It is and hopefully it results in lots of goslings 🙂
Ya'll have the best videos. I always learn something new!
Awesome! Thank you so much. We just love sharing what we do and there is usually some useful info in there somewhere 😂
Beautiful Geese! Very nice House and nest for the geese. Looking forward to seeing some eggs.
Thank you for sharing! Hugs and love to you and your family. ❤️✝🤗 Have a beautiful and blessed week. God Bless ❤️✝🤗
All 3 pairs are busy filling their nest boxes. one goose it up to 10 or 11 eggs now. So hopefully they sit and hatch them as we are very excited for goslings! we have never had them on the farm yet.
@@HickorycroftFarm Oh how that will be... I can't wait to see them.
We just redesigned our Goose coop today!!!
We enjoy the geese. We are finding them so simple to raise... just give them a space they like, and away they go. Our 3 girls are all filling their nests already.
Love seeing y’all’s builds. Ravens are sneaky boogers!
They can be terrible. We have 2 now that scope out the place. Definitely can't slip up. So glad you are enjoying our videos. It means a lot🙂
We always enjoy seeing the animals. Thanks for sharing!
Message from the girls..."We are excited to see what's going to happen next"
Hopefully lots of babies!!! we always love this time of year around the farm. We had 3 litters of rabbits arrive on the 1st (video to come, lol) Less then a month till the lambs arrive too! Super exciting
Do you think the dirt will deteriorate your wood floor? Might want to consider least some plastic or better yet plastic laminate on the bottom of the nesting box area then add your dirt. Plastic laminate like you find on countertops in kitchens will hold up really well to dirt and even the animal waste ( poo) put waterproof plywood with laminate flooring on my chicken coop over 4 years ago and the floor holding up really well to all the chickens poo on the floor and it actually makes it easier for cleaning too. Not much sticks to the laminate much, with a scrapper I bought that resembles a broom only a metal handle. Has a 12” natal blade on the bottom that can be removed and sharpened anytime. Works great for scraping the floor of the coop! It’s technically a tool used for removing old flooring, but makes a terrific scraper too! Saves on the back having to scrape crap off the floor! 😂 I use a snow shovel to pick up the dirty (pop) wood chips and now toss it in my tractor bucket to go throw in the garden compost pile. Was using a hand cart to dump the wood chips till it clicked one day. Hey dummy, you got a tractor now! Dump the dirty wood chips the easy way and use your tractor rather then dragging a hand cart to the back field to dump it. Old habits die hard! Tractor certainly easier though! 😂
Wow!!!! I love geese. I want to see the update for this 🙂
The girls have already put some eggs in their nests, so hopefully it is going to be a great year for the geese and lots of goslings. We really enjoy them. Once they are all set up, they are so easy to look after.
@@HickorycroftFarm wow!!! I am so excited... I know if very protective and very good mothers 😊. How many eggs normally they hatch? I guess 10 eggs very easy ... I am waiting the upload for this 👏👏. Have a lovely day!!!
Great set up, looking forward to seeing what’s next!
Hopefully baby geese! 😃
Hello friend! New Subscriber here 👍😁❤
Thank you so much for joining our channel. It is always so great to meet new people.
Looks great! We appreciate seeing you bird and breeding areas. We have turkeys coming this year (we've never raised turkeys) and a new breed of ducks and your set up looks great. Your geese are really beautiful!
Thanks so much. We used to raise Cayuga and Khaki Campbells. We miss them, but we decided to do the geese instead as it worked easier for our homestead. Ducks are so great for getting rid of pests though 🙂
Interesting
We like the geese, they are a bit of an underrated type of poultry (or that's our opinion anyways lol).
@@HickorycroftFarm i was offered geese but my plastic one behaviour is much better for town
I can imagine no one coming down my lawn lol
Do geese make nests out of sand? Or do you have to add hay and or saw dust?
Well that does depend a bit. They will usually pull some materials together (even wild geese) to shape a nest but dirt or sand does work well under the nest as it helps with drainage and can cushion the eggs a bit (i.e. has more give usually than wood or a hard surface). We usually use hay or something similar just to make it easier on the eggs (they are pretty big birds)
what do you do for goose egg storage in the fridge? do you know where to buy goose egg cartons? or have any diy ideas?
To be honest, we just keep them in a basket. Maybe I will do a short video about it. It is really hard to find videos on it. Another thing that works really well is the boxes from 250 ml canning jars that have the cardboard grid between the jars. The eggs fit very nice into each one.
thank you! i’ll try that. I’d love to see a video with your ideas, and what’s working
i live in west texas, hot and dry. do you think they will be able to hatch or should i incubate (africans)? i have 5 femals and 2 males so is 1 male and 2-3 females ok? what size was the box?
They should still be able to incubate the eggs no problem in the spring though I'm not certain how broody the Africans are compared to the American Buff's. The Africans and Chinese geese are usually a bit better suited to warmer climates (though still cold hardy) than the European breeds. The nest box we used was about 2 feet by 2 feet which may be a good size for the Africans as well. The big thing with letting the birds incubate the eggs is you will get fewer goslings but in the grand scheme of thing and the cost of geese that's not really that big of a problem (looking at things in terms of years).
