Nice! Thanks for watching!
Very good lesson , digestible and very accessible- thanks - love the art visible in the background - almost looks like Frank Marino’s first two album covers or some Dali surrealism 👍🎸🙏🌏✌️
Really appreciate the kind words and I’m a big art nerd…some Giovanni Boldini on the walls felt right haha. I think it’s called Girl Reading In A Salon. Thanks again and so glad you dig the video!
This is a most useful video. Thank you very much. I’ve always loved the gypsy element of the harmonic minor scale, but have not developed this crafty twist to conventional music as of yet.
Killer! So glad you found it helpful. I felt like I was getting away with something when I stumbled onto it. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Very cool. Thank you.
Appreciate you watching!
It’s got that Sleep Walk sound. Santo and Johnny
100%
Thank you very much! Your explanation and actually playing the scales were understandable and to the point and your playing was beautiful. You are a very good instructor. Good luck on your journey and you never know maybe we can play together some day.
Man thank you so much for the kind words. Appreciate you checking the video out!
Good analysis, and I've stumbled into this scale, but didn't quite know how to identify it or apply it. Appreciate the insights.
Nice! The two applications I tend to use it on are the 4min and 2minb5 instances.
Appreciate you watching and so glad you found it helpful!
Brilliant brilliant brilliant player
You are too kind. If you want to see a really brilliant player go check out @501chorusecho with Uncle Larry.
Appreciate the kind words and thanks for watching!
Very nice.
Thank you!
Thanks a lot for sharing your knowledge ! :)
Lord knows I’ve had everybody I’ve met the last 18 years share with me more than I deserved haha.
You are more than welcome and thank you for watching!
@@NickyV Thanks again ! :) Stay safe and happy, and receive much love and positive vibes from a remote south pacific island... :)
Thats bloody nice mate! Ive subscribed...... oh I need this, Im in pentatonic jail
The pentatonic prison is no joke. So glad you found this helpful.
Not sure if you’ve dug into this or not yet but I might do a video on pentatonic substitutions. It’s a cool trick to help players get more out of the shapes they already know.
Appreciate the sub!
Good lesson, I'm subscribed.
I'm having a great time with 'that' note already,. How about some examples of unique chord shapes to lay underneath it?
Once again 10 points.
I need to do a video on inversions…moving some unusual but useful voicings around possibly.
In C major if you look up some Dmin7b5 shapes or Fmin inversions…that might be a good starting place…or play an Ab major chord with a 3rd in the bass.
Thank you, I think I felt so 'spoiled' by that A flat tip - in key C - that my mind blanked for a while.
I still recall the thrill of practicing minor Phrygian as a teen metal head, and I just felt that thrill again. @@NickyV
It’s wild how new things feel more magical when we are first starting out and stumble onto something that colors our ear a bit differently. The constant pursuit.
Gr8 content and insights. Suggestion: like in the intro to your video always do an outro to your videos demonstrating the talking points and instruction as it rounds off the learning and leaves us with the music itself. Your playing is beautiful so it deserves more airtime. This is coming from a dude who's played all his life but knows nothing about theory but has a really gr8 ear and enjoy using things I see and hear:) Much appreciated! You have a new subscriber.
That’s great advice and I’ll try to incorporate that into the future videos! Appreciate the sub and so glad you enjoyed it man. Thank you for the kind words as well!
Good job Nicky V.
Thanks boss!
harmonizing the scale would be good....great channel!!!
You are correct. I should have done that to break down all of its 7th chords. Appreciate the feedback and kind words!
Sick
Thanks for watching!
Hey Nick. Nice lesson. 1 thing 1st. Please

Thank you for the feedback. I’ll make the diagrams larger in the future. Thanks for watching!
Hi Fantastic lesson !!! what effects pedals do you use? Thanks
Thanks!!! I actually have the whole signal chain and pedal list in the description. If you are interested in any of the pedals and hit the links there, Sweetwater helps the channel out a bit.
Appreciate you watching!

Indian classical has a few harmonic major raga’s.Cacophony used harmonic major and Friedman used it on Holy Wars.
Im familiar with Holy Wars but will have to do some digging on the others. Thanks for sharing!
Technically, there is no four minor in the key of C.
But I do like the way the harmonic major scale sounds When applied to the four minor chord. If you play, an F minor seven chord, however, you will get a bit of a rub from the E major note in the scale.
I am always looking for new ways to add color to the music. Part of the fun!
This lesson was geared towards addressing when a four minor does come up in a major key. Just another color/improvisational option.
Appreciate you watching!
You just got another subscriber.
Love it! Thank you. I’ll try to keep the goods coming.
@@NickyV Hey, the tune you’re playing at the beginning of the video, is that part of a song? If it’s not, it should be.
It’s not part of any song. Just something I came up with to demonstrate the scale. Might have to work it into something at some point haha
@@NickyV I’m a member of lick library and, I can’t find anything on this scale. This is a beautifully melodic scale that’s well worth the time it takes to learn and incorporate it.
That’s great man. It’s not super common or talked about but I think it should be haha. Glad the video is getting a good response.
Is it the same scale use in the song "slepp walk"? because it sounds so much like it
It is in fact!
I actually recorded a section talking about that to put towards the end of the video but somehow lost the file between camera and laptop. It was kind of a “here’s something universally loved…sleepwalk, if your grandma likes it, you are doing something right” segment.
You hit the nail on the head. Thanks for watching!
How would you apply this to jamming on Whippin Post? G harmonic major?
If you are playing Whipping Post in Amin…G Harmonic would give you a b5 (Eb note) which might be a little dissonant but you might be able to finesse it to work over certain sections.
Another option might be E Harmonic Major….its also dissonant in that context as well and will give you a few exotic color tones…but also has some chord tones from A Dorian/all the usual stuff that sounds good.
Both are pretty outside but could be fun.
Thanks for watching!
I subbed. I am lvl 1 after over 40 y ears of playing. compared to this. this is great
Hey John, thank you for the sub and kind words. I feel like I’m level 1 myself every time I walk in a studio or see my friends playing haha. The endless pursuit.
