    This is a demo for the ENGL Gigmaster 30 head. From it's relatively simple control set you can get an extreme amount of flexibility in tones. I have tried to cover as much as possible while keeping the video short. It has clean and lead channels as well as a built-in spring reverb, Gain Boost, Mid Boost and Master Volume Boost. The thing I really like about this is that all of these features and the fx loop are all footswitchable, making it perfect for live use. This head is powered by 4 EL84's giving an output of around 30w.. take it from me, it is a very loud 30w!

    Im a working guitarist. Like most, Im always chasing tone. Im on the fence with this amp, all different genres and styles our band plays keeps me dragging 3 amps and 5 guitars on stage. I think this amp could make the stage cut! Could maybe make the studio after hearing your video. Gonna go play it one more time and make up my mind. Love the video!

    Really good video mate! Nicely detailed! It's a shame there's not much on CZcams about the Gigmaster(s), really good amp.

      +Gareth Hill Cheers man! Yeh I totally agree, especially the 30, yours was one of the few vids that was up when I got mine. I got this one on a whim for such a good deal that I couldn't leave it but it's turned out to be such a good amp little amp and really flexible!

    i had to use my vintage greenback marshall can with my blackmore head, the engl 4...12 with vintage 30,s was harsh, we just never could make it work back in 1998,mine came from germany,to east coast musick in new york, warren haynes has been using engl cabs as long as me..

    i know the distortion on engl is kinda different, its hard to beat say a 1987x,or maybe jtm 45 on distortion, since deep purple an blackmore was an is my all time favourite, his modded marshall majors were number one best sound to me,an when he switched to engl,they were tight, but great too, cause its ritchie..i have the rockpalast 1995 video,an he was using engl savage 120 amps...tight,an maybe not fat or as warm as marshall, but still great..

    not crazy about les pauls,but man this sounds great,what cab are you using,or speaker etc...my engl many years ago was harsh,an would kill you an trebly, the first blackmore signature 100 watt in the u s a back in 1998..we just couldnt get the hang of it, see,...calgaz77...gary chambers, he does good blackmore,and engl stuff..

    Very impressive playing... thinking about getting this amp, Is it good for gigging?
    Also, some say that ENGL amps don't cut through the mix, did you find it to be true?

    • @DanLeggatt
      @DanLeggatt  Před 7 lety

      Definitely not the case for this particular amp. I found it cut through the mix great! Especially if you engaged the mid boost and master boost for solos. I sold this to a friend of mine that plays in a blues/rock band and it's now his main amp.

    • @hakarl_
      @hakarl_ Před 7 lety +3

      That rumour is possibly based on the old Powerball model, but more likely it's about metal players not being able to dial in a cutting tone. It's easy to fall overly in love with the fat, tight bottom end and neglect other frequency areas.

  • @davidledford6482
    @davidledford6482 Před 3 lety

    im thinking about one of these in a combo i can get,it dont have different settings on the back for different things 1 watt,or 5 watts etc....but would be around 600 bucks..i see on the floor part of a jet city cab it looks like..what amp did you go to,an why in the world, this is killer sound, o well....

    • @DanLeggatt
      @DanLeggatt  Před 3 lety

      I’ve had loads of amps since this to be honest. I liked this amp a lot but I prefer an amp that does one thing really well. This did a lot of things pretty well. I didn’t really bond with the overdrive tones as much as other amps. It’s not that it didn’t sound great, it just didn’t work for me.

  • @davidledford6482
    @davidledford6482 Před 3 lety

    what speaker cab etc are you using,and is this amp head etc for sale,im near atlanta,an found a combo gigmaster 30 used etc...im near 666 an allways played marshall plexis an others an fenders, peavy etc, classic blues rock,an hard rock,i hate metal an shred etc..but man you got some great tones,possibly some of best on youtube no matter what kinda amp,what all are you using, just amp,an footswitch i hope...

    • @DanLeggatt
      @DanLeggatt  Před 3 lety

      This was a very long time ago but I think it was a Peavey Classic Cab with the stick Sheffield speaker. The Sheffield is pretty similar in voice to a Greenback.
      There is a chance it was a Jet City 2x12 with Creamback 65’s but pretty sure it was the Peavey.
      No pedals, just the amp 👍

    Hey bro! I just recently purchased the GigMaster 30 head and since I'm a tube noob- wondering how to direct record into my interface. Is "line out' where I should run a 1/4 inch cable from the head to the interface? Or is mic'ing my cab the best option. I record in my apartment and was wondering which way is the correct way. Thank you so much!

    • @DanLeggatt
      @DanLeggatt  Před 8 lety

      +Raul Torres Hey bud, congrats on the new amp! Mic'ing the cab is would get my vote in that situation. Even if you use the line out you would need a speaker cab connected, so the volume would still be there anyway. I'm sure you know already but never operate a valve amp without a speaker cab connected. The line out also does not have any kind of speaker emulation so it will sound fizzy and nasty unless you process it in your computer using an impulse response or similar. Let me know if you need any more help man. All the best.

      why all making this stupid question for any low wattage amp???all tube amps are loud enough to play with drums,all you need is to set the gain lower and crank the volume up.you will take your gain by the power tubes

    Sounds like it needs a boost if you want high gain.

    • @DanLeggatt
      @DanLeggatt  Před 3 lety +1

      The input gain works on both channels. If you boost that with high gain settings and the gain boost you shouldn’t need an external pedal unless you wanted to.

All these guys play blues and classic rock. If you actually watched the video you would see that I covered many styles throughout the video so anyone looking to buy one has an idea of how it would suit their style. Thanks for taking the time to comment and anyone wanting to watch a demo of how this amp is ‘supposed’ to be played can watch the video that you made for free, in your own time... oh wait 😂
