Friendly reminder: the armor suit itself also moves like a body, the suit actually reacts faster than the body does in the lore. This 1000 pound suit basically punches for you on top of your punch. Also Spartans often melee with the weapons they are holding, meaning A: they are hitting with a heavier object than their hand and B: the object is also significantly sturdier
tHANK YOU. WAS THINKING ABOUT THIS ALL VIDEO; and a lot of the beat downs are also with elbows as well
@Mbita Acoustic Guitar sure
Further on this line of thought, I'm pretty sure that in Halo lore, SPARTANs are only able to move like they do because of a neural-net-style Brain-to-Computer link. If that link is severed in any way (such as, say, a punch to the back of the head), the entire thing collapses on them and crushes the body inside.
@@thehellsage well sort of, all unsc personnel have the neural net implant and could theoretically operate the armor, Spartans are just the only ones with brains capable of handling the fact that the suit responds faster than your body to your thoughts, effectively if someone else uses it you just get the scene from marvel with Justin hammer trying to make an Ironman suit.
@@thehellsage the nerolink and the genetic augmentations in conjunction allow the S2s to use the armor they need bones, muscles, and ligaments that can withstand the forces exerted onto them via the armor.

Yeah, about that, as a Gen 2 Spartan, Master Chief doesn't have a *normal* skeleton, the bones are basically unbreakable, so he's able to hit like a freight train as much as he wants. Without the Skeleton enhancements, it'd be literally impossible to use Mjolnir armor, since the armor alone would kill you.

Still applicable for the Gen 7 multiplayer Spartans
Honestly a bad video to not know how the Spartan II Augmentation worked.
So basicly the rink from spiderman
Yeah about that….. Gen 2 Spartans have significantly more muscle mass than the peak human meaning it’s even harder to get through just the muscles
Here is just another thing to note; “While many of the astounding feats of strength and fortitude Chief performs in the Mark V can be accomplished by the player in Halo, there are several actions detailed in expanded lore that the player cannot replicate. Particularly, battling a huge Elite in hand-to-hand combat in space, sprinting at 66mph after taking a huge beating and surviving a frontal assault from a Hunter even after having his shields depleted by its fuel rod cannon are things that would instantly kill the player in the original game.”
If only we could actually SEE these things in game instead of being told they can do these things without any evidence to back it up. It has a real "my dad works at Nintendo but don't ask him" vibe to it

I remember reading somewhere in the Lore that while John and the other Spartan for training, they were put up against what amounts to a armored exosuit. From what I remember they were leaving dents and peeling away parts of the metal armor with their bare hands.
That was unarmored as children as I recall.
This might be his stupidest video.
This did happen but that is taking the shields out of the equation as the technology wasn't perfected yet
Yeah that was in fall of reach. The instructors needed the exo suits to not die
John tore the mini gun off of it and used it against them. They were originally making these killing machines to destroy human insurrections
@@mason7067 At least it's not as dumb as "The reason you die from a punch to the back is the suit short circuits and crushes you"
This is in line with the first ever canonical book written about halo, "The Fall of Reach", in which 14 year old Master Chief gets into a fight with several ODSTs (Navy Seals) and WITHOUT ARMOR shatters their bones and organs with every punch
It wasn't pure punches, it was some twisting of limbs and such
He did kill 2 and critically injured another, he also did all of that without breaking a sweat or raising his heart rate above 75 BPM

For reference to what he's saying.
Spartans are not human. Their super humans made in a lab. They have had everything done to make them virtually unstoppable on a battlefield. They are effectively apex human predators. Originally intended to hunt down and wipe out entire human armies called insurrectionist.
Spartans are weapons not normal humans. Especially Spartan 2s who where trained , educated and indoctrated from as young as age 6 to ignore injuries that would kill a normal . They where augmented at age 14 by which point prior to augmentation they all had the body and performance stats of an Olympic athlete. The augmentations enhanced them to the point that they could lift 3 times their body weight which is double a normal humans weight.
Chief as an adult is 394.6lbs. Without factoring for the substantial increase in strength due to adjusting to the augmentations. Chief can easily bench press 1,183.8 lbs . Accounting for his adapting to his augmentations and gym schedule when not in combat. Chief can lift about 6 times his weight easily or 2,367.6 lbs. The world record for bench press is 782 lbs . World record for Deadlift is 1,104.5 lbs. World record for squatting is 1,080 lbs.
Getting hit by Chief would be like being hit by a 3 to 4 ton fist sized object going 60 mph. If your luck you die on impact with his fist. If your unlucky and he holds back you spend the rest of your life in a wheelchair.

Game Theory: Halo Armor’s fatal Flaw.
I like this new take on this Theory!
I love all the focus on the Science behind the Theory!
I mean, it's called the science for a reason
@@brrrrrr science that's doesn't make you scream
another cool thing is concussions. basically its a bruised brain, and with the amount of force Chief uses it would most likley turn your brain to mush. Its a fatal flaw in the real world as well. take for instance the average football player. they usually suffer from concussion throughout their career even though they have protective helmets. this is due to there being space in-between our brain and scull. the sudden stop at the speed said persons head is moving will cause the brain to splat inside of the scull resulting in death. but thats just a theory, a fans theory on a game theory, sincerely Frotakun
I actually thought about it myself - the neural link likely has failsafes upon failsafes to prevent the armor from crushing the wearer.
That said, a hard enough hit will likely disrupt the connection, like, say, taking a punch from a six-foot-tall walking tank.
Such a hit would likely cause the armor to temporarily lock up in order to prevent said armor-crushing event.
And even if you survived, you'd still probably come away with a nasty concussion.
Taking two hits from another Spartan likely damages the connection enough to force a shutdown of the suit, effectively trapping the Spartan inside until someon can get them out.
I was boutta say didn’t they do this theory already
Here in Australia, one-punch kills, what we refer to as a "cowards punch", are a big thing, we even have PSA ads about them on TV

The worst apart this, however, is that John’s augmentations make his bones nearly indestructible to anything short of a tank shell, so even if he punches you without his armor, you’re still dying but his hands will be fine.

@@kharnthebetrayer8251 Out of the armor he seriously injured two big Ol ODSTs and killed the two others while in boxers. At the age of 14.
Keep in mind his bones without the armor would be fine if he punched full force. His bones are insanely strong from the augmentations
Not from what I recall. I recall the book series heavily implying that the armor is not only to protect the Spartans from their enemies, but protect them from themselves. They are able to generate far more force then their own bodies can handle, even with all the durability augmentations. So much force in fact that many assume Spartans are fused to their armor, when in reality its just a case that its easier to limit their own power in the suits and avoid hurting themselves.
The Spartains are augmented with their suits in mind, without them, their bodies can't handle the pressures.
basically, the augments are done to minimize the tendency for the suits to harm the occupant simply by moving too fast and with too much force for the human body inside to handle. the suit is directly linked to teh wearers brain, so it can move before the wearer's own body, and with far more strength, from mental commands rather than reacting the the wearers body movement. its more like wearing a second metallic layer of your body ontop of your fleshy layer, as apposed to wearing a separate shell around you.
TL;'DR
the suit basically does all the work, the Spartans just tell it what to do and are augmented to withstand/compliment its capabilities.
The punch wouldn’t crush chiefs hand because, according to the lore, their bones are enhanced with a ceramic covering as well so their bones are way stronger
That's actually is true
I mean, canonically, Chief in the Mk IV Armour has slapped a missile out of the air. A tomahawk missile travels at about 550mph, so his hand has to be moving at least as fast as that to intercept it and on top of that has to impart as much force as necessary to redirect it entirely.

Also if he is punching other spartans, their bones are the same, so I feel like it would hurt to try and break another spartan's bones that are equally as hard.
@@adamspeiser6449 Maybe, it’s hard to really know for sure, not that it matters anyways. The reason why a back smack is a one shot is because its a sneak attack, back in the pre reach games the medal was even called assassination.
@@adamspeiser6449 Theoretically if you're doing the punch in the back of the head, you wouldn't need to break the other spartan's bones to kill them, as it would be nerve damage that does it.
The other thing is the type of Spartan would determine it too. Chief is a Spartan II, and received all augmentations and was trained from six years old. Spartan IV's, the current generation, are plucked out of other branches of military, and receive minimal augmentations. They definitely do not have unbreakable bones.

He can punch wraith's apart with only a few punches, and in the books he punched a rocket out of the air. While not exactly punching power, Chief can survive a fall out of orbit.
A few things
1, matt pat a few years ago concluded that they die via the suit crushing them after their connection to the suit in the neck area breaks, so it would take way less force, as it wouldn't need to kill him, just to break the connection also breaking the sheild in the process
2, the suits forearms, and shoulders probably have a system similar to a mantis shrimp punch to increase his punching speed
3, the tank seems to more have an self righting system, less that cheif rights it
Remember the halo vid you all did about the spinel attachment in to the nerv system
I mean, just after his augmentation surgeries, some ODSTs were ordered to pick a fight with 117 as a test. Not yet knowing his own strength, he killed them. He killed them very badly. Like, he punched a guy in the chest so hard it caved in and stopped his heart. And that was without the power armor.
He was also like 15 years old
The elephant in halo 3 can be flipped, let’s assume that the nameless spartan you play as in multiplayer is at the same strength as chief because they punch with the same strength. The elephant weighs in at 205 tonnes, or 205000 kg. The amount of force needed to flip it is that times gravity (9.8 m/s2). If you multiply 9.8 by 205000, you get a grand amount of 2,009,000 newtons. FAR bigger than what you calculated, around 35 times it. He can break someones spine effortlessly.
Edit: I came back to this, and realized this is the energy need to hold the elephant in the air, so it'd be even more to get it in the air in the first place
Press x to flip ele... wait what!? How did you do that?

You should definitely do an entire episode on the science of the Hunters' biology and whether or not it would be possible for a colony to function in the manner that they do.
Master Chief hand wouldn't even break if he punched you because during the augmentation process every bone in his body is replaced with metal titanium. The book says their bones are completely Unbreakable
Which also makes their spine presumably take more force to break
Not replaced by titanium, coated in a titanium alloy. Your bones do a lot more than just act as structure, such as blood production, and replacing them would cause huge medical issues

Tell that to the covenant
A fun thing to note is that the sniper shoots a discarding sabot round, around 150 gram dart at 1350-1500 m/s.
The punch to the knees could possibly work due to the force of the punch "ricocheting" inside the armor, kinda the same way concussions hurt the brain. If you were to obliterate the large arteries that run through the legs then you die within a couple minutes cuz each heartbeat would just empty into nothing and wouldn't be sending any at all back to the heart
Technically speaking, you wouldn't need to break the bone. Causing any disruption in the neural link between the soldier and the armor may severely injure, if not kill them almost immediately. Matpat covered this a few years ago I believe, but he never went into detail about the specifics. Thank you for clearing some of this stuff up Austin! I think that was just a game theory analysis, like the actual youtube channel game theory
That makes the most sense, actually.
honestly? if i were to design an armor like this i would implement failsafes that on connection loss either freeze the armor in the current position it is or make it go into a basic T-pose (makes it easier to pry open for the recovery crew) and hold that position until connection is reestablished. doesnt change the fact that the wearer is essentially incapacitated by being stuck in an unmovable hunk of metal, but at least it doesnt kill them outright.

Nice to know Austin is back and is showing up in more videos

Wouldn't the Chief's suit punch be even stronger due to his fist containing the mass of the suit? Increase the mass, increase the force. And the suit itself makes him move much faster than normal, so increasing the acceleration of the punch should also be increasing the force significantly.
Well, to be fair they're not calculating how strong the punch is exactly, just how strong it would have to be to do what it does.
The suits makes Spartans stronger too. There's lore behind the suit about just normal marines trying it on but dying brutally as their arms, legs, hand, ect get crushed at high speeds by not being able to control the speed and strength of their own limbs.
I'd like to point out another interesting point. The extremely heavy armor uses a form of assisted motion. Basically, the suit is connected to the user through a neural interface which appears to be located in the back of the head and neck area. This interface reads the intended movement of the user and then directs the suit to match it. Disrupting that connection would render the user incapacitated as they would not be able to move the suit through brute force alone. So, if the spartan is hit hard enough in the proper area, they essentially become a brick and unable to fight until someone reconnects it.
czcams.com/video/66v5NZzgquI/video.html ...q
I'd like to point out that yes spartans can infact move in the suit even when it's not connected to the spartan neural interface. The SNI is located at the back of the skull and the helmet needs to be connected for a spartan to access the full abilitys of the suit, when not connected the suit doesn't move with the spartan and it no longer multiplies their strength yet George in reach is able to life another spartan fully of the ground with ease with out his helmet on and thus without assistance of any kind from the suit

Love the chiller tone
"O LAWD HE COMIN'" - I laughed way too hard at that.
I think your math at the end missed an important point: The weight of the armor.
Not sure if it would change all that much, but it seemed to me that you were continuing to use mass values based on standard human anatomy. You said it yourself, that suit brings his total weight to over 1,000 lbs - and a fair portion of one's bodyweight goes into a punch or jab as one turns their body toward their target. I believe that would change the math at least to some extent, though I couldn't say how much exactly.

Didn't MatPat already explain this with the fact, that the control module of the suit sits in the neck? Since not even a supersoldier can withstand an 1000kg heavy armor, they would be crushed by it, as soon as a punch kills the module
That’s what I was thinking
Yeah, I knew I remembered seeing it. It's 'halos fatal flaw' from 6 years ago.
The suit isn't just armour, it's an exoskeleton, the armour acts before the human body does, it gets the brain waves that the brain sends through the body before the body does, so it's the suit reinforcing the bodies abilities not just protecting it.
that was a lore explanation. this is more of a measurement/sciencey explanation
I still enjoy knowing how much power chief has
As someone who's studying physics the section on how much power the shield can sustain was really interesting to watch.
So glad Austin is back!
I laughed when you said he was recruited
That’s a very kind way of putting it XD
haha we don't talk about the kidnappings here
3:20 I love how the tone of his voice communicates the semi-realization that telling us "vertebrae" are what named "vertebrates" is basically redundant but he just kind of ignores it an includes it in the video anyway. Thank man 👍
2:07 more like Cyborg Aquiles without the heel weak point.
This makes me want an episode on Saitama one punch mans punch from Austin
So other versions of MJOLNER armor actually have different multiples, the highest reaching the point of Multiplying by 5. Cheif is also confirmed to be the physically strongest Spartan.
Mark VI Gen 1, he’s shown to be a lot stronger in Gen 3
im not sure where the physically strongest point comes from, out of the remaining living spartans, maybe, but there have been stronger spartans like sam or george, kurt may have also been stronger, but im not sure. Deadliest though is a yes
GrowlingScarab7 John is stronger than both Sam and George, the one that is stronger is Fred.
@@pedroaldrete2994 Sam was the strongest S-II, even Chief couldn't match him
@@growlingscarab7 it's actually more due to Halo 4 making him Peak of Human evolution. Yes, that's what the Librarian did.
Me: *remembering the suits had a jell layer that allows spartans to tank falling from orbit*
In the Hell-jumper comic, John was able to take out three (paralyzing one) ODST's one in the heart witch stopped it immediately and also took two blows to the face,
breaking it. As a 14 to 13-ish trainee! (Plus no armor) Comic says:
"He smacked them around like they we're sacks of meat instead of trained marines." They we're ODST's but still impressive.

This man fell from space and lived so I’d imagine a single punch would shatter all the bones in your body

Austin discussing Halo Infinite is great. God I'm glad when he uploads tbh
Yay another video from Austin! The only reason I watch game theory
Power Armour does NOT add power to your arm in a multiplication factor.
It simply replaces your punching power with that of the power armour.
"His punches could reach 300 mph"
So, theoretically, Master Chief could fight Crazy Diamond from Jojo Part 4 if his suit was a Stand.
Stand User: Cortana
Stand Name: Master Chief
Hi Austin,
Australian here. They count these single punch kills that usually happen at nightclubs etc and are also usually sucker punches from behind. I believe that it isn't the punch that kills them but usually their skull smashing into the concrete when they fall right after the single, knock out punch. Great video
Im super glad hes still part of this channel
Bruh you forgot that the fission rector in the suit is in the back and hitting it would kill the person almost instantly
actually, the force of the wearer of the mjolnir amor is not multiplied by 2, its multiplied by five ( it was said in the fall of reach movie)
Yeah I know this video is old but the multiplier increases with each generation as well. I believe the Gen 3 MK7 is a 8x multiplier, over the Gen 2s 6x and Gen 1s x5
His punches are even more terrifying when you consider that the suit doesn't double a the wearers strength, but multiplies it by a factor of 5. The suit is only limited to two times strength while the helmet is off. It gets worse the more one digs into the lore and does the calculations. Let's just say the fact that Atriox tanked a half dozen punches from Chief at the beginning of Halo Infinite to be an incredible feat of endurance and strength on his part.
Reminder that Atriox is just an ABSOLUTE UNIT
Also if I remember something about the Spartan suit from Matt's pet video on this is that there's a central control chip that's connected to a brain that if struck near will cause the suit to fail and crush the person inside
"Recruited" is a strong word
Austin, hello. Theory idea: how big does a Minecraft barrel or chest have to be and what are the effects?
Didn't MatPat already cover this entire topic, and more, in a video six years ago?
He looked at the weight of the Spartan armor and everything and did the same calculations, but concluded that the way the punch kill works isn't him basically punching your spinal cord into oblivion with a single punch that would shatter his own bones as well by punching faster than drag racers, its because he targets a weak point in the armor that keeps the weight of the armor breaking the wearer's neck on its own. Even looked into lore for evidence that's even possible, if I recall correctly.
Personally think that one was better, though this video was still a lot of fun to watch.
Wowww czcams.com/video/FSSFgWlDbJU/video.html
I like how when he starts talking about the spinal section the heart and lungs are connected to it plays the "camp Granada" song in the back ground
also I though the sniper rifle fired a 20mm round with APDS rounds.
9:12 "some sorta really stronk titanium" bruh.
This becomes progressively more comical when you know what swapping your reload and melee to your bumpers does.
Wait. This seems familiar...
In all seriousness, the armor's weight plays a big part in the added punch power. After all, a punch isn't as effective when you only use your arm. You use your whole body to get optimum force. And if your whole body is covered in armor...
But that's not the only thing. The back of the knee is a weak point for humans. The impact can damage the joints and render you immobile and unable to fight. But it gets darker, thanks to the armor. As the armor reacts faster than the body, it can end up causing even more harm. An injury that would normally cause some torn ligaments or tendons can now also cause fractures. Not to mention that it's fully possible for there to be internal bleeding, intense pain resulting in shock, or just the fact you're down on the ground and easy pickings. The devs probably just made things faster and called it a kill rather than forcing the player to wait for death. I mean, if you can disable an opponent like this and didn't kill them, that puts their team at a disadvantage.
"Australia actually tracks single punch deaths"
Excuse me, what?
one punch, man.
Competitively: If you can reach your opponent, it’s OP. Key words here being “ *if you can reach your opponent* “

I swear it was canon years ago in a book that he punches with 1000lbs of force
When he was first augmented yes. But he just improves and his armor allows even stronger punches.

You know some real heavy weight boxers can punch at least 1100lbs+ full force
3:12
Nobody:
Enemies in sword man vr when u play it 50 minutes:
couple things of note here.
Chief being able to kill someone with a punch totally checks out. it's known that not a few days after his augmentation Chief was thrown in a boxing ring against 3 ODST's, which are basically special forces soldiers, and proceeded to either kill or cripple all three men, bare handed.
On the subject of his skeletal structure, it was said somewhere that their bones where coated in basically ceramic Armour. so he could absolutely hit this hard. i even vaguely remember a book where Chief contemplates falling down a elevator shaft (with no Armour on) and thinks to himself that his bones would be fine, but all his organs would explode.
And as for the amours increase in physical properties it makes sense. after all, the testing they showed chief had them stick a soldier, presumably an ODST, in the Armour, and it was so powerful it proceeded to snap the poor guy in half with it's force. so yeah, it'd take chiefs already ridiculous physicality to a whole new level.
