I have to say that ludwig has one of the most recognizable tones in the drum industry. The funny thing is, most people were running from that old tone like crazy in the 80's. Ludwig was stubborn and did not change that much and it worked out for the most part in the end for them.
Please never stop making these!!! These are the best shallow shell sounds out there!! Let these kits be on the regular and not just a limited run please!!!
the 20 kick sound incredible. always loved the sound of a small punchy easily controlled kick. it sound way bigger than it is. easy to carry and setup. Ludwig and Paiste are drumming royalty.
The 12/13/16/24 setup sounds absolutely MASSIVE. Somehow even larger than the Bonham setup. Someone teach me how to tune my toms like that 😂 Gorgeous sounding drums all around!
The looks are just awesome the nicest looking ever. But what's even more important is of course the sound. Second to none. l 've been playing a custom ordered legacy maple for 54 years straight. All styles of music in America, South America and Europe. My drums never let me down .CONGRATS FOR BRINGING THESE BEAUTIFUL KITS BACK.
Your demo of the difference the edge makes in the drum's sound is the best I've seen online. Bravo! If I were looking for a new kit and didn't already own a Legacy Maple kit these would DEFINITELY be the ones I'd get.
These drums sound KILLER. Just beautiful. I love the sound of the rounded over bear edges. I CAN'T STAND 45 DEGREE BEARING EDGES. TOO MUCH CLACK IN THE ATTACK.... it's CLACK...then the actual sound of the drum shows up. Yecch! The ROUNDED edges sound SO much better....the tone is PURE...big, warm, full and clear. BRAVO DCP! You always knock it outta the park!
I loved the 12,13 16 configuration with that low tuning. OMG those toms sounded huge!! Is the firt time I love all the kick drums. I would even consider a 20. 👏👏👏👏well done

In my opinion Ludwig Classics the best drums, period. Well-built, great sounding whether tensioned low, medium or high, and they're priced is right. This is a magnificent set! (The 602s fit perfectly).
A) The angry voicemail callback was edited PERFECTLY. B) If someone doesn't hire that drummer at the beginning for a Zep tribute band -- or just send him out with Page and Plant while we still have them -- what a wasted opportunity. When he broke into the out fills of RnR, my eyes watered at how exactly he nailed it just like JB. Killin'!
When I was 13 in 1966, I owned a Ludwig Super Classic set in blue sparkle. What were the shells made from? Because of the white Reso-coat interior I couldn’t tell.
What an awesome set of drums! I do hear the difference between the two bearing edges. The rounded edge sounds great. The color choice is spot-on. I'd love to own a set of these, but it's not in the cards for me. I love your channel.
This is awesome to see! This Trapezoid Pearl (Delmar's term) pattern is FAR superior in appearance to the small-chip pattern Ludwig has been using. Happy that it's back. 😊
You have hit the absolute spot with this! Ludwig has missed the boat for years by not offering a rounded edge on the Classic Maple shell, in my opinion. That edge was used by Ludwig for decades and was a major part of the sound of the three-ply drums. The classic WMP and painted interiors are also a great touch.
I love all of it. Every size drum , snare, wrap, and the cymbals. I own a Ludwig Maple Classic ( Ringo kit) and this just gives me more inspiration to add on to that drum set. Amazing !

The fact that you can configure whatever set of sizes you want is the real kicker here. I prefer roundover bearing edges too, and yes the finish is sweet but the REAL need this is answering is the lack of configurable kits on the market. I'm on the hunt for 24x14/13/16/18 but I'm in Europe and the choices are much more limited if you don't want to spend an arm and a leg. Very little availability of additional toms or unconventional bass drum sizes here, would love to be able to order such kit from you. I'm sure doing this with ludwig will prove to be a great business decision, wish you luck, Shane!
I’m one of the many that bought a Maple Classic from you several years ago and still play it. Love the 70s round over edges. Might have to recut mine now!
Nice sound & look.....Lots of various configurations can be made from these which is VERY refreshing instead of the same old limited stock configurations you see nowadays....
These sound AMAZING!!! I love the extra low-end the rounded edges adds to the sound. They sound the way drums are supposed to in my opinion. But the extra details are a SUPER nice touch! They sound great! I have a set of Classic Maples that I will never sell but I honestly think with this bearing edge, they sound better. Of course, those snare drums, in particular, the all Brass Snare Drum sounds fantastic! Congrats on your relationship with Ludwig!
Still have mine from 1979. Bought new - went with blue oyster pearl finish - 13, 14, 16 in toms, supraphonic snare. Has that unique sound that gets lots of positive comments from people who hear it. But I like the Zildjian's better with it.
Hi from France dcp. Incredible sound ! Very good idea. For me the 20's is the more 70th one. Perhaps because of the coated heads. This drums increases with coateds. The room sound diserve this drums. Feels more natural and appropriate. Cheers
I started my Ludwig drum set with a 1966 0r 67 snare and then a floor tom a couple of years after, then in 1970 got my 20" bass drum with mounted 12" & 13" toms. They were Marine peal with white interiors and I LOVED them and kept them till 1980 when I bought another Ludwig power tom set that I never liked, as it sounded horrible compared to my old set. Just bought a huge Gretsch Catalina Maple set from you but I sure wish I had the money for these!!! They sure look and sound OUTSTANDING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Still like 14" depth bass drums Best! I love this!!! I grew up with this sound and the rounded bearing edge makes the sound so fat and satisfying. Less bite than the 45s, but I just can’t describe how much better it is to my ears. I have a 60s Ludwig set that I absolutely love, in many ways more than my newer Yamaha RCs, which speaks volumes. Much of that is because of the rounded bearing edge and some because of the 3 ply shell. Shane, you hit a grand slam with these! Great ideas with the bearing edges, white interior, and even the badges. Wow!
Excellent idea to do the 70s era white marine pearl, it's beautiful! And the round over edges do make a difference that I can appreciate. I have a Ludwig Classic maple kit with round over edges in Rose Marine Pearl in sizes 13-16-18-24, with 5 and 6.5 matching classic maple snares. So, of course I love what you are doing!
Another great video! Really appreciated the bits where you demonstrated the difference in sound due to the bearing edges. It's subtle, but it's definitely there. Something I think might make for an interesting video is one that highlights the impact that different types mounts have on the sound. For example, you could demonstrate the same (or at least very similar) drum(s) with different types of mounts, including a stand, resonance mount, and a mount drilled right into the shell.

Terrific sounding drums. I like the round edge sound of the toms, and the sound of the brass and the nobly cooley snare drum. I always appreciate how you review the drum gear that is coming out. I hear tha DW bought the Slingerland rights from Gibson, If this is true I can't wait for those drums to return I had a 1970 BuddyRich model set which sounded great. It"s the one with the Niles badge on it. Keep up the good work that you guys do.
The 18” floor Tom is 18x16, not 18x18. I was still a bit groggy during the editing process 🥂

Mahogany and poplar. They switched to maple in 69. some kits in 1968 were a combo of mahogany poplar and maple during that transition year.
From ‘60-‘67 Ludwig used a 3-ply mahogany-poplar-mahogany shell. I bet they sounded great!

Loved the 26,14,16,18 with the room mics. Really close to my 70' 3 ply 26,15,18,20. If I sell these I would buy this kit.
Not typically the biggest ludwig fan, but holy cow!!! Love them!!! That roundover with those shells is a winner for sure!!!
