  • Ian's personal goal is to be able to do all the tasks on the flower farm by year 5, so this week - we are sending him to farm school! The farm is behind schedule and the countdown to the farmers market is only 1 day away. So Ian steps up to help harvest the cut flowers and arrange the bouquets. The only problem is that first he needs to learn how!

    This video really did a lot to show how difficult it is to make a great bouquet. Bravo, Ian, for trying so hard and committing to the cross training and support, in addition to everything else you do! You two have a beautiful partnership, and that isn't easy. The bouquets were beyond gorgeous, and so the market was too! No surprise there! I love your positive attitudes. The information gathering you do from year to year to use for future planning is just phenomenal. Super fantastic video!!!

    My favorite video thus far! Ian remember your efficiency will grow and knowledge will too. Be kind to yourself and remember that Serena’s guidance may feel overwhelming or critical at times but it comes from a place of been there done that. You’ll still have to go through the same struggles she overcame to get good at it. I grew my first bouquet flowers this year thinking how easy it would be to put one together and boy was I wrong. It’s such a learning curve. The cool thing is you have an abundance of flowers to experiment with.

  • @ecocentrichomestead6783
    @ecocentrichomestead6783 Před rokem +5

    It is good to point out the lack of speed during the learning curve.
    I was once installing tanks at an edible oils facility. It took 3 hours for the first one. One hour for the second one. One half hour each for the third and fourth!
    I had a job at an injection molding plant. There was a process where no one could keep up when they were new at it. But once learned, the same process seemed slow and boring!
    When farming/gardening we need to remember that we are slow in the learning curve. Speed will come automatically, we don't have to force it!

    Even if Ian does slightly more than half the cutting, you two will be further ahead.
    Might I suggest a chart for the cutting, knowing how the flowers grow during the season should help you both understand why certain flowers take longer to either cut or process.
    Right now, personally, I would be buying the "cut then dry" bouquets. Winter is drab, flowers that were once alive, but still beautiful dried will bring back memories.
    That could be a theme, if you want.

    I haven't been watching the channel for a while. And I notice an incredible progress. So nice to see it is going well!

    Good job, Ian. Keep going. Keep trying. When you cut your thuosandth flower or make your 100th bouquet, you will be an expert!
    I don't think it's bad for each of you to have your specialties. You each should know how to do everything though and keep in practice, just because of the nature of a family business.

    I love when Ian holds his bouquet of freshly picked cosmos the way that Serena does. It made my day!
