why can a Satanist and a Christian have a civil conversation. But a liberal and conservative battle to get a word in just so one can be proven right or wrong but not admit to it? blows my mind.

First off, I'm a devout Christian. Having said this (and this may surprise), I do appreciate this man's character and thoughtfulness in many (but certainly not all) ways. I'm also thoroughly trained in science and theology through the graduate level, and I had to facepalm when he posed the tired, false dichotomy between religion (or more appropriately, transmaterialism, metaphysics, and the supernatural) and science. I could write a treatise on why it's literally impossible for the two to be at odds, and showing how science itself is inescapably founded on many unprovable presuppositions that must be taken on faith, ironically, just like the faith traditions (i.e., world religions). When one understands formal philosophy, logic, and especially epistemology, these things become crystal clear.
Anyways, I'd love to have a conversation with the man. God bless him, and I pray he is given a revelation on repentance and forgiveness. Working in the mental health field, I've seen many aspects of the human condition repeat so often that I know firsthand why they're so axiomatic. One is this: holding onto bitterness and unforgiveness is like swallowing poison and expecting it to hurt someone else; it is an inexorable force that will absolutely catch up with you, eventually, and the havoc it wreaks is horrendous. I hope and pray he never experiences that.

I'd like to explain and go into detail but this comment will be way longer than what it already is, it's been almost 10yrs now and since than I've been on a journey to find God and to become a Christian, I'm just still trying to find myself and doing it in my own way and at my own pace, and I feel that I'm real close. TheHorrorExperiment I almost drowned in the Thames River in Norwich CT. About 9 years ago. It was the day before New Years, the water was 34 degrees, and when our boat sank, I ended up in it. I was in the water for about 7 minutes, all the while fighting the heavy current, filling my coat and forcing me back under.
I finally was resolved I wasn't going to win the fight, and relaxed, and waited for my body to reflexively breathe. I can say, I wasn't alone under that water.
I'm sure I was in shock, but I heard words in my head, and felt a hand on my right shoulder, I was calm, and the words spoken reassured me, that if I stayed put, all would be okay, but if I wanted to try for the surface again, it wasn't just my struggle anymore, and that's what I did.
When I popped up, I felt a hand grab the hood of my wool coat.
I'm not a religious person, and can't say that I am now, but I can tell you this, when we die, that's not the end, and I'd imagine how you live your life, determines who's hand is on your shoulder in a time of need.

I think Jesse's being a bit delusional about this whole father bit.
This guy hasn't forgiven his father and doesn't want anything to do with him because he was a shitty human being.
That doesn't make him an alcoholic and abusive to women because he doesn't want to be around his biological father, who did.
I don't know where this kind of ideology is coming from but it has no merit.

@Wally West Right!! It's like he's trying to resurface something that often wasn't there or didn't mean anything. This guy kept telling Jesse my biological father wasn't there and meant nothing to me. I had a real father there and active. My personal thoughts on the matter is.... If I have a Lamborghini a Aston Martin and a Lykan hypersport in your driveway. You don't get worked up about someone stealing your Geo Metro. By the way for the Christians here remember... Joseph wasn't the biological father of Jesus Christ. And from what I understand he did a pretty good job.

      ARE SEVEN FUNDAMENTAL TENETS.
One should strive to act with compassion and empathy towards all creatures in accordance with reason.
The struggle for justice is an ongoing and necessary pursuit that should prevail over laws and institutions.
One’s body is inviolable, subject to one’s own will alone.
The freedoms of others should be respected, including the freedom to offend. To willfully and unjustly encroach upon the freedoms of another is to forgo one's own.
Beliefs should conform to our best scientific understanding of the world. We should take care never to distort scientific facts to fit our beliefs.
People are fallible. If we make a mistake, we should do our best to rectify it and remediate any harm that may have been caused.
Every tenet is a guiding principle designed to inspire nobility in action and thought. The spirit of compassion, wisdom, and justice should always prevail over the written or spoken word.

The Satanist has a more Christian understanding of forgiveness than Peterson's' brand of Christianity. You cannot give forgiveness to someone who doesn't ask for it. At the heart of true biblical forgiveness is reconciliation. You cannot give something to someone without them receiving it. You may ATTEMPT to forgive but if the other party does not accept it (they did not repent of it) then forgiveness hasn't taken place.

Devon Schmidt think about it this way, and I say this as someone who lived with a similar problem, would you ever really be happy having that heaviness in your heart? Not loving your father, making him not exist to you? Replacing him? In the end, that heaviness is still in your heart, it’s in my heart right now holding me down because for some reason I can’t bring myself to reach out to my dad and forgiving him for walking out on me and my mom when I was 2. I don’t know if it’s pride, or anger, probably both, but listening to all of these people tell their stories I can see a pattern, Devon. Even Tina Fey joked about it on a tv show where she placed a drunk psychologist and she told her patient “let’s skip the ten years of therapy. It’s your mom and your dad. It’s always your parents, go talk to her.”
Jesse keeps telling people to do the same thing. Forgive your mom, forgive your dad, move on with love in your heart. When you think about it like that, it’s a really beautiful thing. And somehow it’s helping me come to terms with the fact that I have to forgive my father.

    • @anarchyintheusa4443
      @anarchyintheusa4443 Před 5 lety +1

@@dannyphantom907 I'm not saying parents and childhood don't affect your psychology. They certainly do. I'm saying there are people who are better off that a parent left. My dad for example was raised by a step dad and he doesn't see his biological dad as his actual father. Hes actually glad he left and let him have a real parent. He had no interest in meeting him but his mom and my mother insisted that he did and all it did was help reaffirm the way he felt. That's not to say you shouldn't forgive your dad if that will help you move on. All the power to you. On the other hand forgiving him doesn't mean he has to be a part of your life if you don't want him to be. I'm just saying it's possible to be a well adjusted human being without your "real parent" in your life.

@AntonioKowatsch But that's the thing, his stepfather isn't his real father. That's the point Jesse was making, and it's a vitally important point to realize. The guy suffers from anger and hatred, and that has ruined his life, though he might think otherwise. God wants the guy to be well and to live a healthy life. His anger and hatred over his daddy issues is preventing this for him.
