- How do you find your Art Style? Myself and many artists struggle with this question. It's a lifelong process that can seem daunting at first. In this art vlog I'll share with you how I am developing my own art style and how you can too! I'll paint two oil paintings, one that I considered a "failure" and one that defines my desired art style! Even though the first one was not as successful, the lessons it taught me were vital to finding my style. Also, Brett and I go for a nice hike and it was so much fun! :)
Happy Valentine's Day! I hope you all get the chance to spend time with or do something special for someone you care for! I care for you all!
Lots of love,
Ashleigh 💖

🌿 Recipe for Shaved Asparagus, Mint, and Edamame Spaghetti (4 servings):
Ingredients-
salt and pepper
8oz large asparagus
3/4 cup frozen shelled edamame
14oz dried spaghetti
2tbsp olive oil
1 large leek, white parts only, trimmed and julienned
1 large clove garlic
4oz ricotta cheese
1 large handful fresh mint, finely chopped
2tbsp grated parmesan cheese
1. Bring a large pan of salted water to a boil. To prepare asparagus, place each spear flat on a cutting board and use a peeler to shave into very thin slices.
2. Cook the edamame in the boiling water for 1 minute. Remove with a slotted spoon and put into a bowl of ice water.
3. Add the spaghetti to the boiling water and cook according to the package instructions until just al dente. When the spaghetti is cooked, drain and reserve 1/2 cup cooking water. Set the spaghetti aside.
4. Meanwhile, when the spaghetti is nearly cooked, heat the olive oil in a large nonstick frying pan. Add the asparagus and leek and cook for 2 minutes, stirring frequently, until the asparagus starts to soften. Add the garlic and edamame and cook for 1 minute more. Remove from the heat.
5. Add the ricotta and 4 tablespoons of the reserved cooking water to the pasta pan. Whisk until smooth, adding more cooking water as necessary. Add the asparagus mixture to the pan and mix together over a low heat.
6. Return the spaghetti to the pan, and add the mint and parmesan. Toss well. Season well with salt and pepper. Divide among 4 serving plates and serve immediately with more parmesan, mint leaves, and a drizzle of olive oil on top.

Thanks so much for your support! Love you all!❤
Great video very enjoyable thanks keep well
Transcendental meditation. David Lynch talks a lot about it. I'm musician and it helped me. Hearing you talking about being self-indulgent reminded me him. With this I've learned to be 50% and observer and 50% a good listener to myself. I know your approach might be different but go and listen to his technique. It's going to take time but my intuition is you have to appreciate and love to listen to him because there is something magical in the fascination you have for a creative phenomenon I can't tell more. The magic has to happen by itself. Cheers Martin.
This video was also very calming ...really loved it a lot🕊🤍
I love that you were transparent with your struggle on the first portrait, but came back and crushed the second portrait. Also I think part of finding your style is just being patient, as long as youre creating, it will inevitably come. And even when I feel like I have a style, I’m wondering what my art will look like next! Anywho, awesome video!
So true Aiah! I definitely think my style will evolve throughout my life as my interests and inspirations change. And that is so exciting to think about!
That's how you know they're a great and honest person!
nice work
We don't draw for perfection we draw for passion and your painting is amazing
So true! Thanks 🥰
“Our skills do not always progress in a linear fashion”- great insight for art and life 👍
Can’t wait to start getting your news letter !!
thank you!! :)
Could you maybe do a video (or a ig story) about what supplies you use, which brushes and how you clean them and your palette, I think it would be very helpful!(:
Btw I looooove your videos they are so calming and inspiring
that's a great idea! I will try to post about that in my stories this week! Thank you
Exactly! You can draw or paint something 10 times, the last time isn't gonna be your best work every time. I agree, keep practicing and collecting photos of art, you'll automatically be drawn to certain styles, colors and textures. And of course all of this will change over time, because so are we. I like the calming cinematic music! Keep creating and inspiring people 🎨✌
Thanks so much Guilherme! You're so right about that and it's something I have to remind myself of :) have a great day!

I was very impressed by the difference between the first and second painting! Your honesty about the difficulty you had with the first painting is very refreshing.
All the best from The Netherlands 🇳🇱
Thank you so much, it's sooo beautiful what you do and how you paint, wow
Thanks so much Alyona!
Been really inspired by all your videos Ashleigh! Keep up the amazing content. It’s really cool how your painting and art translates to your video and editing style. I really dig it! God bless!
Thanks so much Bret! That is so kind of you to say. Have a great day! :)
Always love the feel of your videos!
thanks so much Ronnie!
That was GREAT job on stretch and then to redo a canvas due to your base coat of geso and second canvas definitely made a big difference. Your layering of colors also was good to observe as you blended colors. And brush applications also. I saw how you worked in areas to get your shadow areas. And angles faces for me are also challenges for me and I too continue to find my style for faces portraits. Seeing your perspective s encouraged me to not give up on portrait s . As I had put painting faces on back burner for later time. But seeing how you worked on yours gave me inspiration to scetch also. I need to make scetching practice again. Thank you for your video your painting came out beautiful and awesome! I am sure he will love it for his display.
I was waiting patiently for you new video💕 your work in art of cooking and paintings feel so much love💕 enjoy your day... Loved your video😍

Apsolutely amazing painting..colors, proportions, wibe
In the same time current and nostalgic
Aw thank you so much!
This video is so fantastic. I love the music, your hair looks great, and as a self taught artist I really appreciate the honesty and struggle that you showed. All your insights from the first painting are spot on and the second one is honestly fantastic. I'm jealous of how quick you were able to apply what you learned and turn out an awesome piece of art.
Thanks Tim! I've found art making is mostly struggle just until you get it right and then all that pain was worth it lol!
so inspiring
You can't imagine how much I've been waiting for your videos! I feel like I've lost my creativity in the field of art for a long time and will never be able to paint again and when I get so depressed, I come and watch your videos over and over. I hope I can watch five hundred and fifty more of your videos eheheh... Thank you so much for sharing your art journey, it may sound weird but I love you like you're my best friend
Aw I lost my passion for art for a while too so I understand. So happy to hear the videos help you 😊❤️❤️
Grateful for the peace you pass in your videos
aw thank you!
Another great video! So many insights, and hope that even though progress is not linear, we can become even better even if we "fail" at certain point.
I love the pacing of the video, and the music, as always.
I believe that your editing skills are awesome, and give the proper dreamy calm vibe to your content.
You are so kind to say so! Yes, there is always progress, it just might not be in the areas we are expecting! Thanks so much :)
Thank you Ashleigh King, your sharing is wonderful. You are answering the right question that I am having trouble with. It's hard to find my own art style, I often look at other people's artwork. But that did not satisfy me, because I wanted to find a very personal art style for me.
So happy to hear it was helpful! I think finding those style qualities in many different artworks and incorporating them into your own will help. Wishing you the best

I'm a Brazilian fan. I love to draw and I usually just do it with pencils, black and gray portraits. I recently started experimenting with colored pencils and your painting videos helped me a lot. Your videos are inspiring, keep up the good work.

Oh good! I love to listen to calming cinematic when I’m painting! 😊
Your videos are so relaxing and motivating to watch, it makes me want to pick up a brush and just paint! 🥰
So happy to hear that Kelly!!
that’s what my sis did at her lowest point in life
and two years later, it’s changed her
for the better
for her, better therapy then therapists
she’s hooked
hey I love your videos and your art
Aw thank you so much Katharina! Happy to hear that 🥰
A really beautiful painting here. This vlog is fantastic.
Thank you very much!
I was excited by the title of this video because I'm currently experimenting to find my own painting style! I loved your tip about creating a Pinterest board and noticing what all of the art that inspires you has in common. On my way to do it on Insta now! :) By the way, love your style and I am also attempting to learn some of the techniques you've shown here!
ahh that's awesome!! It's a fun process with so many possibilities! :)
As an artist myself girl I get what you mean and all of the self criticism that we give ourselves! It is easy to compare ourselves to others or even doubt our creativity! I’m here to tell you that you are doing amazing and your art is and will always be ever evolving. You are doing amazing. Be kind to yourself 🧡💛💛 love your content and your growth 👍🏽
thank you so much! I needed to hear this and need to remind myself of it more often! wishing you the best
Thank you so much for this❤
you are amazing😍😍
❤️
I love your work, you inspire me to be an artist < 3
Aw 🥺 thank you 💖
@@AshleighKing lol just laughing st the face 👀
but don’t you think hey can do better
with these 🤡🤑🤧😈🙂🙃🔥?
like maybe they can move around or something at the least..
anyway nice work!
and Yadira, just start and have fun
it’s interesting how over time look back
(cause you might not notice though other might) and see more.
This how I learn, never school in anything but this need to explore and learn since I’ve always been sort of
an outcast/loner
yet I’m never bored
the way I see it, we have everything we
need [besides the obvious color, tools and what not]
some aim beginners mind when arting
but if your a beginner should you have
advanced kind?
i have no clue what I said above 👁 👀
who cares you know..people get to philosophical at times
if you have passion for something you’ll do it for free
and if your not sure which way to go
do something you’d do for nothing
an advice given to me by a good friend
which i found to be tru for me
specially now with everything going on
art neutralizes all that and hope to rise
above it
best
Your journey is going good
thank you!
your videos is so perfect

Thank you!! Glad I’m not alone in that! I believe it’s linked in the description, let me know if that works 😊
I'm an old artist. Found my style a long time ago. You'll find yours too. I have a little tip. You want to keep the viewer viewing as long as you can. You don't want them to just glance at your work and say, "That's nice." You want them to Glance, Question, Look, Talk and Share. Put a little different into it. You can do this while you are learning and really catch attention. Do it good enough and that is all you will ever need to know no matter what your skill level.
STARE! lol
