I didn't read all the comments, but would suggest that after everything is opened up, use the blower before using the cleaning cloth. If the cloth touches the "rock" first and it's rubbed all over the virgin lens, the lens could get scratched. Best to try and blow it away, I would think. Great video - it works!!!

Actually you should do reverse operation. First blow air with the pump and then use the cloth. Oterway if you clean the dust with the cloth you could scratch the glass. Usually i prefert first to remove all the dust whit the pump and then remove any stain with the cloth (sorry for my bad english i am italian)

Thank you, David. You explained the lens cleaning process so well. Crystal clear (pun unintended!!). I have the same model lens and saw a smudge and got worried if I need to take it to a camera repair shop to get it cleaned but seeing your video, I feel confident I could handle this myself at home.

A tip I learned when disassembling my SCT telescope's front corrector plate is to instead of using a dark marker, to actually use one or two tiny strips of masking tape - fixed in an upside down U or L shape, both to the inner bit to be removed and the external one on the tube/lens barrel - and then cut it where both parts join before disassembling it.

Man I remember I took apart my 75-300 USM Canon lens to clean out fungus from the tropics. Took everything apart front, and back. Wow lots of fun, and no you tube back in the day to help out. Put everything back together, and everything worked fine. Ask me to do it today, I don not think so....Lol!

left my canon t5i in the pouring rain sheltered by nothing but a fanny pack. blew my mind to see the camera still turns on but my lense are fogged up. i was afraid to shock the camera (wet wiring & energy transferred from battery) by turning it on right away so i let it sit by a sunny window for a few days when i came back i checked the battery comp to make sure it had dried and it did. i think the moisture and sun caused the insides to fog so like you said. ill be doing this tomorrow

Have a new camera with dust inside the lens. It's only two weeks old. The house is dusty. The pictures aren't affected so I'll keep shooting but eventually will take it apart. The lens looks just like my telescope lens but my scope is a doublet. I suspect that there's a stack of lenses in that little plastic holder just like the telescope so be careful. Drop one and you're effed.

If you have an old casette tape eraser, you can use it to magnetize (or de-magnetize) your screwdriver tips, then the screws don't fall and stick to the screwdriver. To magnetize, put the screwdriver tip against the part where you would lay on top of a casette, a short burst of magnetism and presto, magnetized tip. To de-magnetize, turn on the demagnetizer, bring it to the screwdriver and pull away while it it still on.
