- This is my method of pressing tobaccos that, to my tastes, need some smoothing out. This is not necessarily original, but a culmination of many techniques that seem to work. I borrowed from the best! đ
I have been experimenting with collecting my neighbor's dog "presents" he leaves in the front yard.
I let them dry out a bit on some newspapers on a desk in the garage and after a few days they are ready
for pressing. Once they come out I allow them to dry a bit more and then wrap them in parchment paper
and place the in mason jars to age a few years. After some age they smoke very much like Perique
not unlike Chenet's Cake. I have yet to venture over to my friends Dairy to try a black cow blend but
I hope to do so this Summer.

Iâve got a pasta press like that on order and canât wait to try pressing. I was gifted some homegrown raw (no casing) burley that I want to press after I figure out how to shred it. CZcams is my friend!

Paper shredders work wonders for a good ribbon cut

Nice video with some great ideas. I never knew why people used the leather trays until I saw that you can fold them to "pour" the leftovers! Will work better than my paper plate

I also use the noodle press to compress tobacco, so I was surprised that some people were using the same equipment.
I couldn't think of using Ziploc.
I will take it as a wonderful idea.

Great video Tom! I love the ziploc bag idea which probably also helps if you are adding a touch of flavoring (like rum), from making a sticky mess.

ThankYou Sir. I have a problem with loose tobacco coming in nonevacuum tins - It doesn't help just aging them, so I think, this is a solution that works. Thankyou again.

Hey this is Mike Pinney, I met you at the club meeting today at Tobacco Cabana. Nice tutorial. I use this method as well and I just put a couple of pieces of wax paper to cover the holes and had no liner and it slide right out after two weeks. Thanks for sharing and it was a great meeting today and canât wait to see when you post the video Also, I canât stop think about the Christmas Cheer that I sampled today, it was awesome. .

They make sandwich bags without the "ziploc" mechanism on top. It's just an open ended plastic baggie.

Great video Tom, I think I'll try this on some not up to par blends I have. Btw, Spark Plug is a awesome tobacco. I use a utility knife to shave it and smoke.
Itâs even better after a year of resting!
Nice video brother! I need to get me one of these. Would be cool if you could put this into the oven for a bit on whatever temp and stove it at the same time for a an hour or somethin. If you wet the tobacco with some distilled water, and then press it, would it turn into more of a plug than a cake, even if it were cut tobacco already? âïžđ„đš
Not reallyâŠplugs are whole leaf tobaccos. I fear that wetting it would just make it a hotter smoke.
@@PipesTobaccoWhiskey oh ok. I thought maybe wetting would help it stick together better like a flake if you slice it and then let it dry a bit before smoking. Just curious. I've only made a few cakes in my life but I don't have my contraption anymore with me. It's back at my family's house in PA sadly.

New subscriber and a young pipe enjoyer. Excited to see the results in 2 weeks. I would like to ask for your advice, and from others. I have only been smoking pipes for a few years, which I naturally gravitated towards over cigars, I still have trouble with spit control. It builds up at the mouth and down the stem of my pipe. I can only hold my pipe in my mouth for a few seconds without the spit becoming an issue and discomfort. Any tips? Thanks and love the informative channel. Keep up the great work!
I also am a type of âwetâ smoker and for me I find three things help. 1) Slow down my cadence and âsipâ more than take large draws. This helps to keep the bowl cooler and combustion of tobacco slower 2) make sure that my tobaccos are on the dry side. Aromatics also tend to be âwetterâ than other blends such as Englishes, so I let my tobacco set out a bit (sometimes hours) before I smoke it. 3) I will drink water (or other beverage) as I smoke. It helps keep my mouth cooler and seems to keep saliva at bay. Also helps clean my palate.
These things seem to help me. 1 and 2 are important. 3 may be psychological. Hope this helps. Cheers

For pressung could you use a calk gun? And a tin can
HmmmâŠnever thought of that. The trick would be to find a canister the right size so you could apply the pressure evenly to the tobacco and also would have to consider how you would remove the tobacco when finished.
Would it work as well with non-aromatics and aromatics alike?
Not sure you will see any difference with arosâŠI think it would depend on how loaded with casings and toppings it is. Non-aros for sure!

i just got into pipes, i just want to ask what is the point of pressing store bought tobacco?
For me itâs 2 reasonsâŠhelps the the different tobaccos meld together as one (oils, etc) and it artificial gives an impression of aging.

@@PipesTobaccoWhiskey yes, whole dried leaf, i was thinking of rehydrating them with whisky and pressing them, i just have no idea if that will work.
It will be VERY strong if you use only whiskey. I would consider rehydrating with distilled water first, then spraying a small amount of whiskey when pressingâŠ
It's really hard to see what's in your hands because the camera is so far back.

I was really interested. I wanted to see the plug you had already made and in general the camera was so far back I found myself wishing it were close up and I could see better.
