Indeed! Couldn't have asked for better than a 3-game final, with the finishing game being decided turn by turn on a very equal playfield. Well played by both sides.
What a GREAT match here, I am a fan of both of these deck builds, especially the black deck as that was one of my very successful tourney decks, well done gentlemen!
Thanks for the pics credit! 🤣 Not necessary, but of course cool - first time being cited on uTube. Already waiting for the Prosecco 2025 - one spritz, 3€ 😍🍹
So this is the dilemma of most players' mono black deck, especially once you get into Fallen Empires. You have three sets of "good" cards to play with and all three conflict with each other. 1) Fast And Furious (excellent cheap creatures like Knights and Hyppies & premium discard MT, Hymns and also Hyppies plus The Rack) - you go fast while you trip up your opponent by making them discard, especially discarding expensive board wipe or potentially big blocker creatures ...conflicting with: 2) Slow And Low (4x Sink Hole + 1x Strip Mine plus 3-4x Paralyze and 1-4x Underworld Dreams) slow down your opponent with LD, take advantage of the slow game with Underworld Dreams The problem with 1 and 2 is they completely conflict. The first is happy with the opponent having no cards and thus no options against your quickly established creature board while the latter likes the opponent drawing cards and holding them in hand, playing a longer game. In the world of 94-95 play, if you're trying to win with simple cards, like say fast and aggressive attacking creatures, the last thing you want is for the game to go longer, like with LD. Like in the match above, a opponent can get Mind Twisted to one card, draw a Balance and the game turns 180 degrees instantly...same with Wheel Of Fortune, Timetwister, Demonic Tutor, etc. So it's better to go fast as possible and finish them off quickly with, say, a Drain Life than it is for an aggro deck to slow the game down and wait for the opponent to draw one of many broken cards and turn the match around. And then we have... 3) Black vs. Brown (Cards with lot of black mana pips vs. artifacts and cards that cast artifacts like Sol Ring) Naturally anyone having tried mono black knows the devotion to black is the highest of any color with only white coming close. That will conflict with Sol Ring, Factory and anything else to help power Juggernaut. Now if you are playing a deck with a lot of key artifacts and enchantments, you can have 20+ Disenchant targets to the opponent's 4x DEs and 1-2x DOs. That makes sense. But in mono black, to force brown in, this will often hurt as much if not more than the brown cards help. As a mono black player who won multiple large (64+ participants) tournaments in 1994 and 1995, both Type 1 and Type 2, my deck was crazy fast so I had a lot of experience tuning the deck.
Makes sense in theory and maybe in actual 94/95, but the in current old school, the unpowered monoblack decks with good results use sinkhole/factory. Even mono white decks with Armageddon are weaker without factory. Until proven otherwise, I have to go with the results I've seen in the last 7 years of play. Time to enter a tournament or post the list for people to test out! The era of hiding tech is long gone.
@@RA-jk9qd The current environment unfortunately is quite primitive the past 94-95, which is why so many cards that were restricted back then are not restricted now. I’m referring to the cards that were restricted and stayed restricted. The player base’s rulesets nowadays allow for 4x of cards that are very broken but no one seems to know why they ever were restricted.
@@Rorschachqp As the coach used to say, "talk is cheap", and "the tape don't lie." This is considered to be a solved format, but if you think have something new that could work, it's time to put it to the test in real life! If you are unable to play, put up the list for others to try out. All I'm saying is that maybe it works maybe it doesn't, but it's all hearsay until someone actually plays it. Thanks!
@@RA-jk9qd The format is about a year behind what 1995 actually had. I'm saving decklists for when I do my own content. But I'm not theorizing. I played and won many 64 to triple digit participant tournaments in LA back then. The players of the current format have no idea why some cards were restricted and stayed restricted. It's because they had been broken in certain decks but no one plays them now. The fact that people play ok cards like Mishra's Factory when no one played that card back then because many times games didn't go 5 turns until someone either had a soft or hard lock, or just outright killed you. I even know the exact type of deck and I know who made the deck. I'm just not saying.
@@Rorschachqp The key word being 1995. My point is I think you are underestimating the differences between the formats, different rules/restrictions/experience levels/knowledge. I don't doubt you won in 1995. Having said that, I look forward to the content! When can we expect it?
Black in a format with Hymns and Pump Knights is really strong 💪🏻 besides black, mono white also did great at the tournament and there was a Goblin’s deck making t8
Wow, fantastic match :)! And the game 3..a thriller ^^ ! I can't identify the 2 cards between Underworld Dreams and Paralyze, and the 3 cards in the sideboard between the Glooms and Death Grip, is there someone to help me please ^^ :) ?
That was great! Question: in game 2 did Skys use Greater Realm with only 1 mana instead of 2? He prevented 2 damage from Hypnotic with 2 mana. Did i miss something?
Wohoo - let's go Mono Black💪🍻 And unpowered 🤩
It’s a force to reckon with in Atlantic
Watching now. Let’s go Mono Black!

Yes! We should start a whole series!
Love the channel. Gonna be going to Kentucky to play some old school next week.
That Italian music really sets the mood 👌
Thanks, I really enjoyed making the intro 😂 It was a great trip and the community is so friendly

Giovanni played the beginning of game 3 like a pro. Baiting the counter, going after land, then waiting for the right moment to hymn. Well done, sir!

Oh yes, thank you.

...but why the V:tES rulebook in the black deck pic? Psychological warfare?
