(late reply, but...) I think most of the closeness was the hero damage.
Just the other night I had a victory against the beard-things where I killed 2500 of them, and lost no units. Got a “close victory” hah
@@Run4TheHills321 yeah, both of the heroes had 50% health left, and since they have way more value the health they lost is more than the slaves
Try playing Vampire Counts. I will smash a massive endgame army, lose zero formations, but since half my skeletons died it's literally always a Pyrrhic victory. Game's like "was it even worth it, tho?"

I know "Legend is really a Skaven" is essentially a meme by this stage, but damn, his seamless transition between human and Skaven voice is a thing of genius.
He really should make a campaign livestream where he roleplays as a Skaven the entire time :D

"As a Skaven life is cheap" that's what needs to be remembered.
The best way I explain Skaven to newbies, "They play like Dwarves and Tomb Kings, you main battle line is there to soak damage , not be the main killing power of your army. You special units are what are going to be the main killers, if ANY main battle line unit has more kills than one of your specialist units, you are using them wrong."
Except for Warplock Jazzels trying to snipe a hero or lord.

i actually thought thats what this was when i saw the title lol but tbh a how to be effective would be pretty sweet as tbh i struggle with some races due to how they work and there unique faction things (DE slaves, skaven food i used to not understand) along with how to get a working economy and best startup/ later game armies

I thought a “Skaven for dummies” video would be helpful for dummies like me. I feel even dumber after watching this.
dummies translation: use slaves to hold the no-furs in place and then shoot all of them down.
it's good if the skavenslave unit stays alive at the end, but it's really not necessary. You can recruit them in one turn even with global recruitement, you will always have more rats
@@Sir_Bucket Also helpful to know - spread out the formations a bit. Weapon teams don't like trying to shoot through their own men in a melee. Having them off to the side a bit where they have an unobstructed LOS to some enemy models encourages them to fire much more readily.
Good. You're almost ready to play skavens
Put it simple, your skaven slaves, and clan rats are there to be meat shield, they hold the line, use them to create a kill zone for your ranged units.
Ranged units are your main DPS source, start with Plagueclaw, Rattling Gun, and Warplock Jazzles.
Menace below is very useful, even if it spawns just skaven slaves, provide distraction, making foes out of position, or take out artillery units to help front line live longer.

Skaven were the first race I learned how to play and to this day everytime I see them I get so excited. Video idea: races from best to worst for new players! Back when I was getting started deciding on a race was rough because I didn't know their play styles and I bet a lot of new players get frustrated with this.

That happened in my first campaign for skaven. Still, they get plague priest and catapults wich are more than enough to win
He also had a Master Warlock Lord, must have had the DLC

Skaven in a nutshell: first capture region use food to lvl 3. Make plaguecatapults and get skavenslaves. Then make ratatata guns, jezzails and plaguepriests, campaign done:)

Skavens are the best, yes-yes. Though I think that the best Skaven faction in Vortex is Clan Eshin because they don't have to deal with all those rituals.
Nor do the others. The vortex ritual is a trap; just ignore it, build up your economy and armies, and then smack down the race that triggers the vortex battle with your best doomstack. Repeat two more times, and you are set. Do it as Skryre, and you don't even need a doomstack, just a well-placed nuke and Ikit kiting the enemy army to death on his doomwheel while pelting them with Warp Lightning, and then the two AI armies will clean things up for you.
Nice format, cool to get some strategic advice in addition to battle tips.
I'm guessing that they were going for the Steam achievement for 10 Plague Monks, figured that the game was telling them to do that for a good reason, and got frustrated that it wasn't working out.
That last battle was insane.

I love how often I get 'close' victories since I throw waves of slaves to pin the enemy in place as my ratling gunners tear them to pieces, taking no causalities of their own.

Just 3 Minutes in, and i'm sooo confused as to the building choices this guys has made. I like to build clanrats with shield simply for flavor, but you have the bloody Clan Mors HQ in Yuatek which gives you Clanrats with Shields from the very start. No need for Clan Barracks. Yuatek is at Level 4, but has no Weapons Pile or Construction Cavern? And why Skavenslave Slingers? Even Night Runners are better than them...
Because they freaking cheap.
Skavenslave slingers are easily worth their weight in gold for micro noobs and people who don’t really know what their doing
They can drag enemies across the map and cost nothing money wise or micro wise.

Thanks for this, learned a few things I didn't know. That's what I get for just assuming I could figure them out as I played lol.
New to the game, and Total War in general, and Skaven are extremely counter-intuitive if you're used to playing other strategy games. Took me 2 failed campaigns to realize that expanding my territory rapidly was *hurting* me. Usually, rapid expansion in a strategy game means you're kicking ass. Didn't discover the importance of Under-Cities until halfway through losing my 3rd campaign.
Fingers crossed that this will solve my remaining problems...

You need to do a series like this but a little more condensed if possible. Warhammer for Dummies and break down each legendary lord and the strategies around them and what to do with them and what not to do. People would use them as a how to guide. I learned a lot watching this.

By the way I noticed you had a few Crown of Command. They are actually amazing as skaven - making summon unbreakable for 30 sec is very powerful, specially if you have warp bomb

Legend use single strategy for every Skaven faction. The fact that it's working is the issue with balance since everything else is just crap compared to it.
@@madzaisa This isnt even about that. Queek buffs Stormvermin and Clanrats in his army, not plague monks.
It's not that unreasonable.
Plague Monks look like comparatively good infantry on paper; if someone isn't used to Skaven, then pushing them like you might push other budget elite infantry doesn't seem terribly odd, and the sheer power of the Skaven's ranged options isn't always apparant just from the statsheet.
It's a very understandable trap, I think.
This has really helped with my clan eshin campaign as well, ive now killed Malus, krock-gor and that dragon elf. and ive confed with clan mors and have qweek as a lord only thing left is to take the orcs out but grimgors faction is huge now. i've got assassins running around everywhere aswell...please do more of these! getting about 10k a turn now

I think it's okay to keep one barracks at least just to make a bunch of Stormvermin for Queek early game since they're super cheap for his army. Same way you might get a bunch of Plague Monks in Skrolk's army right away. Otherwise yeah
But even with Queek as the army´s commander. Stormvermin are just so incredibly shit, even in the early game, you might as well skip them entirely, save the money instead of spending it on building/upgrading barracks and focus on getting the good stuff asap instead.
@@vahlen5281 Depends on how you play. Nowadays I usually play on Legendary/Normal because the battle difficulty modifers are so bullshit and do nothing but force you into building ranged/magic-based doomstacks which is super boring. So without AI cheats in battle then the whole "all melee units suck" issue is no longer true and then it's viable. I used to play on Legendary/Very Hard for years but honestly I think the game is more fun this way
@@Kuddochan Regardless of the difficulty, nothing changes the fact that ranged/magic spam allows you to win all armies without casualties. Even if Stormvermin actually win their enemies in melee, there is no reason to use them when you can autowin every other battle with weapon teams and plague wizards.
@@soulkutu yeah but you are missing the part where not everyone wants to spam a certain type of unit because that makes most battles monotonous, specially if said units are so strong that they can melt almost any army the ai might sent against you.
I personally have been playing this game since launch and prefer to make my armies diverse in most cases and always try to stay well away from very hard difficulty in battle.
@@soulkutu I've found that the min maxing is not that needed to win at legendary. When the Sisters of slaughter were introduced, I found them incredibly fun to use, and my armies almost always had them. There were hard battles and few losses, but it is far from being impossible or annoying to play, battles felt pretty entertaining.
I never felt pressed into doomstacking by the game, especially if I want to immerse in the world. But then I go with Leuen 10 Hyppos and 8 Gral Guiardians and a Damsel of life, so sometimes it is fun to go on a rampage.

Watching these Skaven gunners mow down medieval infantry is the closest thing to watching Ultramarines in action. Lol

This campaign reminds me of playing WRE in TW: Attila. Gotta triage the multiple massive problems, focus on improving your important provinces, etc.

Anyone have advice for playing clan pestilence I restarted the game a few times, kicking lizardmen an dwarves out of their towers sucks early get when your armies mostly consist of slaves

First time ever watching Legend @3.29 mins I laughed @1.35.48 I subbed.
That last battle was basically a Rambo movie. If Rambo were a skaven.
My normal skaven basic stack rush ratlings 6 of those plus like a lord and 2 plague monks and some slaves will win pretty much anything till like high tier armies (many big units etc).
What do other people do as a basic stack/army? Just curious.
3 engineers 2 priests and then ratling with catapults
I always make my stacks as powerful as possible even in lower turns
Turn 1-50; 2 armies, the legendary lord(ikit in this example), 2 plague priest, 2 warlock engineer s, 2 doomwheels, 3 jezzails, 4 ratling and 4 plague claw catapult
The other army is defense army oriented, the lord, plague priest, 2 plagueclaw catapult, 3 jezzails, 4 ratling and the rest slaves and 90% of the time their in a siege battle on defense
Turn 50-whenever the campaign ends; All my armies have the same set up as ikit but istead of 4 catapults its 2 catapults and 2 warplightning cannons for anti artillery
Lord, usually Grey Seer, Warlock Master only when they have good perks, Plague Priest, Warlock Engineer, 4-5 Clanrats, 3 Ratling Guns, 2 Warplock Jezzails, 3 Artillery Pieces. The rest depends on what i'm facing off against. Big Hordes? Death Globe Bombardiers. Enemy is more ranged focussed? Doomwheels. Lots of Cavalry? Either Stormvermin with Halberds or Hell Pit Abominations.
