Hopefully they have pet insurance, that would've cut the costs SIGNIFICANTLY. Not every pet owner can afford it, but pet insurance can potentially save you thousands of dollars if your beloved pet requires serious veterinary care for whatever reason like an injury or illness
My dog Makayla died and her hip her hip was killing her and she almost got ran over by a truck and someone saved her and it was one of my best friends. Very sad to see her passed away.
