  • I got sent $25 of random stuff, and I had to make something with it! But what did I get?!
    This time, I teamed up with three of my favourite CZcams channels, 8Bits and a Byte, TechnoChic and Make it and Fake it. We sent each other $25 of random items and the #challenge was that we had to use everything we were sent to make a robot or #electronics project. Mine had something to do with plants and smartlights... spoilers below 😉

    🤖✨ SPOILERS? ✨🤖
    Plastic ivy and multicoloured plant pots. Definitely the most random package I've ever received - and that's saying something, since I pay a robot to send me mystery gifts every month! (But that's a topic for another video!)
    I had so many ideas, like making an unkillable robot plant, or an ivy cannon... but I really wanted to use all the plant pots. I didn't have enough wheels to make a robot plant army, and my cats were already spreading the ivy all over the house, so I ruled those ideas out. Instead I opted for a more stealthy approach - I turned the pots and their saucers into secret switches to control my smart lights!
    The pots are lined up on the shelf, with the ivy hiding the wires that trail between them, making it look like a normal display. BUT! Lift up one of the pots, place it back down and the lights in the room turn the same colour as the pot you picked up!

    You are the reason robots are going to take over the world

    Absolutely LOVE this 25 "buck" maker challenge between you all !!
    I first saw Clare's video on "MakeItAndFakeIt", then discovered TechnoChic and 8-Bits-and-a-Byte.
    I like that both Nicole and Dane participated!
    Perhaps choosing any one plant two times in a row could send the Lights OFF command?

      Oooh, I like that idea! You could even play a game of mastermind against your room to turn the lights off!

    Maybe you can keep that fake plant alive unlike the microbit plant

    Cool project! I like the microbit projects, becuase it means i can (more or less) make them🤣

      Haha! Well I'm glad you're enjoying them - and maybe you can branch out into Arduino sometime🤣 !

      In the 11 months it took, I am now back with arduino experience, and also have branched out too making my own projects as well. Thanks a lot for responding to my comment, might have not even touched an arduino had it not been for you. Thanks a lot!

    This is so great! The 06:34 CATastrophy was adorable. Now that your plants are connected to the internet, how about your cat?

    • @HannahMakes
      @HannahMakes  Před 3 lety +2

      My cats can't handle that kind of responsibility 😂

    ITTT and WebHooks?! OOoo, I like! Loving the plant pot light control (and I feel for you, cats and workspace rarely mix well :) )

      Thanks! Damn cats and their curious nature - they cry if I lock them out 😂

    IFTTT has a rainbow loop. The mismatched pot would make a great "well that's annoying after about 2 seconds".

    • @HannahMakes
      @HannahMakes  Před 3 lety +1

      Love the rainbow loop! Only reason I didn't use it here is that I already have my echo set up so that it activates rainbow loop when I say "Alexa, it's party time" 😂

      @@HannahMakes I respect the caution. Gotta be careful about partying too hard.
      Oh btw as a viewer I was low key a bit sad to not see the random pot in action and the pink one fixed. It's minor, just something to think about in narrative pay off. Loved the video anyways.
