Gas mileage would be a lot higher if u had to go shopping every 5 min- this is a great set up

Very nice set up! I'm quickly outgrowing my 4 door Jeep Wrangler.

Outgrowing is a good thing! There's a lot of possibilities on how to build out a vehicle and Kevin really laid out a good design here!

I was using a wifes old Buick rainer, then went to Nissan NV200 for a year until I bought this truck. I should have purchased this instead of the NV200 but I liked the gas mileage and small size of the NV200. Now I need to sell it.

Great setup! I've been looking into a u-haul truck as oppose to a cargo van...

I looked at cargo vans quite bit before buying this rig. However I liked that it was a box and much easier to build out. Also it is a 1 ton truck for towing compared to most cargo vans which are not. If you can find one go for it!

I agree! Kevin did a fantastic job and the layout is on point for the tools you need most often!

Yes, I agree! I love how everything you need most often is toward the rear of the van!

Did he refer to his miter saw as a "7" skill saw on a table saw on a roller"? The outside looks clean and professional.

@Kyle-ev4fk Haha! yeah how do you like that jiberish? Supposed to say 7.5" sliding miter saw on a rolling cart.

As one who retired from a 22-year desk career because I miss working with my hands and am noodling a handyman business, s few takeaways from this influence my thinking the most:
    1. At some point I'm going to get sick of towing my 12' cargo trailer. It's fine to start with that because initially I'll need to experiment with different jobs/offerings to figure out which ones I want to focus on. Until I've done some of that experimentation and decide on a few jobs I like best and a few I don't want to offer, I won't have even a slight idea of which tools I need to haul on a daily basis. So it's okay to experiment with the SUV and trailer I have now, but once I decide on a useful and reasonably consistent collection of tools and equipment to haul, I won't know what my build-out or vehicle should look like except to know I'll probably get sick of a cargo trailer.
    2. When it comes to box trucks, prioritize a low deck.
    3. I LOVE the idea of having all the power tools in arm's reach of the open door, and will copy that. My only concern is whether that will promote theft. I don't want to have to open and close my trailer's large back door every time I want to grab a power tool, but maybe I'll have to just accept that.
    4. Thanks so much for showing this fellow's bucket system, and thanks to him for mentioning the whole idea of hating packout systems that force him to open boxes to access his tools. I've been considering packout systems from Milwaukee to DeWalt etc., but each time I do, I think what a pain it'll be to stack and unstack and open them to search for the tool I need. I've stored backup or specialty tools in Rubbermaid totes for years and don't even like them because I have to lift each one's lid and scrounge through it to see what's in it. OTOH, I love buckets with pockets because I can see all the tools without lifting a lid or scrounging through them. I wish some manufacturer would offer a clear (see through) heavy duty tote with clear pockets inside.

@ritcheymt I have towed trailers my whole life, they do not bother me but I specialize in small -medium jobs. I didn't want the hassle of having to park a couple blocks away to find a spot and haul tools. I go back out to the truck 2-5 times per job so parking far away would be frustrating.
      - I am paranoid when it comes to tool theft. Guys get stuff stolen a lot around here, even at job sites. I do lock my roll up door EVERY time I need something. It is annoying and frustrating but the alternative is leaving lock off and loosing 5K worth of tools. When I had my NV200 tools were inside and just used my key FOB which was much easier. That being said dropping the large door would drive me crazy on a trailer. I would cut in a man door on the side of the trailer for access instead.
      - Huge fan of the tool bucket, the thing is I do not need clear pockets, all the tools pretty much poke out of the pockets. That and each tool has a home, so I basically can grab a tool without even looking at the bucket at this point. Been using same bag for 6 years but its time to replace it. Seen better days. Thanks for checking out the video!

I looked up 10’ trucks being sold by uhaul in my area. 2011’s they want about 14k for them. 130-160k

    • @dynamichandyman
      @dynamichandyman Před rokem +1

I bought the truck from a gal for 9K with 135K miles on it. I think she had bought from uhaul. The 10' disappear very quickly from uhaul as a lot of plumbing companies love them. I have yet to see one for sale on their site.

@@dynamichandyman that’s definitely interesting and something I have not considered. For me the holy grail is a KUV van or a tall and extended Transit 250 or Sprinter. They are around 65k new and I would probably bite the bullet if interest rates weren’t so high right now. My main concern would be having the truck not in service for repairs. It would be interesting to know if anybody has inside info on UHaul’s maintenance practices
