Yeah I do agree that the new ghost design looks a little goofy. The old one looks like something you’d actually see someone wearing in the military.

The Mega Man thing is actually an interesting story. That Mega Man in SFV is actually called Mega Man in Japanese as well instead of Rock Man because he's a reference to some really bad American box art for the original game. He's not actually the character from any of the games called Mega Man in the west, but a separate joke character that uses the western name for "Rock Man"
There actually is a further story behind this. The reason why Mega Man looks so terrible on the US box art is because the first Mega Man game was expected to flop in the west, so they just got some random artist to draw the box art with no time, budget or good reference.
Fortunately they rectified this with a pretty cool European box.
The Lara Croft one isn't a Tomb Raider she's a Grave Robber
343 didn't like what Halo already was and so their awful H4 and 5 redesign was just a product of that. I do love how Chief looks in Infinite tho.
Infinites Master Chief is the best one in my opinion
Cheifs Halo 4 look is probably my second favorite of his.

Also, Infinite is a mix of 343 and Bungie. It’s actually pretty heavily influenced by 5, and probably is the best art style to date. 🤷♂️
Okay so for the master chief one. It took me a bit but I do like it now. But the biggest issue is that it needed better explanation. I actually thought it would be cool if the first level of Halo 4 was Chief having to fight in his older, damaged armor to get to the armory where Cortanas been working on a new suit. Then we get there, get the new suit, and then we get all the extra abilities. I think the armor would be much more accepted.
For Shaundi for Saints Row, I think the personality change would have worked if she had the care free attitude during the bank robbery and plane scene before what happened to Johnny. Then the change could be blamed on that
The Rainbow 6 bit doesn't really fit here. All crossovers skins are supposed to be the operator cosplaying as the licensed character. So the Nier one is Maverick without facial hair and white hair, and the Lara Croft one is just Ash with sunglasses.
The lara croft original sprite was actually part of my media exam lol. It was part of a question like "How do character designs draw in viewers, and is the goal of Lara Croft's design to appeal to the male fantasy?"
That's probably several questions amalgamated together from my jumbled memory, but I remember the question talking about "The male fantasy"

13:30 Ironically, aside from the slimmer, military-inspired Eggman, Knuckles was considered one of the best characters from the Boom franchise.
18:47 IIRC, someone at Ninja Theory stated that they tried to make the reboot Dante closer to the original but was told somewhere in the lines of "we wouldn't be asking you to make a new one if you're gonna be making it similar to the original".
26:40 On the opposite end, one of the best Lara designs I saw was in one of the Final Fantasy mobile games which seems to be the original Lara but with some elements of the reboot Lara incorporated.
I heard the reason Pikachu was made thinner was because that way, he'd be easier to animate.
The reason Wolf became a cyborg in future games, but reverted to his original design in Zero, is because he WAS a cyborg. If you follow the hard path in Starfox 64, even if you hadn’t previously fought his team on the easy path, they all come with new cybernetic enhancements and new ships, which they hope will let them win this time.
Zero is a remake of 1/64, so it makes sense that he doesn’t have his cyborg design yet.

Kinda surprised you didn't bring up Nemesis in the RE3 Remake.
Technically, that wasn’t a Mega Man redesign, it was a funny take on how US did the look for Mega Man on the box art for Mega Man 1. The first real redesign for Mega Man was with MMX. Then we have other MM-games such as Battle Network that has completely redesigned Mega Man. Though if I were to include one redesign of Mega Man that is/was a bit scuffed then it would be Mega Man from Marvel vs Capcom Infinite.
Coming from a die hard OG Ghost fan, reboot Ghost is significantly better design and character wise. OG Ghost was just Craig Fairbrass/Gaz in a mask and that's all. Reboot Ghost actually feels like an elite task force soldier, and gives the character an arc to go through from MW1 to MW2 (and as a bonus. it pays homage to the original Ghost comic back from 2009).

I grown up with the Skylanders version of Spyro and I like the design. Personally I like most the designs because most of them are pretty great.

I’ve always said that all the suit needed was a couple lines of dialogue from Cortana and it would’ve fixed some of the controversy. ‘While you were sleeping I used the ship’s equipment synthesizers to upgrade your armor based on proposed enhancements for future Spartan programs. It was a classified ONI project but I took the liberty to download it the last time we were on Cairo Station. I may have also added a few tweaks of my own.’
Honestly the DMC version of dante was not so bad. Dante’s hair turns a little bit white as he gets his demonic powers unlocked in the end of the game, so at least it comes back around. Plus when you activate his devil trigger, his hair is also white. However, I will say it is weird they didn’t make vergil the same way in the flashbacks of them as kids.
Halo 5 was the worst Redesign i've ever seen
The Donkey Kong in the arcade became Cranky Kong and DK Jr is apparently now Funky Kong. The Country Kong is DK the Third and Arcade Kong's grandson.
What about Isaac Clark looking completely different in Dead Space two and in Dead Space one?

I agree, ghosts new design does not look good. Id argue it looks obnoxious and silly and allot like other comments seen, not anything someone would actually wear, and from experience, can vouch: that isn’t something anybody would wear. But then again we are talking about the same company that includes furry skins in kit and cant even get the “endowment pack” to look akin to actual people despite that money allegedly going to disabled vets:p
SF x Tekken actually added in box art megaman as a celebration of the megaman series! As during the time of the development things were at an all time high for the character, before the... crushing, crushing lows of the following years, with the only megaman of substantial note coming out in that time being... SF x Tekken megaman LOL, it kinda backfired on the developers parts
1:35 technically it would be an alternate universe, not timeline. Every universe only has 1 timeline and to say you're from a different timeline means you're from a different universe, because if the timeline was altered then your memory of a Mandela effect would be rewritten anyway. Therefore, you'd have to be from a different universe to have any memory of a different timeline.

I don't know if I am the first to say this in the comments, but Wolf in Star Fox 64 also had a cyborg form if you take out Star Wolf on Fortuna, then i don't remember if they show up on Bolse Observatory as Cyborgs, but I know that they do for sure show up as Cyborgs after engaging in the Venom Armada right before Fox goes into the Venom core, they ahow show up as Cyborgs.
While the standard Power Suit in Metroid Fusion is popular with fans today, the Varia Suit from the same game is universally considered to be an eyesore. The colours and crunched pixel art have earned it the name of “The Puke Suit”.
Another Metroid one is that in Metroid Other M they just straight up removed the unique design for the Gravity Suit. I kinda understand why they did it since it had always just been a recolour of the Varia Suit with a pretty bad colours, but I much prefer the approach starting in Samus Returns where they gave it a unique model and made the purple colouring more dominant and vibrant.

I'm pretty fine with Chief's changes. I grew accustomed to all of them and never really disliked them.
MW2 Ghost however I'll always prefer the original over the weird underbite look in the new game. He's a really great character, just not a good design.
Master Chief's redesign in the first two 343 games is not Halo. It looks like something from G.I Joe or something. It was far too over designed.

The halo 4 redesigns for the UNSC are pretty good I like the Spartans, Vehicles and weapons and the Marines too but in 5 for me is were they all started to look like plastic.
Infinite had that Perfect blend of Reach and 5 giving you the detailed armour and Weapons of Reach but the vibrancy of 5.

I personally like love the redesign of Master Chief. It’s the design I grew up with, and I like his sleek looking armor. The orange visor also looks rather nice.

Ah the Halo 4 redesign. Everyone hated the changes. I enjoyed it.
Dante's redesign in DmC is top notch. It seems to be based on the younger Johnathan Rhys Meyers,
during his "Mission Impossible" days and sporting a bad boy attire. The old one just could not be taken
seriously with that preposterous grandma meets sideshow circus appearance. As the character himself
put it: "Not in a million years!".
A lot of the characters in the thumbnail look unironically great.. how could you think remake Spyro or mega Man X look awful?!?

I always love the Master Chief redesigned, there's just something that I find satisfying about it. My love for detailed armor pieces has been contented with 343, even tho most of the design for Halo 5 went too far in this direction. I honestly was pretty disappointed when they went back to Halo 2's armor in Infinite 😅
Also, at the beginning of Halo 4, didn't Cortana said that she modified Chief's armor during his sleep or something like that ?

I like both the ghost designs but I don't consider them the same person, i always will love the original cause that's our boy but I respect the new one and like what they did with it

I'm going to be in the minority here but I honestly don't think many, if any of these are that bad... except Master Chief. 343i completely butchered the classic design on Chief. Although saying that, Chief in Halo Infinite looks pretty awesome. Maybe even better than Halo 2 & 3. Maybe.

I like the sonic boom redesigns and I wish the sonic boom series could still exist alongside the main series. Rise of lyric is a great game and the major glitches got patched
