I'm blown away! Some fans say in blogs that DMB "grew and developed into an amazing band." But seeing this video which is by the way the earliest performance I've ever seen by DMB, speaks volumes of a sound and talent that can NOT be unrated nor denied. No wonder they had such a following. I'd follow them too. Also, it's a sight to see the 'brothers' pre-dreadlock days and Dave donning his afro. Go Soul Brother! This band WAS "formed from the hands of Angels and trickled into the ground..."
Boyd's solo is absolutely unbelievable - smooth and gorgeous. And, obviously, Roi rocks it. I was so lucky to hear a partial back in 2003... I hope I get to hear this at one of my shows this year!
Good memories. I lived in Richmond from 1992-1997 and saw DMB at the Flood zone and TRAX in Charlottesville. They were so awesome and very accessible-- they were playing all over VA at the time, but we all knew that we were watching something big unfold....
Everyone's commented on this saying how good each person's performance is... this is what makes this version so special. they're all working together and are doing it so well... beautiful.
i agree. This is my favorite song from all of Dave Matthews' work. I believe this was the second song of his i ever heard and it took me years just to find the title of it. I'm so glad I found this video. :)
thank god for youtube ive found some indescribable music from dave that i never would of heard without help from u and others that have videos of daves rarer music which is some of the best thank you so much for posting
Blue Water is one of the band best and most underrated songs they have written..... I was lucky enough to get a few minutes of it 4th row at the Vanderbuilt Stadium in Nashville. Unreal
@@derekdeakin175 that's so awesome! I went solo and met up with a great group of folks, Brynn is the one I remember. So many memories in such a short period of time.
Yes it is, and it was named by Fenton Williams. Fenton put that name down. Dave has even called the song that. There is a radio broadcast from the early 90s of him talking about how he loved the name Baboon Farm. Also, if you listen to the most popular version of Heathcliff's, Dave says that the song has no name, and if anyone hears any words they like to go back and tell Fenton it for suggestions. Both names were Fenton's ideas.

wow what a jam. love all the people just wondering around in front. Bet you couldn't do that at a dave show for much longer, and definitely not after 95. lucky bastards
There is one Warehouse CD with a partial from 01 I believe right before JTR as they did back then. Easily the best version of JTR out there and that intro is just sick.
We were so young....
Great song. Great Dave.
This version is priceless. I've probably listened to it 100 times.
I love the huge crescendo in this one. Can somebody get Dave a bigger shirt though?
BEST version of this song. Love it all these years later.
Madly in love with this.
Such an emotional frigging song. I love how Peter Greisar is there, a real throwback. They need to bring this song back!!
i feel that the audience knows they are watching something special, something thats going to be big.
Boyd's greatest moment ever.
He really crushes on Lie in our Graves at Rockpalast
What tha F... Great, great song, I´m speechless.
DMB in the early to mid 90s was so good. I especially loved when they had the digital piano sound behind them

Beautiful. Simply beautiful. So pure they sound and Dave's voice, my gosh. Boyd makes me want to relearn the violin all over again.
This is incredible, classic old school DMB. Great sound, Jam and closure, just awesome.

One day its gonna happen Blue Water will return in full. What I would do to be there.......its so epic.
What an amazing song. I can't believe they never recorded it on an album and barely ever played it.
All. Time. Favorite. Have listened to this recording or another for decades.

Love this....so timeless...and haunting.

Can't believe I missed this. Incredible. Chills watching Boyd. Wow.
It's full name is Blue Water Baboon Farm (named by Fenton, like Heathcliff's Haiku Warriors).
thank god for youtube

Walking by a river I
Reach my hands to cup the sky
Run down my arms
A bitter blue
Turn to red and
The gashes grew
The river taste me I am
So much more then I have ever been
Oh, oh, oh, oh
Take this my arms
Take this my eyes
That this my mouth and all this
Seems to be completely true
***Liars and witches
And the vision became you !
Minus the 90's haircuts and wardrobe selections, this is an amazing find for the DMB fan.
