i personally think it is about the 100 years war, between england and france more than about the crusaeds. because if it was about the crusades they wouldnt be using the term "knight".
and i also think it because of the "on and on war continues on", i mean, thats sounds like 100 year war (wich was 116 years long) more than crusades :P

I didn't got it somewhere , it's thought that crossed my mind on one other video where people were debating about silly things like which religion is bad and which isn't. There are no bad religions they are all made with a good intentions guided by desire to understand God. But that is impossible to do, at least not now when our souls/energy are/is trapped in this material world.
Added it to my favorites, I love the game, and I think even modern society could learn a lesson from this song.

What most people don't realize, is that all the bad things people are doing and saying in God's name, aren't the same things God wants us to do or say. Those people are misusing God's name. I like this song :) The person who wrote the lyrics also understands the difference between what people say and do and how God actually wants us to be.
The game is a fantastic learning tool about war, and one thing I learned from it, is war is just that much worse.
It was awesome with the oriental touch in battles against Eastern factions

The truth is that war leads to nothing, it has nothing to do with believing in a god.
The song is about how we are all humans, how we share the same things, the same planet, the same hopes and dreams and how religion destroys all of this by making us take sides, believing some of us have the truth and others do not, and vice versa.
This is why its said "war continues on" because for thousands of years, religious conflict in the world and in the middle east primarily are still present.

Religion alone by itself doesn't destroy anything, it's some people who do.
Those people running away from truth and they chose 'wars'.
People have freedom of choice and people have power of mind and conscience to make the right or wrong choices.
If u watched movie Kingdom of Heaven you can see that Balian and Patriarch Heraclius are both believers they just make different choices.

Medieval II Total War doesn't actually glorify war, it shows you the horrors of it.
It teaches you how the "knight in shining armor" was a bloody warlord. It shows you how there were no compassionate rulers who survived for long. It shows you how easy it is to fall into evil while ruling as you loot city after city so as to maintain your empire, cooly calculating that the money gained is worth more than the population raped and killed.
It shows you that you really aren't any better.
I know it's a long time but u forgot "exterminating" city's to have less trouble with them.

I lost mine while defending Constantinople from multiple jihads while playing Byzantium in Stainless Steel. Rest assured I showed no mercy while exterminating every single Seljuk, Fatimid & Mongol city later in the game.
Try to look up the term "total war" on Wikipedia. It describes:
"... a war in which a belligerent engages in the complete mobilization of fully available resources and population."
So it's more a case of commenting on the fact that all the resources you have at your disposal are mobilized towards war than a glorification of it.

"Night" will be more apt for the lyrics; It will convey that man's ultimate struggle is not with his fellow humans, but with an intangible concept of evil- here, 'Night'.
'Knight' will cheapen the song by attributing a human element to the object of hatred & I believe that it wasn't what Jeff had in mind.

The game is not necessarily all that pro-war, I mean, it does not really glorify it -that much-. What, with generals who can grow depressed by seeing all their friends die and others who lose their humanity fighting in the thick of battle and seeing so many people die.

It's easy (comparatively) if you use heavily armoured troops with artillery back-up- preferably German or Turkish.
And you have to be prepared to take losses- A 1:1 ratio is very very generous. However, I still prefer to slug it out in sieges.
But with Mongols? Bring it on! I've won heroic victories against multiple Mongol stacks in the open field!

Flyingtart u keep asking why it is talking about romans mostely its becouse rome used to own most of europe and all the meditaranian sea plus parts of africa ect. italy was possible the greatest country ever they conqered anything they put there eyes on the only reson they fell is becouse when one of there great leaders would die they would lose control of territory. but medival 2 toatal war is just as much about romans as any othere country so there is your awnser.
