Great video, I wonder if you have to hit the C to clear the min/max very strange that the min/max was not responding. I don't have this model I have the power probe 4 and the glitch capture rate on the min/max feature is around the 200 microseconds. It will catch glitches in the min/max feature that can happen in thousands of a second. I agree that every tool has its place and I'm with you that a test light can be an invaluable tool. I also like to use the power probe screaming continuity tester as it give a loud auditable sound to inform me of the glitch or shorts to ground. Anyways cheers and stay safe out there.
Test light works a control (of power) problem the best. It has for me in the past. Unless you've seen it before, that problem you had there can be real difficult! Nice Job!
Great video thank you sure every tool has its place and it’s not the tool that fixes the problems it’s the person that uses correct tool to fix the problems can have most expensive tool and still cheap simple test light will be a winner when used as needed and when needed Best wishes from 🇬🇧
I have that tool (as well as a power probe) and never gave delay much thought. This handy tip will probably save me some serious headaches in the future. Thanks a bunch Keith for pointing that out.
Awesome as always!!!! I know I've replaced some of those harnesses (don't recall the year range) because of hanging out over the exhaust manifold band getting melted.....
A diagnostic guru. I thank you for your time explaining all these little things. Now I have to go find my test light. I bet my wife sold it at her garage sale.
Great tip Keith! I'm guessing power probe would do the same. The test light is the best tool on those wiring harness wiggles. Man i feel like you just make me better every day! Thank you!
seems to me, it reacted faster (by watching it in other videos) nothing will be your eye and a low current test light, except for an oscilloscope or logic probe! speaking of logic probe, do either of the tools have a "logic probe" with beep setting, that should put them into hyper scream mode
Test light is the easiest and quickest down and dirty thing to use. After some wiggle wiggle then it’s good to move on like you said. I wonder how that compares to the power probe
No clue , but honestly not worried about it 🙂. I just put out what I can when I can to help everyone along the way . I guess if I took the time to make them pretty and put some effort into it the channel would grow. But I'm happy with the awesome subscribers that I have already .
Sometimes people just want entertainment, the interest in real technical into is unfortunately never as high. All these little bits are vital, and shows how having a box full of high end tools is no good if you use it in the wrong situation... This is a perfect example, many tools are slow to beep for continuity like this, but this is bad!
Great video thanks brother. Great review on the tool. Like the Power Probe it has its place. Keep up the great work see you in the next video thanks again brother
agreed, I finally sold mine after trying really hard to like it.So much of my testing was just that .Trying to catch a quick pulse. easy on a scope which I now have but is not portable enough.I agree it is a great tool with lots of uses but I went back to a Fluke multimeter as that reacts quicker and is just as small and stays out of the way. I am usually jammed under a dash not under the hood so even my scope with a tablet display can be to big. The multimeter is fast to set up and just works.
Man id love to cuise down from utica and go with u for a day or 2 and just watch u work. Your amazing at getting these vehicles to talk to u man. Just love how u make it seem so easy.
I appreciate it man. Ive only been to nyc 1 time years ago ive always wanted to go again more importantly id love to come amd try to absorb as much as i can from your techniques. I will message u and maybe we can set something up. It would be a dream come true for me man and your only like 3 hours from me. Im actually east of utica more towards amsterdam ny
There must be a reason for that delay. To identify a stable ground maybe? There is no perfect tool fit for every situation. That's the reason we buy so many lol. As long as the tools you purchase do a specific job well then you haven't wasted your money.
That’s an awful latch response for the buzzer on that snap on probe. I’d be curious to see it tested like some CZcamsrs test multimeter continuity modes (EEVBlog I know does this on his multimeter test videos). i.e. striking one lead to another like your dragging a piece of steel across flint trying to make fire. Except in this case, tapping the probe to ground or power.
I think that tool is faster on the ohms setting. I have one but have never tried it like that, will have to and see what happens. i know one of my other meters that lights up on ohms is pretty dang fast. Thanks for the info.
Obviously the snap on is designed for specific test and obviously that kind of intermittent short isn’t one of them. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and wisdom to bad there isn’t one tool for electrical and one for reading codes and one wrench that fits every nut and bolt.........
I agree it has its place. Luckily I got it on sale. I mostly use when I need power for something in the vehicle or towards the rear. Like a questionable window regulator or aomething.
Had a similar problem with a 2010 town country. The last coil I think it was 3 and 4 was dead. I had no ground control on the coil it turn out to be that connector you were holding was full of moisture and rotted out the pin. Nice review on the tester by the way I was thinking of getting one but not anymore!!!
Wasn't he losing #3 long before smoking the coil or did he just keep driving with two dead holes. That probe, like the newer Power Probes, seems too gadgetty for me. It seems too easy to blow a driver or something by hitting the wrong button. I already blow enough fuses on my VOM forgetting to switch the leads back to the right hole.
Seems like every Chrysler vehicle that I see that is older than 5 years old is missing half the wire loom in the engine compartment. They seemed to have used the cheapest possible loom they could find and it just falls apart when it gets hot.

THANKS FOR THE VIDEO , I HAVE FOUND THE QUICKEST DIGITAL TESTER TO BE THE SNAP-ON VANTAGE AND MY BE BY NOW POWER-PROBE COULD HAVE MADE A POWER-PROBE WITH INTERNALS CAPABLE OF MATCHING AT LEAST THE ORIGINAL SNAP-ON VANTAGE COULD YOU IMAGINE !
New sub to your channel love the content so far. I like to think I align with your thought process just like in this video, I find a lot of people that under estimate the usefulness of some basic tools like an actual test light with a bulb. Also actually loading circuits to test them a lot of times a test light isn’t even enough I’m currently using a drill motor and switch out of a cordless drill to load circuits the variable speed switch allows me to apply a veritable load on the circuit. When you’re poor you find available alternatives to make tools out of. 👍
Keith, that thing is the goofiest looking probe I ever seen and now it's shown to be unreliable. Sounds like it has a garbage can with it's name on it waiting for it ! LOL ! A side from bringing a good ground and a good bat + around, under, and behind the vehicle my power probe is no match with my test light !
Power Probe is bad enough but a Snap On branded tool made by Power Probe is the worst. The tools do not make the craftsman! Keep it simple and use the most basic tool that will accomplish the desired result.
Just goes back to knowing the limitations of your tool... 👍👍
There is no replacement for incandescent...or something like that.
Agreed Joe! It's still my go to tool.

Best part of the video "You are going to heard beeping if you don't like it don't watch" 👍👍👍👍👍
I have a little beeper i cut out of a trailer harness once. It beeps straight away and is perfect for these jobs.
Wait'll you see what I built and forgot to bring today 😜
yeah those work great also :)
I think the power probe 4 has the same issue. It reacts real slow, time to go back to the 3! Lol. Nice video yet again!
It does indeed , I tested that yesterday to be sure
scope on a rope for the win, gota love analog!! thanks for sharing.
Powers and Grounds, test light all day long! Great demo, Keith! Now what about the LoadPro? Did you use that to keep the van from rolling away? hahaha
This video is for people that say a scope on a rope is no good. Snap on needs to work on the reaction time of that tool.
almost the greatest invention since sliced bread, the test light. Thanks Keith

You must be around my area then Dylan. Head down to Staten Island. Don't be surprised if you get put to work though, not just get to watch.

I think they learned from ford......
Sure the power probe would have identified that its grounding as u wiggle it. Ground sound or voltage change.
I may just put that to the test. What is the voltage drop necessary for power probe to see ground ?

What, pray tell, is your favorite Incandescent Test Light? what does The New Level Auto Test Light Arsenal look like?
... I'm a simple man learning and piecing together a Diagnostics Kit.
My favorite test light started off as a simple Harbor freight 4 dollar test light. Pulls 260ma . I bought another and used a 870ma bulb.
Great advice! Thanks is for taking the time and sharing Keith.
Yes it is super slow to respond. I have one of those. That button, bottom center will turn off the beeeeeeep sound. 🤣
Somebody let the magic smoke out of that coil pack.

Good morning Keith. Thanks!
And how many $100s does the snap-on sell for?
Honestly not sure , I bought it for 100 bucks off a tech who gave up on it . Still has 100 worth of value for other things I think
i think it's 3 something off the truck, that may be on sale.
Great job again like always
Chrysler used the worst the insulation ever then. That stuff would deteriorate and turn to gum for no good reason.
Did Volvo ever own Chrysler? Maybe they gave Chrysler a deal on a bunch of automotive wire :)

The pulsar tool you've used though... seems like an awesome tool. I can't find one though :(
Simple but carries a critical point
That's the cleanest test light i ever seen lol
I buy them by the case and hand them out to new techs in shops 🙂👍
My power probe hooks lags like that too
I wonder if Powerprobe's response time is quicker
This had to be running like pooh, backfiring, pinging, setting coil driver codes?
Never even attempted to run it once I saw the coil condition . And now its monsoon weather here again .
Awesome Keith
