I've read/heard about attacks on convoy disabling the front and then back vehicles from antiquity. Mujahedeen in Afghanistan often used it too. It's especially effective on mountain roads.
It's a common tactic taught to all crew served weapons operators, e.g. machine gun teams employing two guns. One starts at the front of the convoy and the other starts at the rear.

I thought the Merkava tanks had some kind of super duper Trophy system. But we're not seeing it here
They have a system that can stop a regular RPG, but Hamas have developed one that has a small charge to make the responsive armour respond and then the 2nd charge does the real work.

It is very good, but it's not 100% effective. Knowing how it works is very easy to bipass it or overcome it.
