OBJECTIVITY IN SCIENCE

In this talk, Professor Blackie explores the nature of objectivity in science. In the physical sciences, the individual researcher’s particularity is often negated. The reproducibility of experiments relies on a mechanism that is independent of the individual, but the initial design and analysis are significantly shaped by the particular person.
Prof. Blackie uses critical realism to show how one can hold the objectivity of scientific knowledge alongside creativity.
