    i've built 4 of these bikes and all of them will idle once warmed up. As far as break in thats a matter of a rich fuel/oil ratio and at 16 to 1 they still idle

    Cool beater bike, Rat Rod. Left side of the carb there is a screw idle adjustment, turn it clockwise to get an dle, turn more will increase the idle speed as desired.

      OK. been riding bikes since 1972. meaning i have been working/tuning them since then too. Know all about idle adjustment. These little motors are not that finely tuned. I'd rather use the throttle as it works for me. I was exaggerating the "blipping" for newbies....

      +Scott Thompson Raising and lowering the needle in the carb will help with your idle as well, but when new/breakin period you need to make sure to not run too lean and actually better to be on the rich end of the cycle during the process ..

I'd recommend as a daily, it has low end torque with an added 36t sprocket for your desired high end power. I've gone 40.9mph on the digital speedometer, I've only put around 130miles on the odo, runs like a champ!

    another tip for "breaking in" your new 2 stroke bikes...
    first, increase the oil to fuel mix by 10% of the ratio recommend by your engine's manufacturer, then follow these instructions...
    start your bike and allow to run at idle for 10 minutes, shut down and let cool for 30+ minutes,
    repeat this 4-5 more times.
    start your bike, ride for 10 minutes @ 50% power, shut down and let cool for 30+ minutes,
    start your bike, ride for 10 minutes @ 60%-70% power, shut down and let cool for 30+ minutes
    start your bike, ride for 10 minutes @ 80%-90% power, shut down and let cool for 30+ minutes
    empty your fuel tank, then make a new fuel/oil mix at the engine's recommended ratio
    start your bike and go all out (no more than 30mph) for 20 minutes, back it off to 50%-70% for 10 minutes and let cool for 30 minutes
    ¥
    if you intend on storing your bike for 60 days or more, remove the fuel from your tank, do NOT run it out of gas, fill your tank half way with high grade premium fuel, add a fuel stabilizer, but do NOT add oil to the fuel/stabilizer mix
    when you got to get your bike out of storage, fill the rest of the tank with high grade premium fuel and add the requisite amount of oil to the mix, run your motor @ idle for 10 minutes, shut down for 30+ minutes, then enjoy
    this along with reasonable maintenance about every 20-30 hours of operation and reasonable riding habits will give your bike a long life and many hours of operation and enjoyment !!!

  • @jackm6307
    @jackm6307 Před 6 lety

    My new 49cc won't start...can't even get it to fire in the slightest. It's a hybrid w/100w front hub electric, and I've ridden it a lot with the electric drive, popping the clutch and it just won't go. I've used starting fuel spray so that should rule out the carb for the moment because it still did nothing and should at least fire. I tested the plug spark with a sparky and it seemed fine so unless that spark can look ok and still not be up to par, I'm at a loss, and I've worked on small engines all my life lol.
    Any ideas? It's a cheap ebay kit but has great compression, so no good reason it shouldn't run. Anyone ever experienced a seemingly good spark, only to find replacing the coil solved the problem? That's all I can think of. Tried two carbs FWIW, so the chances of that being the issue are even more slim.

    • @HughesMotorized
      @HughesMotorized  Před 6 lety +1

    • @jackm6307
      @jackm6307 Před 6 lety

      Checked it again and now I'm getting no spark, which was good because I can now actually see their is a problem. If my testing it was correct, it was the CDI, so ordered this morning...we'll see. Fortunately they are cheap, even cheap enough to keep an extra of each on the bike. Thanks for your help.

    • @jackm6307
      @jackm6307 Před 6 lety

      It's working now. a year or so ago, mine was the cheapest 49cc kit on ebay but after posting here, I ordered an 80cc from Amazon after finding out they were the same size (tight fit) and I could probably get away with calling it a 49cc for required registration if Fl. That and just tired of messing with th 49cc. Added a pull start to the new one (2 actually, the first didn't work at all) pulled it up into my lap on the floor before mounting it and it started second pull. Installed and runs great.
      The price difference is probably due to them having come down in price in the last year and the less expensive one, as well as actually running, had a much nicer looking head on it. Just under $90 total for the better kit that came with a few other extras as well and got it pretty fast.
      Not all, but in many cases, when one buys the cheapest of anything on ebay, it's because it has known/undisclosed defects of some type or another. For this, it was at least a failing CDI. I think I can get the 49cc running eventually, but think the 80/66cc was a better choice. can't wait to go get groceries tomorrow so I can get used to it. and really try it out.
