In this video I will go through players in the midfield position, and rank them in order of best to worst. Hopefully this discussion will help you decide which mid players to go for in your Gameweek 1 squad.

Jota kills me. When he’s available and playing he just bangs goals. And when I bring him in he gets hurt and misses half the season.
for me Son's a better pick than Saka for the following reasons:
- Son has the better opening fixtures
-Saka's mins in gw 1-2 may be reduced or he could even be rested
- Son was only 13 points behind Saka last season despite being at the Asia cup and only having 1 penalty.
-Son may be played as a no.9
- They are the same price this season
Nah it’s a close one Saka doesn’t matter fixtures for him bcz he plays in way better team and has had enough time to rest in my opinion and I don’t like son at the wing he’s scoring agaisnt mid teams in Asia right now at preseason

Counter arguments…
- Saka actually has better opening fixtures, WOL, AVL and TOT are weak defences
- Arteta has confirmed Saka is not going to be rested, he will start from GW1
- Son got a lot of his points when playing as a number 9
- Son is not expected to play as a number 9, currently Kulusevski is playing there in pre season whilst Spurs look to sign someone, or they will use Richarlison
- They are the same price… that I can agree with 🤣

In my humble opinion I still prefer Son:
saka had 5 penalties over son and also arsenal didn’t score in both legs vs villa last season
If I was forced to captain son or saka over the first few fixtures I’d pick sonny - can see more of an upside but appreciate the comment my man! 😁

Bowen at the back of the risky section i think is harsh! Not great fixtures but he's one of them players who seems capable of scoring against anybody!

If I'm not mistaken, Aston Villa bought at least 3 new left-wingers just this transfer window so I think Rogers should be a risky choice for his minutes play this season, they are also in UCL this year so rotation will definitely happen.

Really love the tier list vids! I think the issue with them doing well is they're not the best for casual viewers. But for us who watch all your vids, I feel like they're really good and useful. Of course this is your job so do what is best for you, but I really value these.

Nkunko isn't actually that injury prone, yes last season he was hit by injuries but his injury record before that wasn't that bad
Agreed, Nkunku is the one midfielder "must pick" in my team (him and Isak are the only must picks at all), I had Nkunku in my early drafts last year as a 7.5m fwd before he got injured and nothing has changed for this year (just he scores and extra point per goal and CS and costs 1m less).

@@FPLworm I put "Must pick" in quotes for that reason. Dan put Isak as a "must pick" and he, along with Nkunku are the 2 players I know will be in my week 1 team (barring injury) .
A player that could be crazy underrated is Kamada at 5.5, palace’s new signing. He got returns under glasner at his previous club and if eze is pushed out to the wing with kamada starting at CAM, there could be some serious points.

I would have Gibbs-White over Bailey for the first few GW’s and he is also on pens.
Palace fan here, kamada is the ultimate differential and gem midfield option for me. £1.5 million less than eze and will be playing in olises position.
And please do a defenders list! I’d really love to hear your thoughts on the left side of the Gunners back line. Calafiori, what a signing, but Gabriel, Calafiori, and Timber…. Something’s got to give. I’d love to know where you stand on this one.
Gabriel 95% nailed, other two will share minutes at left back, but likely to be Calafiori mostly

Keep going with the teirs lists. It isthe best formats to ensure that you cover more players than any other fpl channel out there. Not just talking about the obvious picks.
Kulesevski, playing as a false nine pre-season and carving it up, one to watch if he's had a positional change.
Hey Dan. Great video. Yes… I’m going to press you on this, bc I value your perspective. Where do you stand on our boy ESR if/when Fulham happens? At 5.5 he interests me. He likely walks into the first team, and ESR with a point to prove… I’ll be watching Fulham just to see him succeed.
Fixtures are great, but I think he might take a few weeks to get up to speed. He’s hardly played any minutes in the past 2 years!
I'm planning on Salah, Son, Palmer, Gordon, Eze no Haaland or Watkins. After 1st-2nd week may transfer in Bailey, Johnson, Nkunku etc ...

Do you not think the Gordon rumours to Liverpool heating up could cause him to have reduced minutes? If he goes to Liverpool he will be competing with Diaz! It’s a risk picking him surely until the window closes to assess?

Palmer is going to be super tricky. I agree is risky. He looks great, but expecting fewer penalties and maybe overperforming in the debut season...at that price, I would like a longe history of performance.

What about Martinelli. With Calafiori and potentially Merino balancing up the left side of the pitch he’s going to have so much more support.

This is probably a stupid question but isn't all this emphasis on 'expected' goals/assists well overblown? Surely it's mainly based on past games and there'll be a number of reasons why this expected performances will change in the future.

Is there a problem of having both palmer and nkunu in your formation as my midfield is (salah - Foden - Palmer - Nkunu - winks) so what's your opinion and whom should I change

Nkunku Sitting between Salah and Saka and ahead of most of the great picks is just ridiculous.

@@FPLMate I get this but we literally have zero idea where he will be playing or what role he will have while playing there, how safe are his minutes actually. How are chelsea as a team even going to look their form was all over the place season and haven't looked very good so far in preseason. He is at the very least a slight risk.
I'd love to know where these top performances in preseason have come from for Nkunku?
Watched both games & he's been as bad as the rest of the squad. Madueke has looked more of an overall threat.

I had Havertz in my draft until yesterday. I was his biggest fan last season BUT as a forward...
- One point fewer per goal (13 points last season)
- No clean sheets (16 points last season)

Rogers is a rotation risk. Bailey is more nailed, then you have philogene, iling Jr, buendia & heavy links to Joao Felix.

The issue with Salah is will we get the Salah from the first part of last season or did the 2nd half of last season show he is now declining?
up until the game with Newcastle on January 1st he had scored 14 goals and got 8 assists in 20 games but after returning from AFCON on 17th Feb he only contributed 4 goals plus 2 assists in 12 games
A goal involvement every 2 games is not worth the 12.5m it costs to get Salah

Scored over 200 points last season and only had couple penalties
Leicester first match and ok fixtures after that. Always seems to score v Arsenal, did twice last season.
Is it because Son plays for Spurs that people lose their minds over Palmer but ignore Son? Spurs finished above Chelsea last season. Plus Son scored more non penalty goals than Palmer. Genuinely I don’t understand the fuss for Palmer over Son. Palmer seems like the hype 🚂 with no real substance to be regarded higher than one of PL’s greatest players in recent seasons.

@@dylanmason1867 another factor I haven’t added in is that Son is fresh to go as he had the summer off and has been training and playing back with the first team. He looks sharp in friendlies and to me he’s straight in my team. If someone can provide a real justification as to why Cole Palmer is worth an extra 0.5m I’d like to see it. Maybe I’m overlooking something. Don’t forget too how well Spurs started last season before injuries. The weakness with the team is in playing too open and so conceding goals, it’s not about scoring them at the other end.
