Even if I’m not a huge fan oh halo 5, seeing you play through it and engage with the universe is always a joy

Yep. It’s worth noting that John _hates_ having to fight UNSC soldiers, especially when they are just following orders. Remember when he accidentally killed those ODSTs Post-Augmentations and how guilty he felt about it? He only took Locke seriously when it became clear holding back could cost the mission, and then that was all she wrote.
Thankfully neither was trying to kill the other,that is the main point people miss about this game.

Fun fact. In Halo 2's terminals they reference Meridian. Regret's Elites went there to retrieve a luminary that pointed to Earth. In Chief's fight with Locke you can tell he goes easy on Locke. Chief could easily take down Locke but he doesn't because he won't hurt somebody from the UNSC especially a fellow Spartan. Its a neat detail and adds to Chief as a character. Buck mentioned New Alexandria. If you remember back to Halo Reach its where you evacuated the civilians and the city you saw get destroyed by the Covenant. He was there when the city was glassed. Even though I don't enjoy this game I still like seeing others enjoy it. I love a lot of this game my only gripe I ever had was the story. The characters are great and some of the story elements were great. I actually like Meridian and the distrust the people have showing that not everyone trusts the UNSC but they also aren't insurrectionists. And Sloan is an interesting character I like that he is an ai and that he is suffering from rampancy. 5 has some decent story elements.
I’m glad you like this game, even if I don’t. My problems stem from the fact it doesn’t feel like Halo, and the direction of the story. Despite it not feeling like Halo, I do like most of characters and the music has grown on me.
For me its just the story. The characters are great, the combat is great, the cinematics are great, the graphics and art are great. The story feels off but the rest is great.
@@crazyguy_1233 I like gameplay, I genuinely do, but it doesn’t feel like Halo, same goes for the artstyle and music, and even weapons and sound effects.
I just realized they put alot of exposition during gameplay instead of all in the cutscenes.
Yeah a lot of random stuff is just said when explosions are going off. The cutscenes are hit or miss for me, one could have solid dialouge and advance the plot. Then you get a cutscene with barely any conversation and it feels like the end it to soon and your left thinking "umm ok keep going".
Yeah, that "you're not the only here because of him." definitely isn't as clear cut as they probably thought it was. I interpret it as 'Locke knows this isn't the right call, but he's not paid to decide what's right or not, he's just here to do a job'. Chief of course, has enemies, few as they are, but where he has enemies, they REALLY want him dead.
There is a lot of heated debates about the Locke vs Chief fight. A lot of people were mad that Chief didn't just basically break Locke's spine and beat him to a pulp with 0 effort, some are mad that the fight seems so slow. Many seem to forget that Chief isn't a cold blooded killer, even going AWOL, he's not going to just lash out and attack something for no reason. He still sees Fireteam Osiris as allies, at most, he'll just disable them. Chief held back a LOT.
It is curious though, nanotech is incorporated in so much, you'd think that the visor would be coated in it. Yet I don't believe it ever self repairs.
But yes, Halo 5 I believe suffered from really strange pacing. Almost like it didn't know how quickly or slowly to approach the next point.
I assumed that the "you're not the only here because of him." quote was about how on 3 separate occasions, Master Chief saved all of humanity from extinction.

Chief and locke’s fight… I want to believe that Chief was mostly toying with him. Playing for time. But watching it again it does seem that 343 wanted us to see them as equals.
They are not.
The fight is just goofy. Way too clunky for a fight between super soldiers.

Master chief is born and raised spartan II while locke is spartan IV, with chiefs experience locke wouldn´t stand a chance 343 didn´t do chief justice also it looks too clunky
I love the Meridian levels. It’s so interesting to me that Spartans were originally meant to kill people like those colonists, and here they’re walking among them, helping them. Poetic.

I think the story was only poorly received as a failure in marketing. The promotion material leading up to this kept focusing on the showdown between Chief and Locke only for any direct confrontation between them being limited to a short noninteractive cutscene. There was way more in the story they could've advertised.
No, it wasn’t poorly received only for a false advertising, it was because the story was horribly bad anyway. At least as a Halo story.
They lost me because of the lack of couch co-op. That's kind of a dealbreaker for me.
There's actually a short story featuring Evelyn Collins, the woman whose transmission you picked up as you fled Meridian, it's called "What Remains" and it's part of the anthology book "Halo: Fractures"

The ending statement is exactly why you're my favorite Halo 5 playthrough to date. You lack most of the problematic biases seen within the Halo Community (such as the over glorification of Master Chief and Spartan 2's, and the discrediting of Locke and Spartan 4's, which contains a much more inclusive representation.) Plus, you offer a place for those that are marginalized to be welcome. Thank you for seeing how wonderful this game actually is and keep fighting the good fight, spartan. :)
What over glorification are you referring to? The Spartan 2’s are the best of the three successful Spartan generations (2’s, 3’s, & 4’s) Any Spartan 2 and most 3’s would body 99.9% of the 4’s. Very few 4’s would be as good as the previous generations.

1 ) The fact that people are championing child soldiers while discrediting spartan 4's which are consensual adults deciding to be spartans,
2) Spartan 2's are not the best. They are the most physically augmented. But master chief fighting and defeating against enemies far superior to himself physically should tell you that physical prowess is only one part of the fight. But that would go against much of the Halo fanbase wanting to put Spartan 2's and Master Chief on the chosen one pedestals.
@@Leo619858 Spartan 2's are absolutely the best. Thats just an undeniable fact told by the lore itself. Its not just physical prowess that puts them on top but also their mental prowess which is where most of their victories come from. The 4's are much more formable than most of the community gives them credit for but the truth is that they simply aren't as capable as the 2's or even 3's but the UNSC is okay with the drop in overall effectiveness since it lets them get away from having to use child soldiers.
@@mekboy7403 No where in the lore does it indicate that Spartan 2's receive higher mental augmentations than later generation. Just like no where in the Lore does it state that Spartan 2's are the best. The only canon information is that Spartan 2's received higher physical augmentation. In contrast have the Spartan 4's have GEN 2 suit which receives an increase in physical prowess over the GEN 1 suit to make up for that. Everything I've seen has mostly pointed to physical augmentations.
More so, a superior opponent does not make one the best. As I mentioned, Master Chief has defeated individuals far superior to himself, while Locke was able to go toe to toe with Master Chief. 343 has specifically stated they wanted Locke and Master Chief to appear as equals.
Hence my point that it's not about the generation, it's about the individuals. There are some grest Spartan 2's, 3's, and 4's and they all deserve a seat at the table to be accepted.
@@Leo619858 By mental prowess I'm talking about how each of the 2's were the best and brightest the UNSC could find then given the best training and best education to make them some of the greatest minds in the UNSC to the point that each of them are actual geniuses and their tactical acumen let them stand up against entire Covenant armies often by themselves countless times for 30 years with very few losses until Reach.
The books don't shy away from telling us the 2's are the best and about how the other generations compare to the 2's. 3's are close but are slightly weaker, a bit smaller, aren't quite as well trained or educated and most surviving 3's have relatively little experience. 4's explicitly have inferior augmentations and do rely on Gen 2 but the other generations also used Gen 2 so there was still a gap in performance between them and the 2's and 3's. Buck himself after becoming a 4 ranks them as under the 3's. The 2's being better doesn't mean the 3's and 4's aren't exceptional soldiers because they absolutely are, its just that they other simply haven't been able to hit the peaks the 2's hit. Thats all.
There is a movie that shows some backstory on Locke. Most fans considers it meh but I thought it was pretty good. Definitely not as good as Forward Unto Dawn. It's called Halo Nightfall.
The hatred people have for this game definitely comes from the false advertising. There are good qualities in this game and it looks amazing but it deffo hurt how the game is viewed. I'm glad you're able to enjoy it without any expectations, I can imagine it makes it way more fun. Looking forward to the next ep and eventually infinite.
@@NickTemperistic the multiplayer in 5 was pretty great. They fumbled Halo 4’s multiplayer
@NickTemperistic 4 has a good campaign and bad multiplayer and 5 is the opposite. While infinites launch was slow at the start it at least a has both the campaign and multiplayer done right.
@@Rocco049 If you started playing Halo during or after Halo 4 you will think that. It is better than Halo 4/Infinite's multiplayer but still bad. Only good thing I can say about it is Warzone and the pistol.
@@zqasadioz A good campaign doesn't keep people playing it though. Halo 5 PvP had horrible maps, terrible weapon balancing, terrible btb with no vanilla maps, and random rng brainless SBMM. Infinite is a trainwreck in regards to the live service. Yes the gameplay is kind of fun but it's ruined by cheaters, horrible servers, brainless SBMM, boring maps, no new weapons, no new vehicles, etc. I'm not going to get into it any more than that due to me already having talked about it extensively on my channel.
I feel like there is alot to love about both teams but if we're looking at Osiris, Locke is interesting with his hunter history and I'm looking forward to any future content revolving around him, I love Vale the most due to her love for the Sangheili as well as her armour, I love Buck like most people so it's nice to see more of him with this game. One thing I loved about this game is that we got to play as Blue Team for the first time and with that I hope we get to see more of the other Spartan teams in Halo although I can see many not liking this idea but personally I'd love to see Grey Team content however unlikely.
Its so wonderful seeing you enjoy halo 5 so much. It really is such a fun game and everything about the mechanics, from the teammates to the guns, really does feel so fluid and natural. Cant wait for you to play more already!

Hi Meg, I just want to say that it is cool that you decided to actually play H5 and not skipping it. As heated as the discussion can be with this game, it is worth playing for the overall story and the gameplay (which is super unique for the franchise and mega fun), not to mention that you are creating you own opinions and thoughts on it.
I also want to add, since we're on the topic of skipping content: do *not* sleep on Halo Wars, those two games are amazing and Halo Wars 2 is super important for Halo Infinite, probably just as important as Halo 5 itself, hope you can find a way to experience them even if it is just watching the cutscenes, you will not be disappointed, I promise! And finally, there's a Halo web series called Halo: Nightfall which is about Locke before he was a Spartan, also worth watching :)
With that said, I want to apologize to both you and your mods because on the first part I made a joke where I pretended I'd "hate on your opinion" but I didn't consider it was tasteless and inappropiate giving the context of the game, your approach on it and the overall expectations of/for your community. So yeah, I'm sorry, I'll do better and from now on, I will try to do my part to help keep this a safe space with my comments.

The only gripe I really had about Halo 5 was how slow and... boring the Locke and Chief fight was. Before that Halo 5 there was a fanmade Halo web series called Red vs Blue doing some of the most incredible fight scenes I've ever seen, and the fact that an entire game development team couldn't make better choreography than a fan made comedy webseries made better fights for years upsets me a little bit
Eagerly anticipated the next part, and it didn't disappoint! 😄
This game's skyboxes are simply gorgeous. Combine that with the atmospheric ambience and it really feels like a world that's alive. I remember the first time I played through this game, Meridian felt really big to me, like I could easily get lost. The idea of an AI governor is really cool on 343's part, I really enjoy Sloan's character. 🥰
I can't speak to other difficulties, but on normal the Prometheans are so fun to fight. I didn't mind them in 4, but it did feel like I was mainly sniping from a distance most of the time. This game really feels like 343 took everything about 4's enemys and combat and just refined them. Add in the new abilities and this seems like a game that would take multiple playthroughs to really get a grasp on using every ability in combat, which is so cool!
Watching you play through this game has made me realize just how much combat dialogue the Promethean enemies have, I don't think I noticed it as much in my playthrough. They're just as entertaining to listen to as the Covenant in this game. 😆
I know the big elephant in the room is the Chief vs Locke fight, which I will admit I wish was a bit faster paced. But I really don't think these two characters were _truly_ trying to fight to seriously hurt the other. So from that perspective, it doesn't annoy me near as much as it may most others.
I can't wait to see your opinions on what's in store for the next missions. There's so many great moments ahead! ☺️

Halo 5’s gameplay is honestly super fun! It’s fast paced, dynamic and very immersive. Love to see you getting very into it ❤

The "Dog" Prometheans dragging people around is pretty crazy...Honestly the main reason people say to skip this game is part of the story is very...Alot is missing lets say

I don't think a Reaper would be able to stand up to a Guardian in a 1v1, but in an all out war I could see Reapers juuuuust scraping by.
As a massive H5 fan, it’s so refreshing to see someone play this without bias or the general ignorance that a lot of classic halo fans carry, and just have fun!

Just because you like something doesn't make it flawless and there are a lot of flaws in this game, but that doesn't mean you can't enjoy it or need to act like others are ignorant somehow for having criticism.

I still cannot get past how inaccurate that fight is, Masterchief would’ve been way too fast and strong for Locke to keep up with. Not even taking his reflexes into account either. There is a reason why Dr Halsey doesn’t consider Spartan 4’s as real Spartans.
If Chief was wearing his Mark 6 Gen 1 he would have won pretty quick but both Locke and Cheif are wearing Gen 2 armor which limits the Spartans wearing it
I'm so glad you're enjoying Halo 5 so far! This game got so much more hate than it deserved imo. My partner worked on this game and as a long time Halo fan myself(i read the books and played Halo since the age of 8) it's genuinely so refreshing to have a non-hostile perspective on Halo 5. I love Halo but Halo 5 did definitely try to expand to everyone but it unfortunately alienated and kinda weirdly changed the universe in a way that needed Halo Infinite to just clean it up

Actually, Mike Colter (who played Luke Cage) did do the voice for Spartan Locke.
I believe he only voiced him for the cutscene in Halo 2 Anniversary. In Halo 5 he’s actually voiced by Ike Amadi🫡
@@Wernissage Well, on Colter's Wiki page it says he voiced Spartan Locke for both games. It could be that they both voiced Locke, but I'm not sure.

Yea idk if anyone has told you but if you want to know more about Locke then youd need to watch Halo Nightfall and i think some more trailers for Halo 5? Of course the books especially in how Buck went from a ODST to a Spartan.
The Chief is capable of killing a Spartan 4 with one punch or two, if he does it with the Brutes, Elites and Hunters in the games. Furthermore, a Spartan 2 is three times as superior as a Spartan 4 according to the books.
Halo 5 is over hated it’s such a fun game and has the best gameplay in the entire series

I don't think what spartans faced is comparable to xenophobia, I've always seen it as the opposite. Even with Spartan IV's being more common they're still rare, and if they show up it means that there's serious trouble. People are genuinely surprised when they see a spartan hence their reaction
I think she will end up liking this one. The majority of what made the game "bad" is the bad marketing, teases and lies leading up to the game that resulted in nothing. Her going in blind is the best way to play it!
Halo 5 gets a lot of unwarranted hate though some of the hate us still warranted it's still worth playing through as a halo fan imo.

This is my favorite Halo game to replay through. Infinite is my favorite story, but gameplay & set piece wise, Halo 5 takes it for me.
I don't like the way the story is leading with this game, but you're free to enjoy. nobody has to like or not something. if you're happy with the game then great for you, really
