Not at all. People are at liberty to purchase and sell whatever they want in a free society. However, I do think it’s important for younger enthusiasts especially to learn skills and develop a passion for building things themselves instead of just purchasing things
I definitely enjoyed this. I think many of us know exactly why this video had to be made but I'm glad someone did it to show you don't have to pay a premium. I appreciate you doing the cost breakdown, I did one of those myself and ended up with a very similar conclusion.
I think you did a great job creating this here video. Not only that you gave a thorough walk through on building one of these but you built it in the cheapest way possible. Great work!
Thank you for making this informative video! This tutorial creating a demo board formulates a substantial concept to encourage people getting into the hobby (or even parents) how to build something so basic, they shouldn’t have to buy something that’s been pre-built and save some extra money building something in their own hands. Looking back at my MS-2 demo board I own (bigger demo board lol), I’m very positive creating a system like that is also very inexpensive to build ($400-$700 if a panel or the board w/power supply is included)
I’m not into fire alarms as much as I once was anymore, but I remember back when I was like 12 I made a board with a BG-12, a Commander 2, and basic supplies I had at home with nothing but a simple CZcams tutorial. It’s insane what kids are charging for these.
This was an informative video, and you've given me inspiration to possibly build a board of my own...at some point. I definitely have some of this stuff laying around...and the tools. The red painted 4x4 box looks really good!
Thank you so much!! I was panicking about how to afford one for my son. He's autistic and loves fire alarms and fire safety. He knows all of the brands, what everything does, and knows the different alarms by their sound. A demo board is all he has asked for for his 8th birthday. You broke down all of the steps and I can't thank you enough, because I was lost!
I wonder what that little plastic thing you used for the pullstation wiring is called and some of the specifics on putting the wires in, I do notice how the wire goes in, but it's kinda hard to tell which ones are being connected together. I've always wondered how people provided power for the pull station in that kind of testing setup
Thank you for posting this! My son is 4 years old and obsessed with fire alarms. I know nothing about them, but am going to try and build this for him for Christmas. Couple questions Are the handy boxes sizes standard? I think I have a wall adapter charger for other equipment, does it matter if it's 12V vs. 24?
Handy boxes come in different sizes. For pull stations, look for the single gang one shown in the video and for alarm devices look for a 4x4 square box. The voltage depends on the alarm, 12 volts will usually be fine for Joey devices
I am wondering on how to also wire up a 24vdc relay to my board. ive bought just a simple relay 14 pin. and curious on how to use it. or any way of adding an audible silence or just a silence switch in general.
I might make one of these myself at some point, despite the fact that I have an MS-2 running a working system in my room. And did anyone notice the 270-SPO and the EST horn/strobe (or speaker/strobe) at the beginning???
I am trying to make one of these. Can you help me on how to make a latching relay? Basically when the pull station is reset the alarm still sounds until i reset it. Thx
Quick question, do you know what handy box size would fit a Silent Knight PS-DA Pull station? I can't find out online, so I went to the only other person I knew who knows fire alarms.
I have a question: my strobe/siren goes off wether the pull station is activated or not. Its wired through the call points and Ive tried a couple different pull stations and they all do the same thing. Any ideas why?
The annoying thing about that is, notice how he was offering only very specific choices of devices? He definitely got those for like $5 per somewhere in bulk.
They likely do, but always check the listing to be sure if you’re buying a used one from eBay. Otherwise those keys are sold for just a few dollars separately.
Let’s not hate anybody..to be fair you are paying for labor and a service. 50 dollars would be way too cheap after shipping. Like I said, this video is not to call anyone out. It’s to encourage people to build things themselves and learn something.
@@ironmatic1I mean, I wouldn’t ever discourage someone from using one because they are undoubtedly inherently good but I certainly wouldn’t be too concerned using a table saw without one
The intention is not to target anyone. People are free to buy and sell what they want. At the same time though, I do think it’s important for people to develop skills and use creativity to build things themselves instead of purchasing pre made goods for excessive prices.
@@FireAlarmDude5967 I'll call it "weird timing" then. I appreciate the comment and how you're defending S.E.R. Also, thanks for the help with this video. I'm planning on buying my own system and this will definitely help me with it!

Hi i love your videos
The seller of those boards uses the excuse of "I'm too busy" is really ridiculous.

great video appreciate the work. people need to stop trying to sell these boards for 300 - 500 dollars, huge ripoff.

Not sure. I’d recommend a simple 24 volt triggerable relay
Seems so much more reasonable than having to spend hundreds of dollars on boards

You need a triggerable relay. Bridge the common and normally open contacts to the pull station that wire the alarm through the relay

Single gang box

Thanks a bunch for putting this together. Now I've got to find an alarm that isn't insanely loud lol

my recommendation is a chime strobe

You’re probably wiring the call points wrong. The call point should be wired like a switch.
