I’m an Indian and I have been following Pakistani domestic affairs and history for over a decade now. The constitutional questions particularly interest me because I’m also a practising lawyer. Salman Akram Raja is one of my favourite lawyers in Pakistan. I’ve greatly enjoyed all your content. Thanks. ❤

Delighted listening to Salman Akram Raja. Happy to see there are people like him in the system who keep their head in the game without being distracted by emotions. "Mistake of someone doesn't give you right to do wrong as well". I hope Shehzad will keep this in mind next time making a falacy arguement.

Despite the podcast's intellectual content and Mr. Salman's insightful information about our judicial system, one notable observation is that the host consistently centers most questions around Imran Khan. This approach seems to paint a picture as if Imran Khan is solely responsible for all wrongdoing and he is corrupt while other leaders are portrayed as innocent and they had done nothing.

Few well educated in Pakistan . But they are sidelined. Unless have political backing. Rich have it. Most Pakistanis talk like Lucknowi not punjabis. They are ashamed of punjabi. They have recreated Lucknow in lahore. Sad. Lahore was amritsar like. Its become a UP town . Oversea Pakistanis are shocked to hear indian punjabis fluent confident punjabi. They start crying. They realise its been ages since they spoke their own language. They have tears in their eyes, they realise they killed their language, identity. Its not an exaggeration. They feel punjabi but they cant own punjabi language. Dance, food culture of Punjab has been suppressed .

Keshvanand Bharti Vs. Union of India is a landmark judgement, heard by the largest constitutional bench of 13-judge, it came during a time when there was a tussle going on between Indian Parliament, led by the then Prime Minister of India Indira Gandhi, who made many significant changes in the constitution, and Supreme Court. There are many series of judgements before the Keshvananda Judgement, where Parliament would amend the constitution then Supreme Court would struck down the said amendment citing the unconstitutionality of the amendment. Finally, in the Keshvananda case Supreme Court said to the Parliament cool bro make as many changes as you can but dare not touch the Basic Structure of the constitution. Though Supreme Court didn't define what exactly Basic Structure is but through the precedents and various case laws it is not a settled position that Secularism, Parliamentary System, Federalism etc are Basic Structure. If Parliament ever passes any such law which challenges the Basic Structure, it will be held unconstitutional.

A very interesting overview of Pakistan’s legal system by Salman Akram Raja, one of Pakistan’s leading lawyers today. He covers a wide range of issues, including the structure of the judiciary, the elevation to the superior courts and the formation of benches, the overly intrusive role of the establishment, the bad judgements as a result to the intrusion, as well as some biased benches, and yet his belief that we must accept the SC judgements and must not be selective in doing so, as otherwise it can only lead to the complete breakdown of order.
*Equally impressive are the quality of questions raised by Shehzad Ghias Shaikh, the podcast host, he has done excellent homework before hosting this talk*. Something he always does before his podcasts on a variety of subjects. *Pakistan’s hope of breaking out of our dismal situation, is our youth like him*.

    Solid analysis overall
View on politicians talking about “Hindu rashtra” being prevented by basic structure is wrong.
Indian fundamental rights have right to freedom of religion. Even if secular word is removed from preamble (which was any ways added by Indira Gandhi in emergency) - that changes nothing
Most intelligent / educated BJP leaders know that the constitution has secularism so strongly baked in - no one can even think of changing it.
Changing fundamental rights needs 2/3 majority in both houses individually. And second house is basically proportionate to population representatives of state legislatures.
So only if a party wins overwhelming majority across a lot of elections at all levels, only then it is possible to even try such a thing.
BJP at its peak has just 55% seats in LS and 35% seats in RS.
Constitution changing majority across both houses was only available in first 25 years of Indian democracy to congress because there was no alternative
