Cook up a storm and share mouth-watering, finger-licking goodness with family and friends! The famous Singapore Chilli Crab is a flavourful combination of sweet and spicy chilli crab sauce and easily makes it a (inter)national favourite.
Not to forget, dipping both the crab and the deep fried man tou in the sauce makes for the perfect bite, there's no doing without it! Do take note though, that the man tou browns REALLY fast while deep frying, so a tip from us is to constantly flip them from side to side!
Will it be messy? Yes. Will you cry? Probably. Is it worth it? TOTALLY!
⬇️ Ingredients here ⬇️
2 Mud crabs
5 tbsp Tomato Ketchup
3 tbsp Sugar
1/2 tsp Salt
1 tsp Taucheo (fermented bean paste)
5 tbsp Oil
1 cup Water
2 eggs, beaten

8 garlic
5 red chillies
10 dried chillies (rehydrate)

The best chilli crab demonstration ever thus far.
Yaas, the famous Singapore Chili Crab, thank you for posting!
Thank you for this awesome recipe 👍
Tried this recipe on Sunday…. fantastic 😋😋 great flavour!! Thank you. Even added crabmeat to the balance chillie crab sauce and had it with fried mantou … super great 👍😋😋 thank you again 😊
made this today, turned out really well!! :D thanks for this simple recipe
I love the fast pace of your videos. You make dishes seem so easy to make.
Awesome, tried the recipe today.
omg.... i was given two giant live crabs and i had no idea what to do with them other than take them out for a walk.... wanted to pussy out and buy a box of chilli crab sauce mix..... lazy AF and kept psyching myself out that i would never do as good a job as a restaurant and ruining the two crabs. i however decided to stick it out and tried this recipe....
i do not usually comment, but GURL! this recipe is legit! hands down THE recipe for Singapore Chilli Crab, unadulterated. no BS. i have eaten 47 years of chilli crabs and this recipe to me is as momentous as the leaked KFC fried chicken formula. the way the flavours should have been.
the only thing i felt was a little unclear was the timing for frying the paste and such. the belachan or prawn paste has to be toasted over medium heat to a point when it feels a little dry and crumbly. the paste should also be really finely blended. the moment you pour in the blended mix, you have to EITHER keep moving the paste around at medium high heat to thoroughly cook the paste without burning (high stress cooking), OR fry everything at low medium heat and only medium high heat for last 5 mins to fully bring out the flavours (low stress cooking). i tried both methods and i prefer the low stress method because not only does the paste ingredients have time to mingle and mature, the paste would break down and allow the flavours to homogenate and fully temper. the low stress method took about 35mins until the paste noticeably darken but i feel that it is well worth the extra time.... i have since fried large batches of this sauce, up until just before the ketchup stage, portioned them out and frozen. whenever i want to cook, rejuvenate with more oil and some ketchup and you can use this with prawns, any kind of crab, lobsters, even pasta etc.
heartfelt thanks to MEATMEN for sharing the recipe..... i have always thought that these sort of cooking videos are meant for clicks and as long as the food looks good, nothing else matters. fake recipes for an audience that would eat out 95% of the time anyway, so why bother? i truly stand corrected by this recipe. it is THE authentic recipe and really much better than the sickly sweet ketchupy versions you get at supposedly famous crab restaurants. this recipe is mind-blowingly full bodied, balanced and complete. i can now enjoy this dish anytime at a third of restaurant prices and double the quality.

My Fav channel to go to for yummy food. Thank you, The Meatman!!
My family is vegetarian and im also allergic to crab 🦀😅so i used your chili 🌶️ crab sauce recipe but added vegetarian prawns instead! Still yummilicious! Love all your recipes as its versatile ! 👏 👏 👏

Best 👍

Awesome
Just discovered your channel. Good stuff. Question on one of the ingredients in this recipe. Candle nut is something I have used in the past. It seems this nut doesn't have any smell and not sure about the taste. But I noticed many recipes have candle nuts in it. Would be great if you can comment a bit on this candle nut.
tried it... and it was awesome! Thanks Meatmen!
+sanzo71 glad you enjoyed it!
Fantastic, could you do the same with a ginger and shallop mud crab
I really fell in love with this dish when I was staying in SG. The combination of tastes of chilli crab and mantaou was fantastic. The sweetness and peppery of chilli crab mixed with hot crispy mantou was awesome. Any way the thing that I really love was fried mantaou, it was a bit sweet, crispy outside and smooth inside. But now I am living in my hometown there does not have any packages of mantou in the stores. So do you have a recipe of mantou ? Coz I really love it.
Way better than those restaurants! ! U guys are awesome.
Do u hold any cooking class?? I would like to sign up if there is.
Tks
really nice video it looks soo mouthwatering! shhh why am I torturing myself to watch this at night... :(
thank so much add
Alas Chilli Crabs! Thanks @themeatmensg!
Tasteless just spicy
love black pepper crab
I like chili crab.
I made this recipe tonight.. it turned out super delicious, thanks a bunch! :D I'll definitely make it again. I used Dungeness crab since we don't often have mud crabs where I live (and Dungeness crab is extra-meaty). Yum yum!
+Jeanie Conner Awesome that you enjoyed it!!

I like black pepper crab best.
Sure Trung Le, we will have to research on that!
since you add fried mantou to this crab recipe can you make a video showing us how you make fried mantou PLEASE!
+Abby94 i think nowadays it is easier to just buy frozen mantou from grocery rather than making one from scratch
mintico snout where do you buy it
煮面汤
Abby94 grocery store
Is this really original style? Bcu i saw you put lemongrass and galangal
Wow! What camera are you using?
we use canon dslr for our videos with a 50mm or 35mm lense, any model will do
mmm
Is ginger an adequate replacement for galangal? Also, would thai shrimp paste be alright for the belachan requirements :o
farah qureshi ginger can be use as replacement for galangai, as for thai shrimp paste it looks pretty close, we got to go get it to give you an answer for that.
👍👍👍
Hello, which taocheo did you use for this? Sweet, spicy or salty?
Debbie Lim get the salty one
Where do you get, like, any of those ingredients?
TJP77 That depends on where you live. In most western countries, you can head down to any asian grocer.
Ok thats it where can i order ;D although im 5 years late
Never too late! You can always cook this yourself (: We have full recipe here for you: themeatmen.sg/singapore-chilli-crab/
@@themeatmensg Woww so cool cheers you the best

Can I get the belacan and tau cheo from giant or ntuc?
yes they have it.
Have you tried cooking salted egg crab
not yet, but sure we can do that soon
Which mantou packaging was it exactly ?
Hi there, unfortunately there isnt a specific brand that we will recommend because it pretty similar :)
candle nuts是什么?
What's the brand of blender u r using ?
not the same one in the video but works better www.lazada.sg/ihome-bullet-blender-21-pcs-deluxe-set-i-b21-11129165.html?ff=1&boost=1
Candle nuts... Never heard of them before lol
We called it as buah keras :)
How spicy is this? (BTW I really like spicy food I'm just asking out of curiosity)
Jason Nucker It looks very spicy but actually we would still say its on the mid level kind of spicy, more of sweet and spicy
+Jason Wilson if you REALLY are crazy for spiciness like my dad, you can always use what we call Chilli Padi, or whatever is spicier but try to use chillies that have a fruity flavour instead of pure spiciness. It does add a lot of flavour.
Yes, no duplication not even across the border. SG chilly crab certainly taste much better and up market.
May i know, why fry the belacan with dry pan, then add oil? why not fry with the heated oil?
frying in the dry pan is just to taste the belacan for the flavours to come out, fry it in oil alone might burn it.
i am totally a beginner, thanks for explaining
Do you own a restaurant?
xiaocurrypuff no we don't, we are just a home cooks!
How to do the sauce without the use/need of food processer
Infinite Flight Singapore by using a pastle to grind it :D that was what our ancestors did during the olden days
Isn't it too small to make the paste
MH Spotting take turn
what is taucheo is that same like soy been paste ???
Hi! taucheo is salted fermented soy beans, it is a little different
@@themeatmensgoh so it is salted, thank u for the info
If you can’t find it where you are. Miso can also be a substitute. Miso is however slightly sweeter and has a more ‘refined/subtle/smoother’ taste
where can i buy candlenuts from? is it macadamias ?
+Sam 90 you should be able to get them from Asian grocers depending on you area, if you in Singapore you can find them in the supermarkets. No they are not macadamias.
+theMEATMENsg I live in Melbourne, looked everywhere no luck at all. are you able to send me a link so i could buy them online. I cooked this using almonds. tasted amazing tho. thanks love your recipes.
+Sam 90 you can try this, www.herbies.com.au/shop/herbs-and-spices/spices/candle-nut-40g-for-culinary-use-only/
+theMEATMENsg thank you :)
What is taucheo? Can you write it in Chinese, please?
Thanks
+Anh Huynh salted bean paste or 豆酱
Hi guys! Just tried this recipe a couple of weeks back and it is way too spicy! I am used to spicy stuff since I lived in Singapore for like forever, but do u guys really eat it that spicy?
rainbowaika Hahaha we kind of do, but you can reduce the amount of chilies in the paste and add more ketchup.
theMEATMENsg Hahah u guys are brave! Good job on all the videos! I love them! When i tried making this recipe I literally just used 1 chilli paid with seeds, or i de-seed a lot of them. Sometimes, I just use sriracha sauce if i want to make it a little more spicy. Still tastes the same and soo good! I fed 15 norwegians with it :P Thanks for this!
Talking like a real cook! My mum always say the same thing...
Take out the chili padi.
That was the first thing I noticed. Too many chillies! No, it is not meant to be overly spicy. It is served at.Cantonese/ Chinese seafood restaurants known for milder food so the spice level isn’t excessive. The better restaurants do it with the right balance of fragrance, spice, heat, sweet, sour and savoury.
May i know which taucheo brand is that?
+koh kellie we used tiger brand
+koh kellie www.chuencheong.com/products/prodlist.aspx?CateID=50
+theMEATMENsg possible to omit taucheo ?
Sigh! We don't have crabs that big in New Zealand!
Dragonfire2014 yes web do caught them out on Waikanae beach nice and juicy
can do with lobsters
@@LinksRoyal they are a bit.... Dire.... 😆💵
Blue swimmer crabs works well too... just try to get the bigger ones so there’s more meat 😄
What happens if I use both oyster sauce and taucu (bean paste) OR I should choose only 1? Too many diff recipes on youtube for making SIN Chili Crab 😅 Some even use aromatic herbs like lime leaves and Indonesian bay leaves 🤔
I usually pick a recipe with the longest ingredients 🤣
Hahaha! You can follow our recipes and twirk some of them and put accordingly to your own preferences and taste bud! :)
@@themeatmensg 👍
Just because dungeness crab is so expensive here, around US$50 for about 3 lb size of crab, so I need to decide which recipe/ingredients to choose wisely aka taste good so I wont waste $50 😅
what is the music ?
Benji Jackson - Wont let this moment pass us by
How do you say "taucheo" in Chinese中文????
Taucheo should be 豆酱
I want to make this so bad, but I don't think I can find half the ingredients here in Australia :'( Guess I need to go back to Singapore soon. How does one make butter crab, nomnoms!
Leo Cho hahah we are thinking of doing a butter crab but maybe more of a salted egg yolk butter crab!
I will prefer French Loaf (尖頭麵包)to the 饅頭.

The quantity of chillies seem too high.
Hi! You can always adjust the quantity of chillies to your personal preference! Here in The Meatmen, we love our food spicy :)

There's so many chilies XD How spicy it is compare to curry or teokpokki :(
