Just got one in order. Been wanting a CZ 457 with either the Varmint or MTR barrel but they've been out of stock everywhere for a few months now that i have some cash and ready to move up from my Savage MkII FV-SR (great rifle for gettjng started in PRS if youre not wanting to spend a ton of money on it yet. For $230 the MkII FV-SR is a lot of rifle for the money). Finally found an MTR like this one in stock and immediately ordered it. Cant wait for it to arrive and get it scopwd and start zeroing and testing out ammo types with it.
Hey Danny! The Precision trainer is really nice as well. I reviewed one last year. I just had to have the wood stock for the looks. Probably won’t do much to this one. Thanks for watching and commenting!
A lot of people are dropping in a thinner wire trigger return spring($1), triggers can be tuned down to under 1.5#s and it is still the same trigger that comes out of the box. Rimfire Central CZ forum mod.
I have heard about that. I also heard of someone doing that in production class and the MD wanted to move them to open for doing that. I guess that all depends on the rulebook. Thanks for the comment and for watching the channel.
Problem with this platform is constant lack of magazine availability for CZ 452/455/457 rifles. This issue has been ongoing for years. When they are in stock, they can be $50 plus. Guys have been paying $70-$100 each, so a handful of mags can cost more than the rifle. Get it together, CZ.
maybe things have changed a lot recently or its based on your area but I see steel mags here for 40 and poly for 35 sitting in stock and even the new extended mag I just got my first CZ a few days ago and got 2 extra steels when I got it
It was a big problem in when I bought it but I think that has gotten much better now. It took me a while to find an extra magazine. I did find four more mags about 8ish months after buying it and it is my favorite rifle I own absolutely beautiful. Also I've had the best luck with eley match ammo. Seems it has expensive taste. Also had really good luck with federal auto match? I shot around 15 types of 22 through it and that's what I found? Take it or leave it?
Thanks Tim. I think I am going to be getting one shortly, I do have the old rubber golfball on my 455 that CZ use to make. Every makes fun of me with that thing. LOL.
indeed, a lot of us do like the rimfire content. I have a 457 with the Boyd's stock. Very accurate rifle and I like the Boyd's adjustable stock. Thanks for posting.
Underrated training rifles in the CZ 457 or 455 22LR w/Boyds Pro Varmint stock ( then experience the joy of a CZ 527 in .223 w/Boyds Pro Varmint stock). Extremely accurate trainers you can build on a dime when paired with a Arkin optic of choice. Serious trainers you can compete with and enjoy burning through ammo. You'll be glad you did when your CZ 'trainer' proves superior to religulous practitioners of Voodoo economics gunwork.
Thanks for an honest and open assessment. Great video especially considering it was sort of a last minute effort. Definitely value you opinion and appreciate the rimfire content.
Love your work. Another great vid. My 455 is a shooter, but I put a wmg barrel on it. Bought a Ruger PRP to shoot 22lr. Still working to get groups like that. Trigger, bolt handle and knob added. Now it is the shooter, so I enjoy your comments on position techniques, holding cheek position, etc. I have bad habits, having to realign with every other shot or so . Anyway, always look forward to what you have to say. 🤙👍
CZ’s are shooters!! One thing I started doing when trying to wring out little bitty groups is to pull a Hoppes Viper snake through the bore 2 times after 10 or 15 shots. Jury’s out on it’s effectiveness so far but my CZ 512’s (22LR & 22 Mag) are just a smidge outside of 1 moa when the conditions are right and I let the barrel breathe for at least a minute between shots. I only shoots varmints so that certainly meets my needs. I think I’m going to have a 457 before too long. Thanks for the demo…
I've owned a bunch of 457's and keep coming back to them. Best bang for the buck in the 22 world. Most affordable way to lower the trigger effort is to replace the spring. No need for an aftermarket spring as you can use one from a BIC lighter (cut to size) to replace the factory spring. A BIC lighter is made with two springs, use the bigger diameter one. Then polish the top of your sear before reassembly and Bob's your uncle. I've done it with every 457 I've ever owned. I do the mod before the first round goes down the barrel. Trigger effort will get it down to about a pound.
She's a beauty! Very nice video. Thanks for sharing. That is a rimfire I'd really like to have in my collection. With an adjustable cheekpiece and a rail on bottom, that thing would be perfect for NRL 22! 👍
I appreciate it and thank you. I was just so apprehensive about stepping up to a real camera and sound system. Glad I made the switch and thank you for watching.
Thanks for the review Ray. That is the model I was looking for before I went down the Rimx rabbit hole (still waiting on a chassis). I even bought some CZ 10 rounder mags when I found them available because those had been kind of had to find for a while the last 2 years, so I may try to add one to the collection some time down the road.
Hey SixRutters! This is by no means going to replace my Vudoo’s or Rim-x’s. They are just better balanced and more refined than the CZ. However, it is a great option for sure. Thanks for watching.
The 457s just plain shoot. I purchased a 457 Varmint because I plan on dropping it in a chassis and grabbing a Lilja barrel. thing shoots lights out right out of the box. I took 5th my first NRL22 match running Eley Target and an Arken EP5. Couldn’t be happier with that setup
Very Good Vid. I just pulled the trigger on getting this make and model CZ. I put a Vector Sentinel-X 10-40x50 scope with Vortex rings. My trigger is set at 8 ounces. I have taken it out twice. It seems to prefer the Lapua Center-X, SK flat nose, and CCI SV Target. I am going to stock up on the CCI for practice and shoot the Center-X when shooting against my son-in-law. I don't compete in any formal matches or anything (maybe some day), just my friends and family. I love this rifle. I know the Vector optic isn't high quality glass, but I thought I would try it out based on a recommendation, and I don't regret buying it one bit. Very good for the money.
Beautiful rifle. It has a great grain pattern. That rifle is dead on. Would like to see you shoot a match with it. Thanks Ray for the video. Have a good week sir.
I love my CZ 457. I average 1" five shot groups at 100 yards but have shot some .33" five shot groups. When I move out to 200 yards my groups open up to about 2.8" average.
I think the MTR is going to get an Arken so that I can have a full production rig. I know there are some great trigger options for them now. Thanks Proxhunter.
Good video Ray, I’m impressed how well It shot off the shelf. At the time I couldn’t find that model so I bought the B14R. It did pretty well but I’m got in touch with Kenny and have a RimX coming someday soon I hope. I sold the Bergara and the only 22lr I have now is the Ruger 10/22 Competition Model in stainless. It has spoiled me on the speed shoots we do but it’s not great at distance. I did find some RimX mags so I have two extra when it shows up. Glad you’re back in the Rimfire, I’ve learned a lot watching you. Thanks
Beautiful!! Would be great to see Kidd in your hands. I have one with Victor Titan stock and it shoots awesome. Many groups around 1/2” at 100 yards. Shot at 500 yards and hit the target 3/10.
Spectacular CZ 457 rifle !!!!!!!!!!! I have a CZ 457 Jaguar, an it's a fantastic rimfire rifle. I would advise you to get a Area 419 bolt knob for better grip. Two thumbs way Up X-Ring
Impressive shooting, hoping to purchase one of these soon. Had considered the LRP model, which is available here in Northern Ireland. However, its quite a bit more expensive due to having a different stock with adjustable cheek riser and length of pull. However, both rifles feature the same barrel and match chamber.
The mtr varmint family are collectable ❤ I love my 308 and 243 mtr's. Grendel mtr's are crazy expensive now. The 22lr is next on my list. Post apocalyptic you always have good firewood if they break lol😂
I’ve had one about 6 months not even mounted my scope on yet been sick nor my arca rail lol 419 base still in bag lol got another rifle the same week in center fire same way just sitting in box I cleaned them but that’s all
Well I hope you start feeling better linkless. Your health is everything and taking care of yourself takes first priority. I appreciate you watching the channel and I hope you will be outside shooting in the spring.
Good video. Really shows the potential for this $700 out of the box rifle. BTW, That factory trigger can be brought to 10 oz with just a spring change. The A419 rail is the tallest of them all. A MDT, EGW or DIP will drop your scope a bit.
You have to be the luckiest guy I know if you can walk into a gun store an there is a 457 MTR just sitting there waiting on you. I had them on order with half dozen distributors for a year and never drew the lucky straw when they did see one.
LOL, so the gun store is actually a pet supply house and sells Carhart clothing. The gun store portion is literally about 10' wide and 15' long. When I saw it on the wall my mouth about hit the floor. Couldn't believe they had one.
I LOVE my CZ MTR! I put a F1 black raptor from Bradley Cheek Rest on mine, a Timney Trigger, Area 419 30 MOA rail and bolt knob and it's a driver at 50 and 100 yards! I cannot bring myself to take it out of that beautiful stock, so I'm going to hold my breath and drill holes for the Area 419 ARCA rail. If youbfind one grab it.
Big hello from County Tyrone in Northern Ireland. I loved this video. The reason l am here is that I am looking for a .22LR target rifle. I would love you to please think about doing a video comparing this rifle to a Ruger American Long Range Target and Ruger Precision. Keep up the the great percise content.
nice video , and good info for a new shooter like me , i have one mtr from 2019 production with a 11 mm group test , i do br 50 with a sightron s2 , good scope and yo dave kitt , i like to put a area 419 bolt knob but it is a nightmare purchase something from usa , i think in a timney trigger , wish you a good 2023 .
Hi, I have the same rifle with a Vortex Strike Eagle 5-25 x 56 scope on the CZ Picatinny rail (25 MOA) and 1 inch high mounting rings. The cheek piece is not optimal for me either, causing runaways in the shot pattern. From there I am on the search for a cheek piece riser. However, I am still reluctant to drill holes in the walnut stock to mount the cheek piece. Nevertheless, the CZ 457 MTR is recommended. I would buy it again. Greetings from Austria, Hans
Hello Hans and thank you for watching the channel. Austria has always been one of my favorite places to visit. The last time I was there I had to check out the Swarovski Kristallwelten, I was hoping they would have at least some scopes to look at. Sadly, that was not the case. It would pain me as well to drill into that stock.. I think I will look into some less invasive alternatives. Thank you for watching.
Good video on a great rifle. I've owned 3 of these and still keep one to shoot even though I have a Vudoo. My advice is to skip the A419 rail and go with an EGW/MDT/CZ base which is much mower. Coupled with low rings, you can get a 56mm objective scope just off the barrel and eliminate the need to kluge a cheek rest on the stock. The factory trigger can be adjusted to a crisp 1.5#. 1# if you take it apart an polish the internals. (8 oz if you change out the trigger spring)
Nice review Ray, I bought one of these rifles last year, indeed the stock is beautifully crafted, but the cheekcomb is a shortcoming on this rifle (I bought a kind of cheek riser made of leather which is designed for centrefire rifles as it can hold some extra cartridges on the side, it straps around the buttstock and it does not look too bad, it gives me the perfect cheek weld). I do not know how easy it is to find RWS ammo in USA, but try to give a go on the RWS Special Match .22LR ammo, I got excellent results with it, Eley Club also shot well, some others had feeding problem such as Eley Contact, it would be nice to see a comparison between different ammo, I know a lot of people have done that throughout CZcams, but I believe you are one of the finest shooters out there. I am planning to get an MDT ACC chassis in future, it would be nice if you eventually go throufh that route as well and share your experience and tips with it. Congrats on the new purchase, hopefully it can bring you some trophies home (that would be a humbling demonstration of skills and a good rifle to Vodoos / Rimex owners)...thanks for your contributions to the sport.
Hello ohleocleafar, those are some very kind words and I sincerely appreciate the comment. I will give RWS a try and see how it does with this setup. I do have an MDT chassis but am primarily using MPA's since I shoot for them now. I really appreciate you watching the channel. Thank you again and have a great week.
That factory Cz shot groups as good as any I have seen on Kenny’s channel with Center X. 👀. Makes it hard to justify custom barrels and triggers when a stock factory rifle is shooting .3” groups or better at 50yds and sub MOA at 100yds. You just proved to everyone that you can achieve great accuracy at about a quarter of the cost of a custom 22lr. Your cold bore shift was really not a factor at all. 👍👍
Your absolutely correct... to a extent. Their are many *Factory rifles* that can compete with the best *custom* 22lrs. However, you can be lucky or not. Hence why many have reached out to my shop to rebarrel CZ457's including many MTR's. So the question I'd ask is, "How many CZ457 MTR's are you willing to buy to get a hummer factory rifle?". As you are aware, I differ from most shops because I guarantee the accuracy by field testing each rifle. Other benefits to consider are the barrels and chambers I choose produce a more consistent accurate rifle that is less picky on ammo. As you've seen, my CZ457 or 22lr builds can shoot any match grade ammo at competitive group sizes Thiers also weight balance of a heavy contour barrel to consider. These factory rifles are not configured for balance, which is crucial for positional shooting. To each their own I guess... and you don't know what you don't know
Kenny if I didn’t live in Canada you would definately be building me a rifle. I watch all your videos and totally respect the work you do and the awesome information that I am able to learn from your testing. I can purchase a Vudoo in Canada but I am not totally impressed with the quality for the money you need to spend on one🤔
That's a great shooting CZ and nice looking too! 👍🏼 You mentioned KIDD but if you want the most accurate 10/22, contact Joe Chacon at Auto Bench Rest Association ABRA. He builds the best 10/22s on the planet! I'm biased in saying that because I have one of his barrelled actions in an Accurate Rifle Systems chassis and it will shoot neck and neck with my Vudoo and sometimes beat it on occasion.
I actually contacted him about a year and half or so. We spoke about a setup but the turnaround time wasn't going to work for me. I know he is good at what he does. I wonder why you never see them at PRS rimfire style events ?
@@XRING It's because Joe's game is mostly ABRA shot off a bench using his special Benchrest stocks. Joe wasn't exactly thrilled that I only wanted his barreled action to put in a chassis to compete in KYL and ABRA but KYL isn't shot much anymore and I'm too old for a PRS course, lol. Hell, since Kenny builds most of your rifles, have you seen his latest video featuring Bergara's 10/22 Clone? I bet he could build you one of those using one of his custom barrels that would be superior to KIDD and maybe Joe's rifles too. ...just a thought!
NICE ALL THE WAY AROUND. Great content, Great quality man what camera gear are you fellas using now. I am stuck it only seems right I should have a CZ457 but Tikka and Bergara just has me all confused Ray 😁
Man! I hope you have been well. I took the plunge and bought a Sony A7 IV and some good lenses. I paired that up with some Senheisser Lavalier mics. It has definitely made a difference in the sound quality and picture. I am still having fun with it and I hope you are as well.
For sure Bryan. I already have a Kenny built 455 that I am waiting on a chassis from MPA to use. That one is a hammer as well. I hope you have been well.
My cz pro Varmint favors S&K (I dont remember lot#) over Lapua. However, I wish the Pro Varmint came w/ a 20" bbl like other CZ models instead of a 16"
Your buddy Josh at pursuit of accuracy has a good video on 5 mods for that rifle that just came out. I'd order the ones you haven't gotten yet, or if they aren't included in a an upcoming video already! He probably has spare parts, as many as he has built, or Kenny Eye. Either way you can't go wrong, that aluminum mag well, mag extensions, etc. I can't wait to see what you do to yours to make it fit your needs either, that's half the fun of it anyway. How do you like that Zeiss LRP, and is that a new scope that you're doing a review on, or something you had already and gave it a home on your new CZ? Kind of curious how your Zeiss stacks up against NF and the others cost vs optic quality, price and the whole ball of wax. Interested in the new build see ya!
Hello Brad. I actually spoke to Josh yesterday. Funny story, the first time I ever held an MTR was the day I met Josh at a match when he was first getting started. I know he knows these CZ's inside and out. The LRP S5 just happened to be out and on the table when I got home and wanted to shoot the CZ. More than likely, I will end up putting an Arken scope on it to make production division if I ever choose to shoot that division. I really like the Zeiss LRP S3. It really is a well thought out scope and one on my favorites. I know that after I let Kenny try out mine he is now sold on them as well. Thanks again for watching the channel Brad.
@@XRING Thanks for the reply. I know most are going to change that stock but you'd have to admit that laser etching is pretty darn cool! Thanks for the info on the Zeiss too. See ya next time.
Lol you could have bought 4 more czs for the cost of that zeiss, 😂😂 crazy elevation and windage turrets.👍 Really would like to see you do a review of that awesome scope. Probably the best scope for 22 long range because of the travel you have in that. Thoughts?
Beautiful rifle! Love the shots of the woodwork and etching. The way you work the bolt to chamber each round is phenomenal! Thanks for sharing!
.....he certainly can work the bolt faster than I've ever seen......lol
I’ve seen CZ use this type of stock before on a 308 setup
@@ericrumpel3105 Goals! 😂
@@ericrumpel3105 LOL!
Working the bolt really fast means he’s never owned an expensive rimfire rifle. Absolutely no point in doing that.
Finally found an MTR like this one in stock and immediately ordered it. Cant wait for it to arrive and get it scopwd and start zeroing and testing out ammo types with it.
Great video, I couldn't get the MTR, but did get the Precision Trainer in the Manners stock. It is way beyond my capabilities without doubt!!
Hey Danny! The Precision trainer is really nice as well. I reviewed one last year. I just had to have the wood stock for the looks. Probably won’t do much to this one. Thanks for watching and commenting!
I've got the 457 at one varmint. It shoots great.

Yes sir,,, you are correct.
PS... don't forget the Brno # 4 as well.
I will find a unicorn before finding 10 round magazines for it.
is this problem only for the Varmint MTR?
Thanks for the video. Changing out the bolt knob is no big deal. I actually have a knob off of a B14R on mine. Have a great New Year. Be Safe
Thanks Tim. I think I am going to be getting one shortly, I do have the old rubber golfball on my 455 that CZ use to make. Every makes fun of me with that thing. LOL.
I kinda liked those big bolt knobs the CZ used to have. I was a little disappointed when there wasn't one in the box when I bought mine. Be Safe.

Thanks and thank you for watching Cliff.
My CZ 457 barreled with a masterpiece arms barrel will keep up with a vudoo or rimx all day.
In some cases it has an advantage over the other two. Thanks for watching Matthew.
Great video! When I met you and Rick the other day I had mentioned rim fire was my favorite…I have had the 457 on my bucket list. Good shooting.
Hey Stuart! I hope you have been well. The CZ is definitely a great one to have. Have a Happy New Year.

Thats basically how I ended up with my mtr varmint. The victor titan cheek piece and some double sided tape works well.
I'll have to check them out. Thanks for the comment and for watching the channel.
Beautiful gun and it shoots lights out, CZ makes some quality guns! Thanks for the video, Happy New Year :)
Thank you Patthis! I hope you have a Happy New Year as well.

Nice to see a review by someone that can shoot.

Thanks Ray in a better stock it could be a great setup , and Boretec is my favorite cleaner !

Thanks Charles. I hope you and your family had a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year as well.
Impressive shooting, hoping to purchase one of these soon. Had considered the LRP model, which is available here in Northern Ireland. However, its quite a bit more expensive due to having a different stock with adjustable cheek riser and length of pull. However, both rifles feature the same barrel and match chamber.
love the rimfire content
The mtr varmint family are collectable ❤ I love my 308 and 243 mtr's. Grendel mtr's are crazy expensive now. The 22lr is next on my list. Post apocalyptic you always have good firewood if they break lol😂
Thank you. Great video.
Thank you for watching West Texas! Have a great week.
for out of the box thats a tack driver. awsome
I agree John. I think this is going to be a keeper for sure. Thanks for watching the channel.
Really cool gun and great video as always keepem coming brother!!!
Thanks user and thanks for watching the channel! 👍🏼
Yup ya gotta love cz Love mine 👍
Bought my first rifle at the start of COVID. CZ 457 American was the choice.
That's a great gun for ARA factory class also.
I have my Grandfather's Old Winchester model 69 and it shoots good but damn that is awesome 👍
Some of those old Winchesters are real tack drivers. Thanks for watching the channel! 👍🏼
Thanks for the recommendation Shannon
Love the elegance and craftsmanship in some of the CZ line. You continue to be my hero. Hopefully one day we can shoot together.
Great video, exactly what I wanted to know about the MTR 👍🏻
I LOVE my CZ MTR! I put a F1 black raptor from Bradley Cheek Rest on mine, a Timney Trigger, Area 419 30 MOA rail and bolt knob and it's a driver at 50 and 100 yards! I cannot bring myself to take it out of that beautiful stock, so I'm going to hold my breath and drill holes for the Area 419 ARCA rail. If youbfind one grab it.
XRing also try Norma Tac22 it runs excellent in mine and is better on the wallet
I tried a few boxes of the Norma Tac22 in all my rifles. It didn’t shoot well for me. Really high SD’s
Good stuff. Thanks Ray.
Thanks Joel. I hope you have been doing well. Looks like you are ready for the NRL Hunter season.
@@XRING doing well. Hopefully doing several hunter matches this year. 👍
Those groups are nice, but that bolt manipulation was incredible. Liked and subscribed 🍻🇨🇦🤘🏻
Just realized you had it in fast forward for the shots lol! Still liked and subscribed 😂
Really enjoy your content.
Thank you Bill and thank you for watching the channel.
Many thanks for this informations and greetings from germany.
Thank you.
Thank you for watching Camron.
Thanks for sharing this!
Thanks Kubikari I appreciate it! Have a happy New Year. 👍🏼
Wow. Impressive shooting.
Awesome setup!
Yodave makes a spring kit that apparently makes a big difference in the pull weight.
Awesome man !!!
Thx good video.
Thanks for watching the channel Anthony.
I think this one needs to be in the dayattherange flyswatter challenge 😊
Good video on a great rifle. I've owned 3 of these and still keep one to shoot even though I have a Vudoo. My advice is to skip the A419 rail and go with an EGW/MDT/CZ base which is much mower. Coupled with low rings, you can get a 56mm objective scope just off the barrel and eliminate the need to kluge a cheek rest on the stock. The factory trigger can be adjusted to a crisp 1.5#. 1# if you take it apart an polish the internals. (8 oz if you change out the trigger spring)
And a Happy New Year to you and yours!
Thanks Daniel! You as well sir.
I've had mine for a year only ammo I've shot through mine is sk standard shoots One hole at 50yrds. Have same trouble with cheek
I have heard great things about using SK with this setup.
Damn man , ur reload speed is next level.
LOL! 😂The bolt manipulation was sped up of course so as to save time on the video. Thanks for watching the channel .
As you've seen, my CZ457 or 22lr builds can shoot any match grade ammo at competitive group sizes
Thiers also weight balance of a heavy contour barrel to consider.
She's a beauty.
Nice!
Try SK match grade ammo. It's the most accurate ammo I've tried so far.
That's a great shooting CZ and nice looking too! 👍🏼
You mentioned KIDD but if you want the most accurate 10/22, contact Joe Chacon at Auto Bench Rest Association ABRA.
Wow those bolt reloads are insane 😂 full semi automatic
Nice! I'd buy that rifle in a second LOL!!
Great video as always if you can change the stock which one or a few should i look at im new to 22lr shooting thankyou for your help michigan keith
I like.
Great rifle for the price. Could have a excellent competition rifle with a chassis that fits that barreled action.
For sure Bryan. I already have a Kenny built 455 that I am waiting on a chassis from MPA to use. That one is a hammer as well. I hope you have been well.
My cz pro Varmint favors S&K (I dont remember lot#) over Lapua. However, I wish the Pro Varmint came w/ a 20" bbl like other CZ models instead of a 16"
I don’t have much SK but I have heard nothing but great things about it in the CZ’s. Maybe time to go hunt some for future use. 👍🏼
Nice
CZs shoot bro, looks solid.
Lol you could have bought 4 more czs for the cost of that zeiss, 😂😂 crazy elevation and windage turrets.👍 Really would like to see you do a review of that awesome scope. Probably the best scope for 22 long range because of the travel you have in that. Thoughts?
I did do a review on the S5 as well as the S3 when they were launched by Zeiss.
I would love to have you try out my 10/22 set up I use for NRL22. It shoots way better than I can actually shoot it.
I am going to check out that KIDD and see what it's all about. Thanks for watching and commenting .
One on my list and a 1022 build happy 🔫😅
It would make a dandy squirrel rifle!
