    It really does not even need to be a QB cap, just an individual cap limit of 10% or something like that. Similar to the max contracts in Basketball. I mean when you are 1 of 55 + 16 for the practice squad. So 1 of 71. So each player is 1.408% of the roster, If a player earns 10% of the money that is like saying they are 7.1 times more valuable than an average player. Since an average player should earn 1.408% of the cap in a fair world. However, as we all know, the world is not fair. I also think that the NFL needs to start setting aside some of the revenue for life long medical and retirement programs that pay out based on the position that they played (to determine injury rates, quality of life after football, and life expectancy) multiplied by a factor for years or games played. For instance, guys in positions that are a meat grinder like linemen, linebackers, and running backs should get more compensation post career than a punter or kicker that has much less wear and tear and will generally live longer. Basically this should work similar to how life insurance works, each individual gets a rate based on their games played, injuries sustained, and the effect of their positional athletic profile on life expectancy and quality of life after football. Whatever that number is their family should get the payout on if they pass away early.

    I agree with the idea of "QB Salary Cap". The present NFL is built on the sacrifice of say the special team, rookie players for 5 years, and a very small amount of money spent for the players compared to what the teams are making. Cap should be regularly raised, QB cap should stay for say 5 years. Teams should raise the funds for retirement by replacement and injuries and so forth. We need healthy players as well as the operation of the pro sports Americans love.

  • @kwamearhin2800
    @kwamearhin2800 Před 13 dny +3

    The QB cap won't help teams in anyway. It would just lead to WRs, DEs, LTs etc. making more money. For example, Justin Jefferson would have demanded $45m instead of $35m in a QB cap league. The reason for this is that the forces driving up QB salaries are the same forces driving up WR, LT, DE, CB etc. salaries. A team would not have better chance of building a good roster just because QBs are forced to make less. Teams would still compete for players at positions where there is no cap. Ultimately, it is the competition for players that drives up prices.

    • @fysean

      @kwamearhin2800 Před 12 dny +1

      @@kiaadams104 It doesn't matter if other positions don't need hikes. The CBA between the NFL and the NFLPA stipulates that a certain fraction of league revenue MUST be spent on players. So, saving on QB salaries doesn't save a team any money. Teams would still have to spend the money on other players on the team. It doesn't improve the competitiveness of any team. It just artificially redistributes wealth from QBs to other positions.

    With the money the NFL is making each year there should not even be a discussion about caps. There is no cap in MLB, and the revenue for baseball is way less than it is for football. There is a luxury tax but no cap. Football has a minor league system at the Football Universities across the country that costs nothing to develop players, while baseball does have professional minor leagues for development purposes tied to various franchises. Team turnover is strictly an ownership cost savings tactic, that the NFLPA should address since the average career length has shrunk by more than 20% in a decade, shucks since the rookie cap went into effect. Stop the cap discussions, start arguing for no caps and fully guaranteed contracts which are in MLB and the NBA.
