  • Very basic tutorial on how to quickly make ear frames.
1st: draw our your ear shape using thick construction paper. usually helps to have a manikin or dummy for this step.
be sure to slightly curve the ear so it maintains its shape and can stand on the hood of the head
2nd: trace your shape onto the fosshape usually the thicker 600 is easier for larger sized ears. then cut out 2 ears.
3rd: use a heat gun on low to apply gentle heat on both sides to start stiffening the ears and keep flat.
4th: starting from the inside apply more heat while using the table to curve the ears.
5th: Now you are done and ready to start patterning OR you can put 1" foam on the back of the ears to build up the curvature or start patterning for fur.
    MATERIALS:
    construction paper
    marker
    scissors
heat gun (can be found at any hardware store)

I use fosshape as well! I'm hoping to upload a video soon on my eventual suit- made the whole head base with fosshape haha, it's like a perfect foam and resin hybrid!

As the father of FOSSHAPE.... just wanted to say I enjoyed...... WELL DONE You worked slowly and methodically and made note of not using the high heat setting. Fabric or costumer steamers work great as well, but not everyone has one.

thank you so much! glad you enjoyed the quick video. still learning about recording and wish i had a program to add text making it easier to explain the technique and product. I plan to hold a panel this weekend about multiple different thermo materials and how to work with them.

Thankyou so much for this! I'm just redoing some Fosshape ear bases I attempted the other week and it's great actually having a video tutorial available this time, nutting it out alone the first time especially during the heating part was tough Haha!

Does this stuff crease or deform if you were to say bend it 180 degrees onto itself? (after you for it). Can it be washed without issues?

just wondering do you glue the ears to the elastic straps or leave them loose and if you leave them loose then how the hell do the ears stay on!!!!!!!
