In this episode of The Sound of Winter Sessions, professional mountain unicyclist Kris Holm walks us through his childhood of discovering the unique sport in his life. From pogo stick competitions, to walking on 5ft stilts, Holm was never drawn towards mainstream sports. He was one of the first athletes to take up mountain unicycling professionally, and has had a huge influence on the sport.
Now, as a veteran of mountain unicycling, Holm gives us the low down on his past adventures and the progression of the sport in this episode of The Sound of Winter Sessions:

9:19 When he's rolling down next to the "waterfall" spot, he's not even using a brake (not equipped on the KH 20"). That takes an INSANE amount of leg power to slow yourself down while going down a steep angle like that. What a legend.
I'm thankful for these guys for bringing unicycle to the next level.
I have told my girlfriends that unicyclists are super cool. They disagree but they are still around. With people like Kris Holm bringing attention to the sport, the mainstream folks will also realize how cool the unicycle is.
As an Irish musician (I play whistle and flute) and a MUni rider the opening shot put a huge smile on my face.
Definitely it's like your IQ doubles.
I grew up without depth perception.
So I've always been three-dimensionally challenged.
I currently spend a lot of time with fire alarm systems in buildings.
I started unicycling in September and now can go 5 miles.
Now when I walk into a building I can envision everything like the building is transparent.
In my mind I can suspend the FACP (Fire Alarm Control Panel) in the air as well as the transparent building and the wiring.
That's a far cry from a kid who couldn't hit a tennis ball or catch a baseball.
Glad I decided to learn unicycling... at age 60!
I'm 64 and still riding and have been since I was 8.
Truly inspiring athlete. Really hope to meet him someday!
Seb Baldwin I've met him and he's a super nice guy. We went around the Big slick rock loop in moab Utah on our unicycles. He led a group of about 10-15 of us
He's my inspiration. This is a great video
This is so inspiring. Truly an amazing athlete.

Great video Kris and so informative and interesting! Well done sir!
What a legend.
I just randomly came into a unicycle and my interest is now piqued. I also live in Arkansas nearby many mountainbike trails. Cool to see the more... "offroad" so to speak applications, this looks like a lot of fun. I've wiped out nearly as hard on my mountainboard before but now I have a good helmet...
Respect.
I rode and know so many of these places!!!
Amazing athlete!
Great husband, talent, pioneer and humble guy!
Never knew he was Vancouver based like myself! Every time I go out riding everyone stares but you sort of just block it out after a while
He reminds me a bit of Tony Hawk.
A lot actually.
you all probably dont give a shit but does any of you know a method to get back into an instagram account??
I somehow forgot my password. I love any tricks you can give me.
@Wilson Grey Instablaster :)
very nice.
The makings of a Role Model...:-) Bravo Zulu Sir...
I miss BC ; (
nice. it look fun. perhaps, you might want to consider " electric unicycle". all through electric unicycle it isn't cardio workout but it is a workout. I can get 110-120 km range out of my electric unicycle.
PLEASE! SUBTITLES IN ESPAÑOL.
Taking my penny farthing downhilling next week.
i know this is 5 years late but i must know if you were successful.
@@thevanbrostricrecreation8591 I now spend my penny in a bag due to the colossal fall suffered. Live by the farthing, die by the farthing!
Man, it sure would be useful if like... someone could invent a thing where.. you have like.... another wheel.
05:54 why would anyone do that?
damnit, I can ride a regular unicycle, but it costs way to much for a muni.
Do they were cups? I'm a female and my crotch hurts when I ride my unicycle too long. I can't imagine how a guy feels.
too much hurt ;v
You get used to it and eventually sit in a position on the saddle where it isn't a problem
@@syratimm9265 This. I ride unicycles for years (street/flat) and this was only a problem in the very first weeks, when learned it from scratch. And even then, perhaps 2 times or so.. I would not have proceeded, if this is problem :D
Notice also that you are out of the saddle, if you are jumping off from something high.
Have you thought about using suspension on your unicycle
Rockshox boxxer unicycle! 😂😂😂
Ride PNW Your suspension is created by taking some air out of your tire
