You’re right: Ebenezer Scrooge would not have bought a new nightshirt unless it was to replace a _completely_ worn out one.
My thoughts exactly 😂
I also doubt he would have gone to such a fine tailor either. 'Bespoke' might not have been in his lexicon.
no doubt he also would've sold the rags lol
@@belagrolaub8746 Actually, the rags would have been scarfed up (pardon the pun) by the people who cleaned out his flat when he was visited by the Ghost of Christmas future. They were arguing over his 'bits and bobs' as the British say.
And maybe he even got a second hand one to replace the old one. ^^
The other day my sister and her boyfriend were making fun of me for watching A Muppet Christmas Carol because they think puppets are tacky. Absolute barbarism on their part.
*incoherent Dark Crystal and Labyrinth rage*
They are ADORABLE AND VERY FUNNY.
Wtf? They sound lame 😂
Introduce them to the episode that 'Cinema Therapy' did on this movie. They might have more respect for it then.
You don’t need that negativity in your life 😂
I'm sure that poor old wonky-hemmed bedsheet never dreamed it could one day be so elegant!
A Muppet Christmas Carol is the ONLY A Christmas Carol film adaptation, and I will die on that hill.
Same!
Have you seen Spirited, though? Not (very) period but delightful!
A local "art house" theater plays A Muppet Christmas Carol every year.
Diehard muppet fans and/or those who appreciate historical costumes can't have another favorite.
It’s a Christmas must for us. No other adaptation comes close
I love the silliness of continuing the video wearing the sheet like a ghost, fun is an essential part of the process
+
"mark that out with a pen because... sue me" this killed me, I feel this legit ALL the time when marking my patterns in anything but chalk.
A new video from Pinsent Tailoring is a Christmas miracle!
Ha ha.
Scissors cutting fabric on a wood table = BEST ASMR!!!!!!
Merry Bah! Humbug! to all, and to all a good nightshirt!
And the very same to you!
In pulling threads in that lovely old linen, you also pulled threads of memory in my besotted old brain (whiskey tonight, gin tomorrow) and I suddenly remembered seeing my grandmother, who was a dressmaker from the twenties onward, and my mother, doing just that, pulling threads. You warmed the cockles of my heart here in frigid Michigan, and may you make merry in your lovely nightshirt.
You're right! The Muppets made the absolute BEST adaptation of A Christmas Carol! Also, you never do know when you might be invited to a Regency themed pajama party! You might as well make it fancy!
"It's cold. It's winter. Leave me be" has such strong merch potential
this vid had much more dry humour in it than usual and i'm 1000% here for it
I bet the tailor's apprentice or the seamstress' daughters were assigned the tread pulling.
With the latest shorts from Our Favourite Gentleman, it is now evident that Our Favourite Gentleman is always so very self-possessed because He has his own Favourite Gentleman, with whom to share a remarkable life.
A Very Happy Christmas to You and Yours.
❤
From “A Christmas Carol” by Charles Dickens.
“Thus secured against surprise, he took off his cravat; put on his dressing-gown and slippers, and his night-cap; and sat down before the fire to take his gruel.”
“Scrooge closed the window, and examined the door by which the Ghost had entered. It was double-locked, as he had locked it with his own hands, and the bolts were undisturbed. He tried to say “Humbug!” but stopped at the first syllable. And being, from the emotion he had undergone, or the fatigues of the day, or his glimpse of the Invisible World, or the dull conversation of the Ghost, or the lateness of the hour, much in need of repose, went straight to bed without undressing, and fell asleep upon the instant.”
So, as one can see, Scrooge was not in a nightshirt as pictured by illustrations, but fully dressed.
Dickens was acutely aware of Victorian sensibilities. Describing a man disrobing further would be unforgivable. To remove a cravat and add slippers means Scrooge must also have removed his trousers (gasp) and possibly even his stockings (bigger gasp). Nightshirts were a new invention over the previously worn shirt as chemise for men. A clean shirt being donned every morning to be fresh for the day.
@@michellebyrom6551 Victorian sensibilities is one thing, but when a writer states something, he does not mean something else entirely. When Sherlock Holmes puts on his ratty dressing gown and slippers, he was not in a state of undress to a nightshirt. He was described with trousers and even with waistcoat. Living without central heating, it is a good idea to put a gown on after taking your coat off.
He always wears a nightshirt in the stage production!
@@widowrumstrypze9705 Because costume designers often base their designs off of earlier productions. In this case, the 1951 Alastair Sim version.
@@gravemarker of course writers use euphemisms and don't necessarily state things plainly
ok, now he's all set and ready for some snoo mimimis
Watching this like "damn I must need a new prescription in my glasses" then realized it was on the LOWEST quality settings. Phew. But also, how DARE my PC not immediately realize I can only view such delightful videos in the highest possible quality? I've always loved long night shirts - my father wore one every night during my childhood and they're just so cozy for lounge and sleep! You're a very dashing, Scrooge!
"So when I thought I would be saving time, it turns out, um... I won't be." I had to pause and wheeze with the laughter of someone who has BEEN THERE with so many sewing projects :')
I like how they would have a super narrow hem to save on fabric and then just add massive frills all over the finished garment 😂
Nightshirts are awesome, and they need to make a comeback!
The most entertaining part of the vid is 🥁
Zack losing his mind 🤩
Those boots are the stuff of dreams.
This is delightful fun! But I have a request: could we see how to make the nightcap?? (Or can you point us toward a video already extant?)
You’re hilarious 😂 respect for no hand sewing for this project! I’m definitely going to avoid it for the next couple of months. 😅
Oooh an asymmetrical hemline hitting the calf...😆 One man's garbage is another man's gusset! And I think "Bosom Slit" is the perfect name for a saucy chamber ensemble! Merry Christmas from Kentucky ❤️
“Mark out with a pen…sue me” I feel such validation in the method I too use.
i cant sew to save my life but i find these videos very informative
One thing I loved about you was that you do things by hand. It’s my favorite, seeing someone handsew. It’s “sew” beautiful when people do that, I feel.
I’m glad someone else think muppet Christmas carol is the best version of this story!
I laughed aloud so much when you went ghost mode lololol!
Merry Christmas Zach! And I agree the Muppets version is unsurpassed!
Threadpulling, or how to acquire the matching thread for the project. I'm so glad it's no longer essential.
Thread pulling is my life too. I won't cut out any fabric until I am positive I have the grain straight. I think the mass weaving industry has let standards slip and fabric is often skewed as its wound onto the bolt.
Whenever I buy fabric, it's if straight weave I always ask them to just rip it. It tears On Grain! Unlike cutting. I get the oddest looks from some staff members but that how you can tell who Knows their fabrics.
Genius. I just had to purchase via the internet and it was so bleeding wonky I had to change what I used it for because it was too short once squared up. Grrrrr
YAY pinsent tailoring upload days are my favorite :)
but also: i can see why he and bernadette are friends (04:03)
Please keep posting! You are a beautiful inspiration. A beacon of individuality and great style! Save the human race from synthetic sweatpants clothing and plastic puffer coats! Great instructional video. You are a Georgian prince. Thank you for your perseverance.
….Next, would love to see you dress as an historically accurate Preminger (from Princess and the Pauper)! ✨✨
I agree, th muppet a Christmas Carol is the best, my city's orchestra did a "live in concert" series where you go and watch the movie and they play all the music live. I enjoyed it so much and made me love the movie more than I already did.
Love the final Frodo citation ! ❤️
Agreed regarding Muppet Christmas Carol - one of the best films of all time.
I would love to see a collaboration between you and @erinparsonsmakeup It would be amazing to see how you both fashion historical makeup and tailoring.
I bought my husband’s first nightshirt a couple of years ago through Amazon. He loves it so much that I’m making him a cream colored one for him for Father’s Day. He definitely doesn’t care for the ruffles at all so I’ll leave them off.
Excellent and accurate LOTR reference. *chefs kiss* also fabulous gown, it turned out very well, the Muppets would be proud
Watching your sewing videos is such a delight. 🕯️😍💕💫
... there I was, fully expecting a Bernadette Banner-esque Herculean quest for authenticity, and out comes the sewing machine! I suppose the Harry Potter notebook should have given the game away earlier. I was mildly pertubed by the dearth of sleeve gussets - is that regency thing or purely lack of material???
I thought it looked like there were sleeve gussets - must go back and watch again now!
Oh the satisfying sound of the scissors cutting fabric, love your videos!
😄 "The Art of Doing Things" available at bookstores everywhere...
Such an incredible skill, and it doesn’t hurt that you’re remarkably cute!
You should of lived in the Century of your calling your love of that time is astounding but thankyou for bringing it to us it is very interesting you are a great tailor.
Lol at 15:20 you absolutely look like Scrooge!! 9/10 a fantastic depiction of Scrooge lol
We watch Muppet Christmas Carol every year too. :)
OMG YESSS.. I WANT ONE OF THESE FOR YEARS NOW :0 u inspired me to make my own.. thank u good sir
Also, remember that thread is wouned so the fibers are going in one direction twisted around each other and in the other being wouned outwardly. The thread being wouned into the thread is going to hold its twist longer than what the opposite direction will and will most likely break so you have to go hunting out the broken thread. if you are lucky when you get an inward wouned thread you might remove it all in one piece. You can test once you have an inch of two pulled by twillering it between your fingers. if it falls apart then you have the end rather than the beginning.
What can be seen in the candle light looks nice but I would have liked to actually see it even if only on a hanger or something.
"As someone whom lives in the past, 1934, i love to see people whom share my interest in historical clothes and way of life.
Every time I watch the Muppet Christmas Carol (indeed, it is the Most Superior Version Ever Made), I am always enchanted by Scrooge's nightcap. One of these years I will make the effort to get many screencaps of it so I can try to figure out how it was knitted, and then make one for myself. Someday.
Thank you for this delightful video!
This is wonderful!
The very best audio of 'A Christmas Carol' is the reading done by the former Dean of Canterbury, Robert Willis, and can be found of the Garden Congregation channel
Most charming Bedsheet Ghost in history ❤️😂👻
hooray!! a zak pinsent video!! moar, please!!!
stunning nightshirt, btw. we should all be wearing puffy-sleeved, voluminous nightshirts with frills on the collar.
Brilliant - nothing has made me want to have a live in tailor more …
I love your sewing videos I've seen interviews with you on other channels and I really enjoy watching your sewing videos! Actually, all of your content is inspiring and entertaining and educational thank you for being wonderful ❤!
So many movies about the Christmas carol that I've tried to watch. The best one is all of them especially the B/W one's.
Funny how "I thought I could save time with this shortcut" hardly ever does.
Wonderful project and video, thank you! Next you must make a wrapping gown to go with it for those extra frigid and spooky nights. B & T have a great pattern.. not that you’d need one but for those who might want to make their own… Cheers for a prosperous New Year!
Thanks for showing the thread pulling, I’ve never seen it demonstrated before
YOU ARE DELIGHTFUL!
A Zack Pinsent video! I loaded this then literally paused to make supper so I can watch undisturbed.
:Edit: Zack! I need sewing shears ASMR!
:Another Edit: you look like an Adorable spook.
Finally neck gussets make sense to me! Thank you!
I love the night shirt, it came out very nicely. I always wondered what it would feel like to sleep in one, maybe one day I would make myself one along with a pair of nigh slippers, as I too know how to sew and make footwear" also for hemming on your sewing machine faster, you should pick up a 1/8" (2.5mm) and a 1/4"(5mm) hemming foot for you machine, you'll zip through those hems.
Now I know what I'm doing with some of the old sheets I have! I have some regular shirts, but time for a nightshirt~
Your videos are getting better and better, but I've greatly enjoyed them all. Your sense of humor is just the best, and I can't help but to get the giggles at the silly bits. 😜
Mr Magoo rocked the role of Scrooge……..❤
Here, here!
Enjoyable as always. I rather like thread pulling, very satisfying to get that straight line.
The best Christmas Carol is the one starring George C. Scott as Scrooge. Hands down, no argument.
Me too my favourite version of Xmas coral
*seeing the opening w the sheet* OKURR ghost of Christmas !!!!
Really enjoyed your animated talk and appearance in this new video. I hope u make more vids with you in them, not just the sewing 😁
Muppets Christmas Carol is A+++.
So is your stitchery. Thank you for an excellent Christmas gift of a video
The muppet Christmas carol is my favorite adaptation too.
so happy to see your new video. You always entertain. My favourite Christmas Carol is the one with Alistair Sims - I've watched it every Christmas Eve for the past 50 years. I shall make a nightshirt for next year. Merry Christmas...
Love the Dickensian cigarette lighter! 🤣 (missed seeing Wilhelm)
Muppet Christmas Carol is on my CZcams Recommends
Okay, but 1970's musical Scrooge with Albert Finney will always be my favorite. Just putting that out there. There's some excellent sartorial content in it too, even if some of it is a bit 1970-flavored. Good nightshirt content.
Fantastic! I hope you will do more “making of” videos! Also, awesome silliness and joy! Hope you two have a very Merry Christmas!💚
What a delightful and informative video. It wouldn’t make any difference historically speaking to use a treadle machine rather than his electric machine as in Regency/Georgian times really didn’t have mechanical machines.
Bah! my good Tailor, That's a real Humbug of a Nightshirt!
Scrooge would have liked it. Perhaps even be buried in it.
And, it has no pockets to pick!
Merry Christmas my good Tailor,
It's not Christmas without Ebenezer Scrooge!
Bravo!
A new Zack Pinsent video! What a treat!
Applause, applause!
❄🌹❄Happy Winter Solstice Zack !!!
His sass just adds to his magnificence 🤣🤣
I was so happy to see you posted a video! What a wonderful project!
Priceless !!!!
Get's very Caravaggio at about 15.36. Pretty.
So THAT's the secret of gathering... I obsessively pleat things because even doing tiny tiny pleats is more sanity preserving than trying to gather...
I quite like the shirt at :30.
Evolution is wonderful. When I first bought the newly released DVD, (yes, it had the song with Belle. I don't know why the rumour that it did not. Maybe they mean the later releases in 2002 or 2012) I Took so much flack from the small minded for not only liking A Muppet Christmas Carol, but also loving it and showing it to all I knew. Now, there has been a collective evolution to the understanding the all around brilliance of that production. For me, it firstly sounded so odd to hear Kermit not being voiced by Jim Henson, as it was the first muppet movie after his death.
Night caps are a wonderful thing, that which, I don't understand the falling away from usage.
if you ever get a chance to come back to the states, please see if you can take the Henson studio tour. You get to see some of the costumes from the movies, including the muppets. I follow the Alternative branch of the companies and the improv troupe called Puppet Up. The puppeteers are really neat people and very on the ball with things like this. So I wouldnt be surprised if they've already seen this video.
Despite the tediousness of it, you showed why thread pulling is important and should be done.
This was delightful!
3:50 that's you as a baby
I was waiting for this comment 😂
I've been on tiktok just long enough that I got worried when you said "vintage" and followed it up with "machine stitching" 😅
