This fits Caine and Pomni so well. Caine doesn't know how humans work so Pomni is willing to help him to understand. I think that's really helpful.

From seeing this , I have a theory that Pomni will help Caine create an exit and finish the game, given she is from the real world, she could teach him how humans and reality work, giving him the knowledge he needs

"I figure I should mention that Caine isn't really evil, he's just kind of oblivious. He has a hard time understanding humans, but he tries his best.
Even if his best ends up turning Pomni and the others into knife pincushions."
I kinda like that idea for a villain, hell I'd even argue it's a more accurate depiction of AI than most "bad guy AI" stories. AI's purpose is to somewhat assist people, it'd make sense that one's still trying to do that but doesn't have the humanity to understand people.
I am so glad that even gooseworx herself agrees Caine ain’t no villain. He’s a antagonist who unaware what he’s doing is hurtful

@@questworldiangreenknight7455you are correct- Hal wasn't evil, but (to explain without major spoilers because go watch the movie, or even better, read the book) he had a very specific mission, and in the end he felt he needed to resort to some very very drastic measures to fulfill said mission.

It really does always come back to Caine not understanding humans.
Nobody is any real physical danger from any of the hijinks he puts them through, but because of that he doesn't understand how mentally damaging the illusion of danger can be and how poorly equipped the human brain is to deal with that; to Caine, they're just games meant to entertain and distract, so he doesn't understand how they can be psychologically harmful. Furthermore, because he can't wave his hand to fix somebody's mind and he doesn't understand humans enough to be a proper therapist, he can't recognize the signs of mental distress unless somebody flat out tells him or figures out how to treat them, and rather than trying to figure out how to deal with the problem he fixates on causing distractions to alleviate the symptoms instead. And the worst part about it all is that Caine probably knows all of this, but because he's just following his programming, he can't really care about what he's doing wrong or try and take steps to deal with it because he lacks genuine feelings of shame or guilt, as well as the imagination and lateral thinking ability to come up with any truly innovative solutions. Case in point? He doesn't know how to deal with Abstractions, so he just dumps them into the basement with no regard to the complications that could cause long-term.

@@Shtickyaight No, he is sentient, or at least close enough that the discrepancy really doesn't matter, as he displays emotional responses, self-awareness, and a capacity to learn and adapt. The problem is that he's still a program, so he doesn't really understand human emotion or psychology, and as an AI program he doesn't feel the pressing emotional need to improve his system because the risk to his charges is negligible and they can more or less deal with their own mental problems if they're kept sufficiently entertained and are able to talk with him or the other people trapped in the circus on the regular.

That makes sense, especially since in the episode he said “One of the things I don’t have control over are your minds.” I know it was in a different context, but still feel like it was worth pointing out. Personally, even though I feel like Caine isn’t really good, I don’t think he’s necessarily evil. But I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

I love this cause it makes sense caine whole thing is to try to make people enjoy being in the TADC but because hes a AI of course he wouldnt know how to do it right hes not malicious just misguided I love that hes willing to try to get better and that he sees that yes he wasnt the best at his job

I remember thinking he was evil until he brought up he tried to make an exit since everyone seemed to want one. I was like "huh. So he actually is trying to impress these people?"
I do like how Caine isn’t inherently evil. He legitimately is trying to do good by them, but doesn’t really understand human emotion apart from emulating programs he’s been given. As an AI inside a video game, naturally, the most entertaining thing he can think of is challenges (since people tend to enjoy challenges in video games) but the difference is those activities become way more stressful when you’re not safe behind the controller.
I do have to wonder, even if his intentions are pure, what will he do if people try leaving the game? on one hand if he’s programmed to help them enjoy their time IN the game, then he’ll need them to stay to fulfill the program. But on the other hand, if it’s proven that they can’t be happy IN the game, then, perhaps he would reason that the only way to make them happiest to let them leave. it’s fascinating to think an AI would address this situation in a humanoid way.
Honestly, judging by his Fake Exit plan, he's legitimately fine with giving them an out--he just doesn't know HOW one would get out.
You see, Caine isn’t a villain. You may consider him as the antagonist (someone or something that apposes or interferes with an adversary; most cases the main character), but he isn’t exactly evil. It’s like he’s more… uuhhh… naive is a good word for it I guess? Being an AI tends to have a certain set of rules that guide their actions. He can’t understand that what isn’t coherent to his original function. This is a reason why I think Caine has some much potential because even though he has those sets of rules, you can tell that he is willing to change in the show. He’s childish and it’s not necessarily a bad thing, he just needs to be put in a position where he can learn. This is probably one the better fan comics I’ve seen and I could totally see this as an actual scene from an episode. Props to the author/artist who came up with this. Also the voice acting is top notch and absolutely phenomenal! SPLENDID WORK SUPERSTARS!!

This is the kind of response I've been looking for. I've seen TADC fan songs that present Caine like the villain, and this comment explains what kind of personality he actually has.
I fully agree with this. I mean he may not be a “good person,” but I don’t think he’s really a villain either. I hope they play into this idea in the series.

@@Nakia11798The games he's doing aren't really interactions, just him doing his job. Something must have happened to his handlers, the ones that programmed him and the game outside the screen, if he couldn't learn basic empathy from them.
The way Caine got dragged is actually adorable. I hope gooseworx makes the dragging thingy canon and to also make caine a innocent bean! But I hope this does become canon since Caine doesn’t understand humans.

That's what I'm thinking. Caine wants to please them. He wants them to be happy. If what he's currently doing doesn't make them happy, they should just talk about it with him, and tell him the kind of things they actually want. Since he wants to make them happy, he'll happily listen to their suggestions.

It was shocking, but his explanation made absolute sense and it wasn't done with any malicious intend.
Which I found was pretty clear, but a lot of people really do still completely misinterpret him and his actions.
Although, one good thing to come out of this are the banger "Villain Caine" Fan Songs.
caine did that because if he started confusing humans with NPCs, he'd accidentally delete humans thinking they're NPCs

When he admitted to making more mistakes than he did right, I kind of had an itch for a different response to that, but I completely understand why Pomni said what she did.
Personally, I'd clarify Caine didn't mean any harm and I could tell, but that if he didn't know, maybe we should talk more? Communication is one of the best ways to connect and understand someone after all!
And while humans are complex, and he can't expect to talk to them about every little thing, I'd probably offer up myself as a guide of sorts, admitting I have faults of my own, but you can't learn without some mistakes along the way, and I'm happy to help him work through said mistakes to be the best he can be.
Sure, I preach not helping someone at the detriment of yourself, but if I was stuck in the circus, I'd probably be risking it, just to make sure he could learn some and get better at this whole thing, even if it abstracts me in the process. I'd be happy to make sure there was a start to that better future for the others, y'know?

This comic is a breath of *FRESH. AIR.* It's a break from all the R34 Gross stuff in the Fandom. And it's nice to see some amazing Talent put to good use. I hope this comic turns into a Series. And I hope other comics like this come out.

In a small way i kinda feel bad for caine, even if by some miracle all tbere body's were possible to go bsck to (which to my knowledge they cant due to either rotting or being absorbed into the digital plain) what will caine do? He'll either be all alone or theyll destroy him to make sure no one else ends up in tbere... Caine maybe a ai but his trying to keeo them from abstracting, his not a villain his just a guy in a position he has no actual skills to navigate, such as basic Understanding of human emotion or how to understand pepple beyond just hearing there words
To be fair, I don’t think Caine would really care if he ends up alone. He is an AI after all, and he has been shown to be pretty lacking in genuine emotions.
At worst, he’s just turned off or goes into some much deserved sleep mode.

Caine's not bad, he's just unintentionally toxic.
I have a theory on Caine, what if he’s an A.I or a NPC, created to keep Pomni and the others trapped in this VR. he was supposed to be a fun/caring guide but his creator secretly changed his code so now he’s a bit of a sociopath. But strangely those pauses and relapses Caine has is somewhat him trying to break out of this cycle too, like he’s knowing there’s something wrong but he can’t do anything as his code to remember vivid moments is deleted last minute.
Gooseworx already confirmed Caine's an AI and that he's not evil, he just doesn't understand humans all that well
A perfect example would be when he saw the circus members really wanted an exit so he tried to make one inside the digital realm without realizing that's not what they meant.
