FIXED!! Hi there! I asked a week or so ago about doming resin, and what would be best for my wooden trays. I have trouble with Amazing Clear Cast not coating the sides properly. I switched to Envirotex and VOILA! Problem solved, and I also find that it cures to a harder finish much faster than the Amazing Clear Cast. Thank you for your wonderful website!! Very informative about the products that are out there. Can't figure out how to post a picture though. Waaaaahhhh.
Thanks for the info! Some really great advice. :)
Hi, thanks for your informative video. I have a project and don't know which resin to use. I want to cover a tray which has objects on it with resin. I dont want the resin to come up the sides of the objects, like a lip. Would doming resin be a better choice?
Yes, it would! This is the doming resin I would use for a project like this: shop.resinobsession.com/collections/resin/resin-obsession-artwork-resin
Didn't know there was a difference. Thx for this info.
So can you give some examples of good brands of doming resins and casting resins?
This video was very informative.. I want to use epoxy on some photo military tags.. So should I use AllumIlite clear cast?
Hi Nicole, since it sounds like you want to coat the tags, you definitely want to use a doming resin. You can buy the Alumilite amazing clear cast in our store here:
shop.resinobsession.com/collections/resin/alumilite
Thank you!
So if I did a acrylic paint pour over a coster I made are you saying I should use a doming resin to cover it ? And thank you for your time you took to show all your subscribers this info really great
Yes, a doming resin is what you want to use.
Thank you. This is very helpful.
You're welcome!
Perfect timing for this video. I want to pour it on a tile. Does it matter which I use? Thanks so much!
Yes, since the tile doesn't have sides, you will want to use a doming resin.
@@ResinObsession I'm glad I asked. Thank you very much
Hi. And thanks for the great information. I am still getting confused on what to use on my project. Maybe its because I don't have that many options on what to use. I have come across words like Resin and Epoxy or Epoxy Resin. And then Doming and Casting Resin. Anyway, I have this project for wine glasses. What can I use to cover the glass stem after putting glitter on it? Looks like the Mod Podge isnt enough...
HI Tom, I've got a guide here that explains resins and which one is best for your project: bit.ly/3mxFmGT
@@ResinObsession Thanks for the guide. i am pretty excited. It is very helpful and I feel like a pro now.
Excellent demo...…..thank you!
PS...….I cant wait to receive all my resin powders and flakes to arrive...…:)
Yeah! Awesome!
now would I use casting resin to do coaster that I don't want domed? I like that you explain the differences.
Hi Margaret, are you making the coaster with a mold or some other way?
@@ResinObsession I'm using cutters and polymer clay
Can you pls tell me how can I dome a Pyramid? For after doming it, I had certain places in which it left a sort of dripping. Hope I explained myself well and thanks
Hi Jo, you will need to dome one side at a time.
Question for you if you don't mind. The left was "...amazing clear CAST" but that is a doming resin you said. By the name id have guessed it was a casting resin. So how will I know for sure what is the doming stuff if/when using other brands? I'd happily consider your products in the future but wanna use up what I do already have. Do they clearly label resins as "Doming Resins"? I just assumed anything thicker (high viscosity) is good for doming but it doesn't seem resin makers list any standard metric for where there resin lies. Ive assumed I was in the clear just by using a casting resin but giving it time to thicken up and then pour. Any problems you can think of with that approach?
Thanks for your video it gave me lots to think about! Doming always looks so easy when I see others do it but I so often manage to screw it up somehow haha
Hi would doming resin have better anti scratch properties? I would like to dome alphabets but apparently the casting resin that i use seem to have scratches more easily.. do u have any recommendations or advise in what resin i shld use thats scratch resistant?
Hi Ariel, it depends on the doming resin, but it has been my experience that casting resins cure harder.
ResinObsession thank u. Do u have a doming resin to recommend that is scratch resistant?
Can you just let any epoxy resin sit a bit until it starts to cure/thicken slightly?
Is casting resin more durable/sets harder than doming resin? I used doming resin to make rings and they seem to get flexible and more like stiff rubber as your body heats up the ring.
Yes, Luke casting resin cures harder. You can buy it in our store here: shop.resinobsession.com/collections/resin/casting
Thanks very usefull video.
Glad it was helpful!
have you ever tried the UV doming epoxy? is it any good?
No, I haven't tried that.
Hi I bought recently bought casting resin and I need to use in small projects like those Dominos what shall I do now, it's so runny that it keeps dripping. I did not know before what are the difference 😢 Please suggest something so that I can work with it.
Hi Knack Lab, our super clear resin works great for making resin dominoes. You can buy it in our store here: shop.resinobsession.com/collections/resin/resin-obsession-super-clear-resin
does a doming can be torch? or it is self leveling?
Doming resin formulas self-level. You can buy several kinds of doming resin in our store here: shop.resinobsession.com/collections/resin/doming
I have resin for craft. I used it for my art pieces and was left with soooo many fish eyes. How can I fix this. Three of my art pieces are ruined with fish eyes. From AnnaMarie Ireland
Hi AnnaMarie, I'm sorry this happened to you. This article explains how to fix fish eyes: www.resinobsession.com/resin-frequently-asked-questions/how-to-fix-dimples-in-epoxy-resin/
..lol..so the Amazing Clearcast is a doming resin, even tho the name has CAST in it?? Wow, now I’m really confused.....also, many resins don’t specify whether it is a casting or a doming resin.....how do we know??
Hi Cathy, it is kind of confusing isn't it? The best way is to ask the manufacturer. Otherwise, if it's a resin sold on Resin Obsession, we have that information for you: shop.resinobsession.com/collections/resin
What kind of glass you use to mix the resin?
I'm not sure I understand your question. You don't use glass to mix the resin.
I mean to say which container you use?
I use these plastic mixing cups: shop.resinobsession.com/collections/tools-and-supplies/products/1-ounce-reusable-plastic-mixing-cups
Thanks
Welcome!
what type of resin do i need for doming ?
Hi Alhaji, we have doming resins for sale in our store here: shop.resinobsession.com/collections/resin/doming
Can a doming resin be used like a table top
Hi Thomas, yes, you can use doming resins for coating tabletops.
Which is best for jewelry?
For doming or casting?
Like will you be using a mold, bezel or something else?
Is doming resin also called coating resin ?
Yes, you may hear it called a coating resin.
1. Can you pour a layer of doming resin on the surface do a piece made from casting resin I’d you want a dome on it? 2. What if you want your resin to coat the sides of your art piece, should you use a casting or doming resin?
Yes, you should be able to put a doming resin on the surface of a casting resin. Use 'like for like'. i.e. if you used an epoxy casting resin, then cover with an epoxy doming resin. For the sides of an art piece, you should use a doming resin.
I have some resins that say they are both doming and casting .
Hi Susan, unfortunately some manufacturers will promote their resins as both, when they really aren't. In my opinion, any resin that can be used for doming purposes is not suitable for casting.
I am doing wooden trays. I've been using Alumilite Amazing Clear Cast but have been very disappointed with the sides! Perhaps I should use a doming resin instead? Can you advise on products? Thank you!
Hi, Amazing clear cast is a doming resin. What is it not doing that you were hoping to accomplish?
It's dripping down the sides. I have to do multiple pours. Then I have to sand the sides and the bottom. I am looking for a "bar top" effect.
And... thank you for the reply :)
