  • Huge thank you to ‪@marshallamps‬ and Joel for allowing us to make this video! Thanks to Chris @pedalpawn for videoing and accompanying me.
If you're wondering why I speak less in this video, I have already visited the factory and just wanted to go back to film the experience for you guys. This was Chris' first time :)

All jobs are done for financial reasons. They are not altruistic endeavours for the benefit of others. Offer any of these staff double what they’re currently paid to work in a factory making baked bean cans, and see how many stay at Marshall

This behind the scenes is really cool. I know it's just another day of work for those folks making these amps and cabs, but as an outsider it's cool to get a glimpse at all this. Thanks for sharing this, Mia!

I used to go to the factory often when I was stationed in England while in the U. S. Airforce there in the early 80's. I became friends with Ken Bran. He was the one who made that first Marshall amp they showed. Jim Marshall was a drummer and owned a music store in London. Ken Bran worked at the music store repairing amps and he is the one who built the first Mashall amp, he deserves credit!

  • @glengamble526

And by the way, in the 80’s, Marshall put out a 2x12” combo (JCM 800 guts I think?) that is STILL the best combo amp I’ve ever heard in my life. It roars, with the guts of a JCM in more portable form. Its 100 watt, all tube amp with Celestions. I believe it was limited production, but if you ever get the chance, PLEASE try it. I found one for a friend and his and another friend’s are the single best amps I’ve heard. Look up blues legend Bill Durst and check his tone-he uses them exclusively and no pedals. Just an SG straight in. One of the best sounds you’ll ever hear.
    Incredible.

    Fantastic stuff, Mimi.
The OTHER story I heard was that, when Marshall approached Slash about doing a custom artist amp, he said ‘Just make more Silver Jubilee’s but call them Slash models.’ They told him they ethically couldn’t, as the SJ was a limited edition and an anniversary amp. It wouldn’t be fair to those who bought them as limited edition or as collectors. So, from what I’m told, his artists model is essentially a Silver Jubilee with some modifications-enough to make it ‘different’ (but still very similar).
I DO know Slash collects the original SJ’s and buys them up whenever he can. I’m also told he does the same with original H+H power amps, and basically has a storage facility full of both.
    Great vlog, regardless!

I liked the Jaguar amp definitely looking the best, though i can't fault any of Marshal's Iconic amps and cabs, but that Jaguar, beautiful design, covering colour... and WOW 😮 that Marshall themed harley bike!! at the studio..
Did you guys get to try any of the amps and cabs there?
the tour was cool i wonder if Marshall take on younger people to apprentice, it'd be a real shame if Marshall had to close down one day and be forced to find another country to survive just because its cheaper, manufacturing costs, and then lose its brittish roots because there's no one fresh to learn the trade skills in each department
I love Marshall in my own way, much in the same way equally as in compared to Fender. They both have their own unique, distinctive qualities that make them so awesome!
    Shocker- Marshall drum kits.. wtfudge!??

Great video - thanks for sharing guys👍✌️😊💜 Kind of Marshall's to spare the time and open up like that too💜💜✌️
I remember Marshall's when working in and around Milton Keynes, iirc there was no museum back then though (circa early/mid 1980s) - or at least that I knew of🤔🤔
I never saw them in Hanwell, but I used to buy guitars and kit from various shops in Hanwell including Peter Cook's in the 1980s, I suppose I purchased my last guitar from the area circa 1992🤔 Many of the shops have gone now💔☹️ But even in the 1980s there was still a great vibe there✌️✌️
Where does all the time go✌️💜😀

Jim Marshall was a drummer, and if I’m correct, he played in Pete Townsend’s (The Who) father’s big band. When Pete complained that he couldn’t get the volume and gain he wanted anywhere, Jim offered to build him something. And that’s how it all started. The originals had all 8 speakers in one cabinet, till the crew complained they were too heavy and cumbersome. And the stack was born.
However, I could be wrong. Feel free to correct me, people.

Obviously some great amps and they are real work horses but they cant handle different clean tones or certain effects added well. They got carried away following the 'hard rock' path, which served them very well but guitars sounds are going in a different direction now. Id love marshall to do both some vintage fender style amps and digital amps filled with on board effects but most importantly leave the Slash style cheesyness behind. Similar image to Gibson.
Putting my personal preferences aside, im really impressed by the craftsmanship on display and Marshall's history. Jim marshall was a fascinating guy aswell- he taught mitch mitchell (hendrix drummer) drums

Can you believe I traded a 60's 100 Super lead 12x8 100 Super Lead (snakeskin speaker cloth) for a new Les Paul Standard? I'd bought it from a guy who had it stored in a closet for years, complete with covers and casters... $560.. 1971. What he called the "original Hendrix"... that speaker CLOTH really is a giveaway. Clapton was using the same amp with the Cream. The thing FILLED my mother's VW Squareback station wagon. I traded it off after 7 years.

Hi Mia, I am just like you , I guess play guitar in my kitchen and feel really uncomfortable with playing my guitar in front of people but I can honestly say that my brother has told endless people that my brother has such a great talent and could have done so much with his guitar playing...
But guess I've just got stuck in a Rut where all I do I play guitar in my kitchen hahaha...
But Stevie ray Vaughan was a big influence on me as well as jeff healey and funny enough when I was young hank Marvin was my hero hahaha now looking back I laugh and think ? Huh ? Hank Marvin really Carl?
    Hahahaha....
Looking at you and the passion you have for the guitar is so very much like me and yes I'm a quiet guy with not much confidence and the song by Jeff healey called confidence man resembles me but in a way that I'm not that confident but I love my guitars and always have since I was 7 years old and me watching my brother playing his guitar and when he went to the toilet I quickly grabbed his guitar and tried to play it hahaha when he came back from the toilet I'd quickly lay it on the bed and pretend I was just looking at it hahahaha😂😂😂
But anyway I'm off now but i watch most of your videos on CZcams and think your a cool Girl with a great personality and lots of love for the guitar just like me but with me ? I'm in my kitchen and playing feeling bad blues hahahaha....
Please check out jeff healey and Stevie ray Vaughan playing look at little sister and in my opinion the best video on CZcams.
    Regards Carl.
    Good luck mimi.

Maybe I'm wrong, but all through this video I couldn't help thinking, that while Marshall is truly embedded in rock history - if they don't get behind small digital do-it-all boxes they'll be following the way of the Kodak film company, another firm that refused to see the future coming. Is anyone actually buying huge 4x4 cabs with Marshall heads anymore? Everybody I know is moving toward small digital boxes feeding directly into PAs.
