Snow: "Yes, I murder children... But I didn't murder THOSE children..."
As much as I loved Finnick's character, especially in the books...it was great writing to kill off a character that had so much more life to live. Real life rarely gives us a perfect happily ever after.
At least they left Haymitch alive 😣
Didn't the author eventually regretted killing off Finnick though? 😅
President Snow is my favorite main villain from any of these YA adaptation movie series. Donald Sutherland rules.
The next film is basically a Snow backstory. Very excited
Glad you really enjoyed this series and that it all worked for you. It's definitely peak for its genre of YA dystopias and it's great at the political thriller angle.
So much better than the Maze Runner and/or divergent or whatever their names were.

Remember the purpose of the books was to teach middle school students about politics and war. The stupid part was the manufactured love triangle because of the vampire books. Dumb Hollywood move.
The long wrap up at the end was done to show that war doesn't end for the people who have been in it.
Once you understand the purpose of the books it all makes sense.
For a while I thought that it was just a teen series, something just a little above Twilight. It turned out to be a really interesting story with fantastic cast, directing and strong writing with a subvertive but fitting ending.

If you're a reader or audiobook-listener, I can't recommend these books enough. They are some of my favorite of all time. I love that in the books we're inside Katniss's head and we get to see her falling in love with Peeta before she even realizes it. I'll usually share the final paragraph of the book (pre-epilogue) because it's beautiful and perfect, but for now I'll just summarize, essentially she explains why it was always going to be Peeta for her. She has enough fire herself, she doesn't need Gale's, she needs Peeta "the dandelion in the spring" and all the hope that comes with that.
These Audiobooks are fantastic
I highly recommend The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes as well. I think it’s the most well written of the series personally. I couldn’t stop listening once I started.
I was more upset about Finick's death than Prim's... Call me crazy...
Their is a prequel, the Ballard of songbirds and snakes,it focuses on snows rise to power and the early hunger games

I'm really appreciating these movies. When they first came out they were so spaced out I didn't get the full effect. Definitely better than I remember. Kinda want to read the books now.
Katniss is such an interesting character. She shouldn't be the leader of a revolution and yet the whole thing still makes sense. Love how it exposes so much about human nature especially the cruelty and manipulation of media and government machinations to generate fear and oppressive systems to prevent loss of power, etc. It's pretty incredible. And seeing it from her POV really helps put a lot in perspective.
It went from a battle royale story to a treatise on rebelling against fascism and the backlash when allies start fighting evil with evil and becoming the thing they abhor.
Interesting how often the wannabe people in power want others to do their dirty work and then try to take the prize for themselves and not share 🙄🤨😮💨
The audiobooks are great if you can’t do a paper book

I enjoyed the first three, but remember walking out of this one kinda underwhelmed, and I barely thought about these movies ever since. But I've seen a lot of recent praise for the whole series, and there's a prequel coming out, so I'm starting to feel a rewatch coming.
Please watch the prequel! I enjoy your insights and you need to have many more views than you have! The intro 😂

The ending Subversion twist with Snow at the end is maybe the best thing to come out of Mockingjay for me.
Idk but i feel like that twist couldve really fumbled the series ending if they didnt stick to Snow's consistent truthfulness with Katniss everdeen.
One major criticism I have with the "Battle Royale" genre and others like Hunger games/Squid Game is that they always turn into being about stopping the overall system running the games forever and it ends all foward momentum of the series When i all i want to see is more variations on the Battle Royale with different characters,different environments and situations.
Totally agree about GoW Ragnarok. It’s one of my favorite games of all time, but it’s clear they changed course and crammed too much into it. If they would’ve reworked GoW 2018 just a bit and expanded it, it could’ve worked as two games. But what I really think is they should’ve kept the original plan and just did a whole trilogy by the expanding the Ragnarok story just a bit.
