- I went to 3 caifan stalls and asked them to give me the most expensive plate of economy rice. Recently, economy rices seem to get so expensive that it's not economy anymore. How expensive can a caifan (economy rice) be? Let's find out.

BP: Black Pepper
Wow i never seen caifan with yam ring before, yam ring is usually tze char dish
Nowadays got frozen yam rings by supplier. Just buy and fry only for premium order
Food Village Takashimaya cai fan store also have. But it wasn't very yummy cause they already fried and place there hours ago. Soggy yam plus it wasn't cheap (IIRC that alone was $5)
If they failed to sell in the afternoon, might pass over to tze char store to refry n sell...
Food court 3rd floor Suntec City cai PNG stall has.
Ghib: ‘you wanna guess how much my cai fan cost?’
Auntie: ‘no’
😂😂😂
3 things that need to be illegal in Singapore
1.PMD on road
2.Ticket Scalping Bots
3.Cai fan above $10
1A. PMD with obnoxiously loud noise (which the rider considers music)
For cai fan, even 5 or 6 is illegal lol
@@winwinwin282828 6 dollar is give fine to the store, 10 dollar need send to jail
Caifan above 10 needs to have their name be legally changed to nasi padang.
Caifan above $10 is Cai Don
MBS Cai Fan = Casino Cai Fan. For winning casino fans.
Cai = 财 (Wealth)
Fan = 饭 (Rice)
If you get it from a Malaysian Chinese, it could be 猜饭 ... They always leave you guessing on the final price.
For MBS, even though its the most expensive, the colour and dish seems more premium.
5:13 That's the name of the cai fan stall at the MBS food court Rasapura. It's called Jia Jia Le Cuisine. It is also a cai fan chain like Chang Cheng featured in Stall 3. Jia Jia Le is well-known for being possibly the most expensive cai fan in Singapore, due to them having a large variety of food items that are specially priced and not part of the 2 vegetables + 1 meat set. Of course the location play a part in the cost, but even in other food courts in Singapore serving Jia Jia Le cai fan are expensive as well, with prices easily hitting $10 to $20+ price range.
That being said, even though their cai fan is expensive, it is also possibly the best tasting cai fan in Singapore with their food tasting consistently good and maintaining the quality control throughout all their chains. Some other cai fan chains might have food items that taste inconsistent, due to difference in skills of their chefs in different outlets, but for Jia Jia Le the taste is quite consistently maintained.
You turned economic rice into luxury rice XD
First class rice
This was a fun video haha! I enjoyed the style and jokes about getting most expensive economy rice. Nasi Padang is actually almost the same I guess but still can get expensive pretty quickly lol! Looking forward to more of this series. Also try to get the cheapest expensive something too doesn't have to be food though.
Fish in the 1st plate of caifan looks like Barramundi (金目鲈)
this is really refreshing concept with cool educational aspects, huge respect Ghib san!
Congrats ! Your best video so far in my humble honest opinion!
Wow, thanks!
ngl... the first plate seems ok given the size of the portions
This video looks more professional in all aspects. 👍👍👍
Even at $22, the first plate is a good deal. And no local would order that many dishes at any economy rice stall. Maybe repeat this challenge by ordering the same 2 meat, 2 vegetables from each stall?
Welcome Back. Ah so nice video
👍🌷💙🤍
Thank you 🤗
Cai fan prices depends on the location as well, aka stall rental price.
Chang Cheng outlets are quite standard, except Killiney branch.
Awesome series !!
awesome episode XD
Very interesting episode.
I think the fact that you're filming prevents any over charging that's unreasonable. You didn't go Vivo though, the cai fan stall in Vivo also infamous for being expensive.
Next time I'll go to caifan stall with a huge camera 😂
Kena before also, i just told them to put back the dish if im overcharged unreasonably. Just walk away if they refuse.
@@50ftbelow54Yes just walk away if you find the charges are unreasonable. Unfortunately though Singaporeans haven't learnt that boycotting is a powerful consumer weapon!!
Your first portion of Cai fan reminds me of the humongous portion of food in US.
LOL MBS cai fan is not cai fan already. You can go eat buffet at that price liao
The confused look from the stall seller are just priceless when you request for the most expensive.
I will suggest for an episode with ordering all the dishes from caifan stall and see how expensive will it gets to.. 😂
U should call the MBS $49 Cai Fan as Luxury Atas Fan or Imperial Gold Fan
It's not 菜饭 but 财饭 😂
Call it atas rice
Hahaha… haolian, well done 😂
I like this video man!! HAHA!!
Don’t understand why so many people complain about food prices when I bet many of them spend on things like Starbucks daily
Kenna conditioned by hype. For example, you eat KFC, how many chicken rice that price can buy? KFC raise prices like siao last few years and no one say anything (but like not many buy liao) but chicken rice raise price then people feel it
@@eymaslackerbcos chicken rice is a mass consumer food in comparison to KFC which may appeal mainly to younger people n children. The elderly seldom if ever eats KFC preferring local hawker delights.
That's braised PIG EARS, not pig intestines 😂
Nasi padang and Cai fang is different though 😅. Nasi padang the fish/beef/mutton can go up to 8-10 dollars.
This pricing is also in schools like Universities.
I love how you eat caifan with chopsticks 😂😂
Japanese basically find using fork and spoon weird
Wooops 😆
You got it wrong ohjisan. When people said it expensive it included vegetables. For example expensive 2 vegetables plus a meat could total up to 7 dollar to 20 dollar while normal price range is around 3.6 to 5 dollar
Did u try the chendol without red beans at Geylang Serai market?
Hahaha i like the encounter with the mbs sampan bro.
He’s the best!!
You should order by splitting into separate plates with a few side dishes, if you are checking on the social media "complaints". Sometimes, the "markup" comes about because the plate is served with rice as a "complete meal", and not because of the cumulative cost of the side dishes.
Time to try this with Nasi Padang stalls! Add meat, price can more than double from $4.50 to $10!
Broooooo what's the address of the stalls? I never seen yam ring at caifan stalls before!
Should do one about the most expensive thing you can find at a pasar malam or ramadan bazaar
ngl i always wanted to do this. Thanks Ghib for fulfilling my dream hahaha XD
You’re welcome 🤣
Well everything had been getting more and more expensive over the years. When I started working around 25 year ago, Cai Fan used to cost $2 for 4 dishes in Golden Shoe Foodcourt in Raffles place. Ghib cai fan dish, my estimation was quite close before he reveal the price as type of dish and location can sometime give the estimate before even ordering.
Welcome back to Toa Payoh !
Love it here!🥰
you should call this Inflation Rice
You are so enjoyable to watch esp when u speak Singlish.
Tbf, 22 dollars for the first plate of caifan looks great and worth it's price, considering the amount and variety of the food!!
@11:20 The Cai Fan Uncle brain need some time to digest what you just ask him 🤣
Malay stalls are closed as it is the fasting month of Ramadhan.
did you manage to finish all the caifans??
Where is the first location of that cai fun store? I’ve nv see yam ring in cai fun b4. Eager to try out as I like yam ring a lot. Please disclose the location. Appreciate that.
toa payoh lorong 7 kim keat palm food centre there blk 18 coffee shop
Blk 23 Hougang ave 3 coffee shop cai png stall also have but not everyday .
Thank you for both of your reply.
takashimaya food court caifan stall also offers yam ring : )
Suntec City Mall level 3 food court TungLuk Cai Png stall also sells yam rings but not everyday.
upgraded to business rice and first rice
Normal lunch prices in Australia
Seriously a NAUGHTY JAPANESE......🤭😲🤣
Nobody buys that much food, usually 2 - 3 items. Except you and me. lol Once in Singapore I went to a Nasi xxx stall and was charged way more than the person in front of me. No prices were displayed so I didn't know what it was going to cost. I said "is this the tourist price?" The woman said "No, you just eat too much expensive food." Hahaha!
Can you do a video explaining the different Nasi names? Nasi Kandar, Nasi Padang, Nasi Campur, Nasi xxxx?? I've seen all different names, but looks like the same type of food service?
you should come to bedok cai fan, its very nice, my mom always go there to get her cai fan. Its at Blk 59 new upper changi rd, detian coffeeshop.
you lived every working adult's dream
什菜饭 is read as zha cai 饭。 not ‘Shen‘ & for comparing, maybe you can buy similar dishes at different stalls.
To eat budget cai fan with a balance diet...one meat, one vege will keep u full
I died when you said "walao" at 3:02 HAHAHA
Plates 2 and 3 can't even see the rice any more. This is more reflective of the stall owners' stacking and piling skills!
0:43 According to wikidictionary 什 is used as an alternative to 杂 in this case, so it should be za cai fan, which i think thats how everyone calls caifan in full. Probably because in dialects the two characters have the same sound and this is easier to write.
Work hard until you can easily say "不要菜 because cheap" at Cai Fan stalls 🤣
This is insignificant, but in case you are really interested in learning Chinese, the word “什” is one of those annoying words with multiple phonological readings. In this case (of the name of the caifan store), it will be [shí] from 什锦[shí jǐn] (which means "variety", thus in Singapore Hokkien we call chap chai peng - variety dish rice. It came from this word) not the more commonly known [shén] from 什么[shén me] which simply means "what". :D
Having the cai png from parkway now, didn’t know is expensive. 😅
cai fan in food courts are expensive
lol do you throw all the food away after filmiing?
The first shop avoid if you want really economic. Anyhow charge one.
Yam ring in cai fun stall is mvp
Can i please have the address of the cai fan with yam ring?
Oh and i really enjoyed this video! It'll probably be really fun if we start a segment on guess how much my caifan is? 😂😂😂
Block 18 Toa Payoh Lorong 7
Do you taobao those cai fan for dinner?
How do you taste food when everything is dumped on a plate? Yada ne.
The second stall you visited should name Atas Premium Cai Fan!
😆😅😂
Should try Hundred Grains at Asia Square. Self-service cai fan, super expensive and portion only half of what you get at MBS
The one at the parkway parade is exactly the same Cai fan stall as Waterway Point.
Please try the one at OnePunggol, it's amazing!
And Ocean Curry Fish Head Cai Fan at 128 Bedok North Street 2, Singapore 460128
You should go to SGH's koufu. 2 meat 1 veg and 1 noodle for $8.80 with small portion sizes.
Koufu is now well known for their expensive food alresdy XD
Hi Ghib..where is the location of the first stall?
toa payoh lorong 7 kim keat palm food centre there blk 18 coffee shop
@@rolandtan9302 thank you so much!
😮
U should do another video of cheapest caifan with veg & meat.
It won't have a limit if want to be expensive, I can order up to over $100 if I want.
patin is actually malaysian freshwater cat fish, ikan patin tempoyak you should try in malaysia
Hello, please check what did you ordered !
Nice video
0:42 😂
You want expensive just go to food Republic one lol
the chang cheng dish, i dont think thats pig intestines but pig ears. its very crunchy right? thats the ear cartilage
I am sure you are paying for what we ordered. It's a pity that you didn't get to order Sinar Pagi Nasi Padang. It will definitely be a bomb/ Perhaps even more expensive that MBS one
nice video ! it will be better if the woman can put the promfret in a separate plate for you. In Malaysia we call this mixed rice CHAP FAN instead of cai fan. I love watching your video !
Black pepper beef
Min bet at the MBS casino table is already $50 so $49 for so much food there is actually not expensive 😂
Ya very fan to watch
Thought you said no fish.. haha. 2 fish dishes in the 1st cai fan already.
You should order yourself instead of telling the owner you want it to be expensjve.. haha😅
The fact that u said I want the most expensive dish , in reality nobody says that usually it's buy what we see
Ryan who??? I didn't catch it. But anyway, I like ur new video style! Keep it coming! 😍
For $49 sgd i can eat at least 10 or 11 meal in most of the neighbourhood hawker center
Please do a most expensive Nasi Padang video :):):)
Why not try to get the most expensive ngoh hiang or wu xiang?
That is not pork intestine but pig's ear :D
I laughed when he said crispy for the "intestine"
Aiyo paiseh 🤣
BP fish, I think is black pepper fish.
How can never go to Ocean Cai Fan?
Agree totally but nice food thou. 😂
49 is so cheap!!!!! I wouldn't mind to pay that price for that amount of dish!
In Malaysia you can eat 7 times for this price but the quality still Singapore the best.
Luxury Cai Fan!
