Forgive my bothering again but I noticed something else you do: you throw forth a conclusion, then social science, then neuroscience, then brain lesion, then then capacity of residue and the what's left you described as standard outputs that come to know great variety from some formulated relationship between DA and 5-HT synapses. This take neuroscience from the a-->b notion and show us the reality of this little effect. In my youth, we were all derouted by theoretical relationship of 5-HT and DA. Do you think that at the evolutionary bottom relation of these two systems might lie key bond between sensorimotor activity and priority of liked, wanted and designed limbic factors wherein, cortex acts via dopamine and automatisms via rage 5-HT so that the arousal with DA clenching in action a situation specific behavior. Memory becomes coded neuronal patterns that the DA arouses 5-HT turns into elaborate behavior relative to the setting in which we find ourselves. 5HT keeps us in well adapted movement functions while DA insures the focus of our efforts that meet the 5HT induced determined needs to get something accomplished in consort with mcetabotropic needs. The3 How (5-HT) and the when (DA) are a critically distinction based on le milieu interieur's need for action. Far more than the attention to the task and need that the task be done integrate in this circuit so that what must be and how it most be when, all come out of the DA-5HT interaction in the brainstem from Striatal to form a what? why? where? with the "mind set" needed that it and it alone isdone by that CNS.

Thanks, Professor Mason! Wonderful explanation, as usual.
I guess, the questions are not monitored here, but still...
How is that that the hippocampus (13:00) is involved in recalling, but H.M. still could recall the old memories? Does it mean, the hippocampus is involved in a kind of a side process, not directly in recalling? Have H.M.'s memories shifted and morphed a bit with new recalling, if the hippocampus was not there to reinforce the memories as he recalled them?
Another question is about the "Holywood amnesia". I came across a description of a condition that looks like this very type of amnesia - people not remembering facts about themselves (the topic was the theory of mind, not memory per see): Rosenbaum R. S., Sтuss D. Т., Levine В., Tulving Е. 2007. 'Theory of Mind Is Independent of Episodic Memory' Science. V. 318. Р. 1257. So, it is not entirely imaginary?

Hate to necro but the reason H.M. could recall old memories is because after enough recalls memories get transferred from the hippocampus into the cortex. This is why H.M. could not form new memories as the hippocampus is needed to store the memories until enough recall cycles are reached where it is no longer needed.

Who is the WE who no longer view intelligence as a general trait? Most neurologists and psychologists who are active scientists in this field are pretty convinced of its reality, and that HGs multiple intelligences is scientific nonsense. Now I've confused.

@KJ Reminds me of that joke: what do you get when you mix politics and science? You get politics. I guess "woke" doesn't mean enlightened.

She just repeats facts she was fed during her life. But she does not understand how it all works (because we do not have the full explanation yet). It is very apparent when she explains something like intelligence or memory. She just throws those pieces of information that explains a little bit but not really the whole thing. Very depressing listening to her.
