So that money that you are claiming is yours, actually belongs to the next generation paying their SS. This cannot go on forever and SS will completely fail unless there are changes made and soon. The age to receive benefits will have to be raised to 70 and the option to take early benefits will have to be dropped. Even that won’t save SS, it will only add another decade or so to it. SS was never meant to help the people, it was always an extra tax that the federal government could use as it wished. Why do you think the age to receive benefits was beyond the average lifespan? The government never intended to pay out all of the money. They just didn’t realize that with advances in medicine/medical treatments and better personal habits, people would live longer.
