  • In this cake decorating video tutorial I show you a fancy idea to decorate your cake with. A petal ruffle type effect using fondant which I mixed with modelling paste. In this video I use a cutter to get the correct shape I want, along with using a balling tool to get the effect I am after on my cake. I have another video with a similar effect which you can watch here - • Creating a ruffle patt...
    To get my fondant the light brown colour I used in this video I used an ivory sugar flair colour which can be found here - tinyurl.com/pjr...

    Thank you for your technique! I was never happy with my ruffles in the past. But I tried your way with the 5 petal flower cutter - genius! Saves trouble of cutting 5x the number of little circles. The ruffle tier of my cake stole the scene, simply stunning! I do feel bad for anyone attempting this on a 12 inch tier like I just did. It took me a few hours, and I'm fast. I even skipped the ball tool step (I wanted a softer look with less frill). Anyway, this video helped me immensely!

      @zoesfancycakes  Před 9 lety

      Lianne Chapman Thanks for watching Lianne :)
      It is edible, although modelling paste can set very hard so not everyone will want to eat it, you can always mix 50/50 fondant with modelling paste :)

    • @zoesfancycakes
      @zoesfancycakes  Před 9 lety

      I don't really use marzipan but it's not ideal for anything that needs to be rolled really thin or for delicate shaped models :)

    Can these be made ahead of time like a few days before ...will i able to stick them to the cake a day before. ...how many roughly do u need for a 10 or 8 inch cake. .thanks

      Yes you could make it a little in advance but I would imagine the petals will be harder to shape and stick on. I couldn't say how many it would take as I just do it there and then I'm afraid.

    Hi there! I was wondering how far in advanced you can make the petals for a cake? I have a 4 tiered cake with the bottom tier at 14 in, so I have a lot of petals make an would like to ease my work towards the end.

    • @zoesfancycakes
      @zoesfancycakes  Před 9 lety

      It depends on if you want to attach them once they have set hard or like to add them whilst still soft. But you can make them a couple of weeks in advance if you want them to set hard
