    HI, NICE !! I have good experience by using masonite. On This I put some gelatin (the glass looking pieces you use for pudding) Its thin as water and leaves no brush strokes like with Gesso. After drying you can put on every color with thin oil paint. Just try it !

    great info Freeman, I should really start making my plein air panels as you do, they are getting so costly now -embarrassingly, I don't have a table saw, 🤪 dont tell...

    • @freemanwhiteartist6927
      @freemanwhiteartist6927  Před 3 lety +1

      Yes I end up going through so many panels and to be honest not all of my paintings turn out... the main reason I make my own is the panels available here are poor quality and also expensive! If you find a carpenter they might be able to cut up some ply for you ... make sure it’s the best quality ply you can find !!

      Here in the U.S., the big box home improvement stores like Home Depot, Lowes, and Menards will cut up panels for you for a nominal charge per cut. I bought a 4' by 8', 1/4" luan plywood panel and had them cut half up in 8" by 12" panels. I just picked out a knot free panel. They come pre-sanded and unfinished. I used Rustoleum flat medium grey auto primer in a spray can to prime them. The medium grey helps to get value relationships right.

      @@smasica That is great information thank you so much for sharing 😊 a few weeks ago I actually went to Home Depot and got a Masonite panel, had the guy cut them up into 12“ x 16“ panels, I bought some acrylic gesso to prime them , I have not painted on them yet but I’m looking forward to it one side is kind of smooth, the other side is kind of rough I used a bit of sandpaper but it’s still rough, will take some experiments
      I like your idea of the plywood very much I’m going to try it! thanks for watching ! 👍🙏

    Well, as to safety, I kind of thought that one lowers the blade to just above the height of the material. I'm guessing that reduces the amount of exposed blade.
