Putting Kit Connor in Romeo and Juliet is ridiculous stunt casting by flagging Broadway again. They have done this already with Joe Locke, but he had a smallish part rather than the lead. By his own admission (look at the youtube clip of him and Joe in the back of a taxi), he is not musical theatre trained. Can he even sing? All we have heard is 4 seconds in Rocketman. Whilst lots of people will think this is good, I am thinking of the young musical theatre trained performers who won't get their break because they want to fill the theatre with a "man of the moment"
Looking at the three big roles he has taken post Heartstopper is also interesting; a straight heartthrob in A Recipe for Love (where he hooked up with his co star irl), a soldier in Warfare and now the straightest of all the straight parts ever written, Romeo. He is certainly trying to put anything LGBTQ behind him. In Heartstopper, he took a bi part in a show dedicated to casting authentically. If he were actually bi, particularly given all the off-screen drama, why would he not just have said it? This is particularly clear as logically the alternatives are 1) the show-runners lied about casting authentically or 2) he knew that they wanted to cast authentically (he said so in his Guardian interview), but he knew that the part would make him (as it has) so he was prepared to risk it anyway, hoping not too many questions would be asked...I know which one I think it was and I am amazed that the LGBTQ community at large remain so supportive of him. Will there be a huge backlash when the penny drops?

Whilst I do agree that Kit Connor as Romeo is quite shocking, there’s is still a real chance he can sing properly. And although it’s sucks new actors won’t get their break, maybe, because of him that’s just how the industry is. We have our big actors and choose them in most projects. And as far as his sexuality, it is a very meaningful thing and he probably wanted to come out on his own terms. And even if he was straight, saying he can’t play the role of Nick then does that mean all LGBTQ actors cannot play straight roles? Regardless I find it rude and strange to speculate one’s sexuality so it’s best if we leave this out of the conversation.

@@whatastinker I agree re first part. Of course LGBTQ actors can play straight roles. I am convinced that KC is straight anyway as I said.

He can sing and yes he is bi, he even said he had a big crush on hugh grant
just because he's been given straight roles doesnt mean he cant be bi
