This is the Crimson Peak. And next door is the Twin Peaks. Do not ever ask what’s happening over there.

I actually loved this movie. It felt like one of those old movies like Black Sunday. It was an aesthetic. Haunting. It's very Victorian romance and horror.

Love Del Toro and wanted to love this flick, but I find it lacking. Not creepy and all that intriguing. He already did a great Gothic Romance with The Devil's Backbone and Pan's Labyrinth. However, Crimson Peak is worth watching because it's GORGEOUS!

THANK GOD!!! This film was sooooooooooo disappointing!! Not scary, not creepy, not fun... Not bad, per se, but not very good. C+ for me. Very disappointing compared to what I'd hoped.
Edit: The cinematography is awesome, but that ain't what I was there for, primarily.

A good movie from Mexico's favorite teddy bear, who happens to know that in good ghost movies, atmosphere is what truly matters. And the ghosts have to look awesome, too, because nothing can beat good spirits. Cheers!

This is my 3rd favorite Del Toro’s film, along Pan’s Labyrinth and The Shape Of Water. It is a visual banquet.

I saw this film via DVD back then loved it. The film feels like Del Torro doing a love letter to the Classic Hammer Horror films. The Crimson and red color reminds me of those classic Horror films. Mia Wasikowska's characters surname of Cushing is likely a nod to legendary Hammer alumni Sir Peter Cushing.

In my unqualified opinion-I don’t think Ghost stories really work in a film medium. Sure there are some outliers, like The Shining-but the outliers tend to have a bit more meat on their bones; whether that be visuals or better subplots or just surreal settings.
I think ghost stories-especially haunted house ones-work better in written or orated formats.
For me-this movie isn’t the best representation of a ghost story.

      Agreed.
I think they're difficult to make without seeming repetitive,
like you've seen it all before.
      Subtlety helps.
I think you're qualified to have an opinion.
If you don't work in the industry,
you still watch and enjoy movies.
I think that makes you somewhat qualified.

Sometimes a lack of substance is immaterial when a film has this incredible style. I can't resist a ghost/haunting theme when the art direction provides so much eye candy.

I think Crimson Peak took a few points from The Woman In Black, but was better, for the most part. However, seeing "Harry Potter" being haunted was kinda hilarious. I mean, don't get me wrong, I liked both of them. But Crimson Peak was more imaginative, and the ghosts were hella creepy!💙

I personally consider Crimson Peak one of Del Toro's worst. The visuals are stunning (even though a bit fake-ish) but I'm not willing to give the story a pass. It's predictable and obvious. It feel that it's "plodding along" because it offers no surprises. As for the characters, there isnt much to them either. You know what they're about pretty much from the start. Sharpe is an obvious creep with a weird relationship with his sister. That doesnt change much. Everything is telegraphed to the viewer by the performances and writing.
I like many "style over subtance" movies but for some reason this really doesnt do it for me. Maybe because I know Del Toro can do better. Visuals and storywise.
