Remote wilderness canoe camping trip with my dog in the North Maine Woods.
Muskellunge are not native to Maine. The introduction of musky in Lac Frontiere by the
Quebec Government in the 1960’s enabled musky to migrate to Maine waters lying within the
Saint John River drainage. Baker Lake was the first Maine water to develop a musky fishery in
the early 80’s. Additional populations have recently established in Fifth Saint John Pond, Fourth Saint John Pond, Third St John Pond, Beau Lake and Glazier Lake. Muskellunge are also commonly found to inhabit the St John River, including the Northwest, Southwest Branches and the Baker Branch. They’ve also been reported below Allagash Falls on the Allagash River. Although musky fisheries are very vulnerable to over-exploitation, musky populations in Maine are not actively managed and receive no protection provided by length and bag limits. Relatively low angling pressure in the lightly populated upper Saint John region has minimized potential human impacts on developing musky fisheries. Musky fisheries are not actively managed due to concerns that the presence of these large predators jeopardizes traditional fisheries for wild brook trout and landlocked salmon, particularly if musky establish in other waters within the region. Musky currently reside in a remote region of the state that supports some of the best fisheries for wild brook trout and landlocked salmon in the entire northeast. The concern over potential impacts to native fisheries has precluded the active management and enhancement of musky fisheries in this region of the state.

@Skylar Boston flixportal =)
@Abram Rowan Thank you, I signed up and it seems like a nice service :) I appreciate it!!
@Skylar Boston no problem xD
Was camping in Ohio last week.
Today I'm home in indiana, watching you live the life. I'm doing it from the comfort of my air conditioning n coffee.... but I'd swap with ya in a heart beat
Always enjoy your adventures and cabin repairs, take care CZcams friend
Probably the best video I've seen in some time. Love Gracie. Thanks for a great adventure.
Thanks soo much 🙏🏻
Corey you are a gifted dude....that bridge shot is amazing.....you and Gracie are an amazing team....
Thanks, that’s means a lot to us!
This was really great--including the music. Love your relationship with Gracie. I'm sitting here on the couch with my 12-year old German Shorthair next to/on me. Never have taken her in my canoes (have made a cedar stripper and skin-on-frame) but she's a heck of a quail and pheasant dog which is wonderful here in Kansas. We're commiserating over the loss of her 14-year old brother a few mos ago (same 2 parents, 2 diff. litters) and she's expanded her repertoire from just birds to the couch and bed. I've been to Maine on the coast but not into the Maine woods. But, I do go to the Boundary Waters in Minn. each year for canoeing, pike and walleyes. Really like all of your videos--found them maybe a week ago. Very very nice.

Absolutely love your companion, Gracie. What a sweet and graceful lady she is! I've been to NMW so many times I know more than most of the guides. Was just inside the cabin you restored back Ram Road. What a road that was! I'm very interested in the headwaters of the St. John river and the remote ponds. Fished 5th pond many times, what a wonderful place that is. 3rd is next since I've found the way into that also. Would love to meet up with you for an adventure!
Took my lab fishing in a canoe a couple of times. She put me through hell...Just overstimulated. Couldn't get mad but couldn't laugh either. Miss her.
I know the feeling
I dont know how I missed this video because I was quite certain I had watched every video you've made so far. I'm glad I did, though because I was thrilled to have another opportunity to glide down the river with you and Gracie. Excellent camera work and story telling,Cory. Beautiful 😊💪👏👏👏👏
This is one of my favorite, it was actually a casting video we did for a tv show, we weren’t selected for the show
@@TheMaineWoods That's Cool! Not a doubt in my mind that you will be selected at some point....keep pumping out videos! 💪🌲🦌🐕🚶♂️📹📸
@@slynkylynx after being strung along then getting rejected I didn’t respond the next time I was contacted by the tv network
@@TheMaineWoods Their loss. I'll bet something else like that will be coming your way.
I have spent time on the Big Black with my 2 sons. We canoed and fished it from the bridge on the depot road on the way to St Pamphile to the bridge on the bridge on the Blanchett Road. Had a great day. Enjoyed seeing country had not seen before. We explored much of that country on our fishing trips. It was 20 years ago when we last made it up to the North woods. Lots of great memories . It's great to see Gracie riding on the bow.
Thanks for sharing
That was nice.
Thanks to Sue and Wade @tkcamps for helping me with another successful trip in the Maine woods.
Great video Cory! I have read trip reports of the Black River and am happy to see it firsthand through your eyes. I have to say this is one of your best videos yet! Congrats on the 1000+.
Thanks Dave!

You are working and playing in my favorite part of Maine. ITS GOD'S COUNTRY!
I spent a few months working in downtown Denver, absolutely hated it, I like working in the maine woods better
Awesome video. Congrats on the 1k

Keep em coming!!!
I’m trying, I still have shed tour videos to finish the series
Beautifull!
👍
Great video, well done
Thank you 🙏
I like your video, wish I was there be safe 🙏
Too bad the muskies in Maine are small.
I live in the state of Wisconsin they have some very nice size muskies here.
I used to fish in Canada in the province of Ontario.
I used to fish one like called lake muskin lounge. They had a lot of small muskies and some 30 to 40 lb class fish. When we camped on the little vermilion would have schools of muskies that were very hard to catch nothing too decent between 20 and 30 lb.
Abrams lake and lake vermilion also have some very nice size muskies 50 lbs is not out of the question when you're fishing there.
I hope that someday the Muskies in your state end up in a good lake and grow like the muskies in Wisconsin Minnesota and Canada good luck fishing and God bless you.
I’d rather have the native trout fisheries restored, the Muskie were non native and invasive, it has destroyed the trout populations in the river
@@TheMaineWoodsI kind of like having the option to fish for trout in the allagash waterway and the st John for musky. But I've heard the Musky have finally made it above the falls, so it's only a matter of time until the trout are gone from that waterway too. That's unfortunate, both are beautiful fish.
Awesome…
Thanks Jim
We saw a muskie double the size of the one I caught, I tried to catch it with the fly rod.
its refreshing to see a Christian on the web
Have you seen Zach Fowler?, remarkable guy also in Maine, very inspiring
Oh man, you needed a good spruce pole for that low water. Musky have many bones?
They have y bones, I didn’t know how to properly fillet a fish with y bones until afterwards but it worked out lol
@@TheMaineWoods Tricky Y bones, How about that pole, your already going against, moms advice about no standing, next phase is the pole, much more control in shallow moving water.
What month did you do this trip?
You got me running numbers and pulling up google maps now.
June
Are there any brook trout left in the rivers with all those Muskys there? Another great video. Nice camera footage. Keep them coming.
The muskie have certainly had a negative impact on the trout and native species, i think there are some remnants of trout remaining in specific areas but only a fraction of what once was, keep in mind this is based on my personal observations and experience
Whats the sponge for in the canoe?
The sponge is one of the best pieces of equipment to have in a canoe! It’s so i can sop up the water and keep the canoe dry, wish I could take credit for the idea but I found it with an old vinegar container bailer on the Allagash a few years ago
That's a great idea!
Gotta have the sponge! And what better place to store it than a bail bucket.
I'm going on a trip on the St. john. With some friends in may. What is your spinning rod set up? What kind of line and lure as well?
For the muskie of course.
Where is this ? I would love to paddle and fish that area
Big Black River
Thank you
Old Bay seasoning on French fries? Really?
Only a fool keeps a muskie…
