- Our first rehearsal of "Price" (Kaneshiro's Palace music) from Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 5, composed by Shoji Meguro, and this version arranged by Patrick Bartley.
You requested it (well, we kinda did too), and now it's here! This is one of greatest tracks in the entire game's OST, and it's SUCH a shame that it's so short on the album - that's why we made this version! I've (Pat) been personally entranced by this song since I first played the game, and I realized something that could be interpreted from the soundtrack: the opening half-time backbeat part is like the bank break-in, sneaking around part, and when it goes into the upbeat rocking part, it's either the rush to escape the bank before the alarms go off, or the alarms already went off and it's time to escape the guards. Either way you look at it, this song fits Kaneshiro's bank PERFECTLY, and hats off to Shoji-san for making such a great backdrop of this palace.
To emphasize those interpretations, we took a lot of creative liberties with this one, adding a soprano sax to emulate the higher lead voice (if someone could tell us what instrument that's supposed to be, that would be great), extending out the form with some new chord changes for the keys and guitar (Aaron Shapiro's first session with us!) to solo, and another reappearance from our boy Norman on drums - the only drummer we know to be able to take such a technically ridiculous drum solo and still make it sound melodic, thematic, and musical. We had a LOT of fun on this one, and we hope you have as much fun as we did! (Bonus post-jam clip of us finishing the song at the end lol)
==============================
Wooo! After nearly a year, we're finally back with another Persona 5 session, and as you can probably already tell, this one is certainly bigger and better than ever before. While we're still learning and getting better at our production skills, we put a lot of time, effort, and hard work into making this session what it is. We're most notably featuring new guests and collaborations for this one in ways that we've never done before, but most importantly, this session was unique because all of you in the community who've been standing by us no matter what. We couldn't have done this without you. Here's to the future!
