When Dennis returned in more recent years, he informed Rita that Elsie and I think Bill Gregory still had died when their car plunged off a narrow road, and they were discovered holding hands 🥰 Yes, there was somewhat of a mass exodus in ‘83 - ‘84. Nice that Eddie popped back to visit Hilda in hospital in ‘87 after she was attacked at the Lowthers.

Bill Gregory ( about Albert) “ Is he always that cantankerous?” Bet “Nooo, some folk remember a day back in 1935 when he was known to smile. It were when Ena Sharples fell down cellar steps and broke ‘er arm.”
Apparently Uncle Albert's last appearance was in the 23rd of January episode with his last line of dialogue having him put down Hilda. This scene has been cut and I don't remember ever seeing it. Jack Howarth's name appears in the end credits though, as it does in the next episode. His last appearance is in the Rovers Return as he retires to he Snug with his rum, this is the same episode where Elsie leaves. Stan cracks me up in the bed being interviewed about his toe under guidence from Hilda. "The last time I was up that ladder"... Hilda nudges him. His face is s gem throughout.
Thanks for clarifying. I thought I had somehow missed Albert’s last line (according to Corrie fandom). Elsie, Bert, Albert and Len. All gone in a mighty swoop.
Eddie, Marion, Mrs W, Elsie Tanner, Uncle Albert, Poor Bert, Len, Stan…big loss. Elsie Tanner leaving is even more resonant knowing what we know now. She really was the Queen. What an absolute legend.
Correct : That scene was cut because Jack Howarth went on to choke agonizingly on his own breath, taking 11 minutes to finally die, his face having gone almost black, and soiling himself copiously. Rumours that long standing cast members pelted him with peanuts in his death throws have yet to be substantiated.
Always loved Elsie, her wardrobe was her own most of the time. Furs and silk...all on a factory machinist's wage too. 😊 I'm glad they gave her a happy ending with Bill.
Vintage Corrie had a charm all of its own: the dodgy sets (Rovers' front doors 😅) and the more-than-occasional boom microphone popping into view overhead...but it was miles better than the Crappola they produce today...
Big changes started to change corrie . Elsie, Eddie , Annie Len , and then stan just not the same after this.but thank you so much for these uploads . Much appreciated.
Bert, Len, Annie, Eddie, and very shortly Albert, and Elsie leaving, as well as Stan. So many great characters in such a short time. Fred Gee leaves later in the year, but never considered him one of the greats on the street. Never liked him.
Notice how the `random clock` that appeared in The Rovers above the Newton & Ridley mirror on the 4th Jan episode only lasted on that one show. The 11th Jan episode sees Fred serving in the bar and asking Mike what the time is with the clock very much absent !
I loved the character of Bert. He was the perfect husband for Ivy. Always able to reign her in when she started getting out of control. You knew she wore the trousers in the marriage, but she still listened to him. It was such a shame he died so young.
Last line of Elsie tanner “now there’s a question” I hoped Elsie enjoyed Portugal 🇵🇹, i love ❤️ the old ones of Corrie I remember as a teenager watching this episode thanks 🙏 for the upload
Didn’t know Bert’s funeral had already happened- ( by the end of January).People didn’t seem as bothered about that as Len’s. Seems like only the Tilsleys and Vera even went!
The end of the wonderful Elsie Tanner & Uncle Albert. Hot off the heels of Bert, Len, Eddie, Marion, Suzy and the marvellous Annie Walker. Such a turbulent time with several massive characters gone within months.
Jean Alexander was the strongest actor out of all of them ever. The houses and Rovers, in particular, are tardis' as they're way bigger inside that out - especial the "Select" function room that appears and disappears, and couldn't possibly be there without being on the road. I've been in the Rovers and it's tiny. The houses on the exterior set are only one storey and are costume & lighting stores and some are writers offices. They use wide angle lenses on the cameras to make it all look bigger than it really is. Behind the arch at the end of the street is a huge soundstage with all the interior sets within.
Ken supping beer in the Rover's... when was the last time we've seen that in regards to new Rover's? In fact, when was the last time we saw anyone supping pints in the Rover's?? Pints just sit there in front of the actors. Speaking of the Rover's, you'd be lucky to even see a scene taking place there. She's no longer the centre of the street. Sad. Now it's the Bistro, wine and fancy drinks.
Couldn't tell you. Anyone who watches a second of those woke nightmares that masquerade on telly now deserve all they get. Nothing but one long finger wagging lecture that are indistinguishable from the other.
You are so right. No one hangs out at the pub anymore. I used to love when it was crowded with various characters coming and going. The Rovers used to be the focal point. Now it feels like a dead zone.
After the past few years of Elsie misjudging mens' intentions towards her, and picking bad 'uns, it's brilliant to see someone attentive and totally head over heels in love with her the way Bill is. GO ELSIE!! ❤
I remember Len preaching to Eddie about overheads, when Eddie was asking for more money and one thing Len said was about the rent for the yard. He didn't own it.
Actually Rita mentions to Ken later on that she wishes to sell the remainder of the lease, so Len didn’t own it he merely owned a fixed term lease on the property so technically he was renting.
Terry Duckworth was amazing - i recon if he had spread himself out on the right casting couch he could have been whisked of to America and been the new James Dean - he should have been more ruthless and ambitious
Stan seemed chattier than he had been in a long time, still slightly infirm and not that good on his feet but he seemed to be more alert and talkative. Maybe now Eddie Yeats was gone, it gave Stan time to shine again. The actor hired a speech therapist after his stroke 8 years earlier but I do feel Eddie did overshadow Stan a bit.
Curly chucking tea over himself ☕️ getting all worked up about Terry cracks me up every time 😂 He’s not very menacing is he 😂 I read Kevin Kennedy wasn’t happy when EastEnders began cos he thought Lofty was a carbon copy of Curly!

2.54. Oo Woman Deirdre served in the shop before Hilda came in looked like Marji Campi ( who went on to play Dulcie Froggatt). An early appearance of the character?
