    ------------------------
    My goal with this project is to build a screen accurate Star Wars Clone Trooper costume. There is a costuming group called the 501st Legion which I am hoping to join to better showcase some of my droid projects. The club has strict costuming guidelines which can be found in their Costume Reference Library. I’m going to use that C.R.L. as a guide along with watching build logs of other clone trooper builders to hopefully be inducted into the 501st Legion.
    Is this cosplay? Yes, I guess technically it is. I’ve never considered myself much of the cosplay type but as an art major and someone who has always had a hand in something artistic, the idea of building and painting a costume that I can wear sounds like a project that is right up my alley.
    Why clones? Why Commander Bow? Simple. He looks the coolest. I don’t see myself as one of those guys who is going to be building 100 different Star Wars costumes, in fact the idea had NEVER occurred to me until I saw a Facebook image of a 501st Legion member as a Phase 2 clone trooper. I was like “Damn, that’s pretty cool.” Funnily enough, the 501st Legion is named after the exact group of clone troopers that I will be building into….the 501st Legion.
    In Star Wars canon, the 501st Legion is the battalion of clone troopers who serve directly under Jedi General Anakin Skywalker and later Lord Vader. All battalions of clone troopers are denoted by color, and the 501st color is blue. You can see them all in Star Wars Episode 3: Revenge of the Sith storming the jedi temple after order 66.
    The blue color of the 501st clone troopers is my favorite look of clone trooper, so it was pretty obvious I was going with them, then once I saw Commander Bow’s macrobinoculars I was sold!
    Stay tuned as this series progresses and I work towards being an official member of the 501st Legion!
    From Wookiepedia:
    "Bow" was the nickname of a clone stormtrooper who served as a commander within the Galactic Empire's 501st Legion. A loyal and obedient soldier, he rose to his rank by around the time of Order 66, which Emperor Palpatine used to brand all Jedi as traitors to the Empire and initiate the galaxy-wide Jedi Purge. One month into the purge, Bow was part of a 501st stormtrooper squad that Clone Commander Appo took to Kessel. There, Bow and his fellow troopers rescued the Dark Lord of the Sith Darth Vader from a batch of Jedi Knights who had survived Order 66. Bow and his comrades gunned down Jedi Masters Jastus Farr, Tsui Choi, and Roblio Darté, executing them in mid-battle with Vader. Following the incident, Bow personally filed reports on several of the Jedi victims, and he continued to serve in the 501st after Appo's death at the Battle of Kashyyyk.

    In order to join a garrison do I have to have a costume or can I join then make a costume afterwards

    • @PatchBOTS
      @PatchBOTS  Před 4 lety +12

      TO "join" yes. you need a costume. To just hang out or to get help with your build you DO NOT need to be an official member of the 501st. For example, I am not a member of the 501st (yet) but I have been to the Taylor Made Armory a few times already to work on my build, get help, offer help, hang out. If you're thinking of building a costume, I would definitely reach out to local members of the 501st. In my experience they are very welcoming to new comers and very encouraging and helpful when it comes to getting your first costume ready for approval. You can also join them on troops as a "spotter" who helps with getting costumes on and being the fully-mobile person available to help to random things.
      TL;DR: You need a costume to join the 501st, you do not need a costume to contact and hang out with your future-garrison.

    I didn't remember that kamas were actually that short. I think I prefer the long kamas from 2003 clone wars.

    That is incredible. I've been meaning to make a set of clone armor and join a Garrison, and a helpful user on imgur had mentioned that the ARC Null troopers are rarely ever seen, so I think I'll attempt ARC Null Ordo Skirata.

    killing it patrick.
    something to note about your holsters though - You might want to consider reinforcing the straps with a metal plate (or something sturdy). When i used just webbing to connect my holsters, i found they were the things that were getting snagged/pulled on and breaking the most. I basically have an abs strip running along the inside of the strap thats secured with a nut and bolt to both the blaster and my internal rigging (i found the weight of them was pulling my cod/butt down onto my hips in an uncomfortable way. They are now directly attached to my internal harnessing instead)

      Thanks Joe. Tha'ts a great tip. I'm working up a huge "do this part over" list. I'll add that to it. I starting understand the "constant maintenance" reality of these things!

    Great video, i would like to make a kama for myself as well, but i struggled to get some good measurements. This video helped me a lot. Just one small question. The final measurements are what you showed and just added 1 inch (25,4mm) to where the seams are going to be?

    Whoa! Magnets and velcro for the kama! That's a good idea! I'm just using string through the top then tying it off, but it's hard getting it around just right by myself.
    Holsters look cool, but one problem that I run into often is getting my pistols back into their holsters since I can't see them. Have you run into that problem? Then again, my holsters are on belts that wrap around me. Yours look more securely in place so maybe you don't have that problem.

    Looking Great! Sounds like the NJ garrison is super supportive and that is awesome! So excited for you to become an official member and get you rocking one of our clone racing shirts that you panned across earlier in the Taylor Made Armory shop. Are you planning on submitting for multiple approvals at the same time? I am fairly sure you have already completed a 501st grunt based on what I have seen. (one of us, one of us, one of us!)
    We need to re-make new holters down here in MD for our Captain Rex as she broken them practicing her quick draw. Luckily my Gree doesnt have silly pistols, DC-15s only for me!

    • @PatchBOTS

      Dude, I have been eyeing one of those racing shirts since day 1. I know a lot of people go nuts on merch, and I'm not a "merch guy" but I want one of those shirts, haha. Not duing mulitple approvals at the same time. I think the macrobinocular slots I cut in the ears would DQ me from a grunt, but I have another EVO3 helmet on hand for that grunt helmet. Also, i have a P1 helmet and eventually an airborne. So multiple approvals? yes! all at once? No. Really excited now that it's getting closer!

    Hello Mr. PatchBOTS! I have a suggestion for your interchangeable armor. You should build parts for CT-0252 or Captain “Vaughn” from Star Wars the clone wars season 7. It wouldn’t be to hard, basically just a new helmet, and a small jet pack on the back, Thanks!
    Second, I’m starting a realistic movie accurate Captain Vaughn build and I’m using imperial surplus armor, and a sanitized creations helmet like you did! Anyway, I need All of commander Cody’s attachments for the helmet and the antenna on the arm for Vaughn. But I can’t find them for the sanitized creations helmet anywhere 😔 I was wondering if you new someone who made those attachments, or if you made them? I want to get 501st approved also, Thanks!

    • @PatchBOTS
      @PatchBOTS  Před 4 lety

      Hello. Sorry for the late reply. Yes, I have some plans to do a bunch of interchangable characters. I definitely want to do an "ahsoka" helmet. But more likely a grunt. Though, the Vaugn helmet would be cool, you've definitely given me something to think about.
      For finding the parts, check with Storm Props. I don't know if you have a 3d printer, but I know he makes them.

    • @PatchBOTS
      @PatchBOTS  Před 4 lety +1

      It's definitely not necessary. Most builders do not do any 3D printing. I like having the resource on demand, but you'll find plenty of builders who've never used one and have amazing builds

      My suit is a little tighter (that's how I wanted it) so it definitely clanks around less than other I have heard. But some of it unavoidable (arms crashing into chest/mid section). But for the most part I'm quiet.

      I will upload the blank illustration shown in this video to my github: www.github.com/PatchBOTS. I don't have the measurments from that day, and if I did I probably wouldn't upload them anyway because I think it's really important to size your kama to your armor.
